Positive Balance Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

I never considered myself athletic, but I've always been interested in boxing and BJJ since college but never did it because I didn't think I was “fit or able to keep up”. And it's funny because I had this place bookmarked on my maps for years before finally attending my first class. It wasn't until A friend recommended it, and I thought, “yeah I should join! I want to learn to protect myself!!”
It turned out to be the best decision I've made! It was beyond learning about protecting myself but challenging my mind and body! So While other places may set a high bar for positivity, this place has no bar—they are simply the best!

They created the best environment! it feels like a family atmosphere where they genuinely care about your well-being and safety. They create a supportive environment where everyone is treated like family.

If you're hesitant, let me assure you that stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new here is worth it. Jui Jitsu does take time to grasp, but the patience and payoff are incredible! This place meets you where you are and celebrates all your wins big or small. I wish I had started sooner and once you start you will think the same!!

We recently started training at Positive Balance after training elsewhere for many years. Dylan and Jim have been tremendous coaches for Jacob and I (Jacob trains way more than I do). The team is great! Everyone has been so welcoming and it feels like a big family! There’s definitely a lot of talented athletes in the room every day! The name is perfect as there is a positive vibe no matter your belt or experience level. I am very appreciative of the coaches and teammates! If you live in Tallahassee or the surrounding area and want to start training you should absolutely come check us out! You won’t regret it!

Started training here briefly over the summer and now coming back full time to train during the school year. I’m happy to say that I’ve enjoyed every second of my time here and can see myself staying at Positive Balance for a long period of time. Overall, this place provides a great environment for sparing and learning, and would definitely recommend as one of the better Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies in Tallahassee for its affordable pricing and quality teachings.

Brought my girlfriends children in for a trial class tonight and was impressed. I train Jiu Jitsu myself and have to say they have one of the best children's programs I have seen. They had two purple belts a white belt AND two black belts instructing. Plenty of attention available for all the children.

Dylan and Doc are amazing humans and great Jiu jitsu practitioners and professors. This is where you should train if you’re in the area.

My 5 yo grandson and I have been training for over 18 months at Positive Balance Jiu Jitsu, and we've not only learned a great deal about Jiu Jitsu, but consider ourselves as part of the family atmosphere created by Dylan, Jim and Maria. The children's classes are excellent, where the patience and encouragement towards children from 3 to early teens is stellar. Also, the adults classes are focused, engaging, and even fun to anyone (man/woman, ages from 16 to 80) seeking to learn a serious combat sport. Cannot recommend Positive Balance enough to those seeking a rewarding martial arts journey and/or establishing a firm foundation of character for their children in their early years.

I was in town for a wedding and Dylan and team were more that accommodating to drop ins. They let me join their lunch class and post roll. Great culture they have in their gym. Awesome spring loaded floors too! Lots of color variability for all skill levels to get quality rolls in.

They care about all their students and make sure that everyone is in a great environment. As a beginner in Brazilian jiu jitsu, these two instructors have helped paved the way in my grappling. They are patient, knowledgeable, and supportive through every step. I started training Brazilian jiu jitsu very recently and I must say that the instructors here are top of the class; very patient and informative. They exhibit excellence in every class they teach. The facility is clean every single time I train and the people all have positive vibe. I am so glad Tallahassee has an academy that everyone can come together in harmony and fun.

Wonderful family run establishment for 3 year olds all the way up to adults. Come learn the most useful martial art for self-defense, strength, and exercise! Our family members (16, 20, and 45yo) are having a great time and loving it.

Great team with incredible coaches! All of their coaches are active competitors with the most up to date techniques. The student to teacher ratio is the best part. Every class I get detailed personal instruction and am not just another number.

BJJ brown belt started training in 2008 at Clearwater Gracie Barra under Eduardo De Lima. I moved to Tallahassee for school and started searching for a new gym. I have trained at every BJJ gym in Tallahassee searching for the best one for me. Positive Balance is the one I chose it has the best instruction along with the best training partners around. The people are very friendly and inviting to all walks of life. This is a great place for all BJJ practitioners whether you are a white belt just starting or a black belt looking for some good rolls. Dylan is a great instructor with competitive experience at the highest level. I highly recommend this gym for Adults and children you will not be disappointed.
