For a mom and pop place that is a small place the food and service is quite amazing. We live about 2 miles away in Timber Pines and did not know this place existed. The portions were large. My salad had more than the standard iceberg lettuce and was quite tasty. I have a fairly good appetite but had to share my fries and still had fries left over.

The server and cook were very efficient and we had our food within 10 minutes or less. It even has a little atmosphere with around 100 license plates from the last 75 years or so and an old gas pump trying to emulate a turnpike stop. It even had a tiny lunch counter. The cook even checked in with us on her food. What a nice change of pace on our ordinary restaurant route.

I LOVE the food! The chicken and biscuits are fantastic. The biscuits alone are worth ordering. The banana foster pancakes had me stealing my husband food. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich though is my favorite. Best chicken sandwich I've ever had.

The best sandwiches and the best pancakes (not pictured since we didn't get any this time) in the area. We've been coming here since they opened and we have yet to be disappointed with anything we have ordered. We've done dine in and take out, both. We cannot recommend Turnpikes enough. Amazing food and generous portions for a fair price.

Amazing service. You definitely get your money’s worth here. The portion size and the quality of the food is phenomenal! Not to mention the super quick and friendly service. This was my second time coming here and both times were a very pleasant experience. Will definitely be a continuing customer :)

Few of my friends have been here in the past year and talked about how great this restaurant is,so I had to try it.First time here today for lunch with my family. Started with fried pickle appetizer. My wife and I had the Ruben and my son had a philly cheese steak on a hoagie and daughter had a BLT ,And my Mom with two eggs and bacon. They all luv'd the food .Portions were big and had to take food home. Think the person serving was Amber and she was great always helping us as need -like extra dressing and napkins, she also refilled our drinks. I also has a strawberry sangria, wife had a Strawberry Mule drink. See attached pictures. I'll be back 👍👍*Note my Ruben has additional meat added.

Turnpike’s Rest Stop, all I can say is MAN what a sandwich!!
Now if you know anything about me you know I got the Dagwood Whole sandwich. At just under $19.00 it is well worth it. There is no way you can finish this monster of a sandwich in only one sitting, actually don’t even try. As you turn the plate around you’ll find a more than generous helping of made in house chips.

Yes they have smaller sandwiches and yes they have more reasonable options. You only live once, I say go for it this time! On your second visit I suggest get a smaller sandwich choice so you can have room for one of their wonderful desserts. I have to say you will find yourself going back again and again. I ask you how can you not? Great food, great dessert, casual atmosphere and a fantastic wait staff. Whats not too love about the Turnpike’s Rest Stop

I heard about this place through the Facebook Group 'Save Hernando County Restaurants', and have heard nothing but great things about them. The staff was friendly and the food came out super fast and fresh. We ordered the Pretzel bites, bone-in Wings and a Chicken Parm sandwich. The pretzels looked like they were overcooked, but they were absolutely perfect! My wings were delicious, and full of meat. There was hardly any fat or gristle to them, which is a nice change. My only gripe I would say, was that I wish they were a little more crispy/ had more breading. (it was the craving I had). My boyfriend loved the Sandwich. He wishes there was more sauce, but stated it was his favorite Chicken Parm Sandwich so far. The portion sizes were huge, the prices were decent and cheap compared to what you get. We will absolutely be going back!!!!

If you have not been here then you are missing out! The food is phenomenal and the service is even better. This is a true mom and pop restaurant that just makes truly great food. I always describe it as “how I would make it at home” style. Everything is homemade (even the dressings/sauces!) and you can taste the quality and care that they put into each item. If you can take advantage of the weekly specials then it’s really a steal, but even menu prices are extremely fair for what you get. Also, you HAVE to try the unique cakes that they have. There always seems to be a new flavor. I cannot rave about this place enough. It’s a real local eatery that everybody has to visit.

Delicious food, very generous portions and friendly service. Tina was our server and she was very informative and nice! We look forward to going back for breakfast. The cheeseburger was amazing and the Reuben was HUGE! You will need a doggie bag lol.

Cute little place to eat breakfast/lunch. Nicely decorated in a fun and modern design. Garage - travel themed. No detail was missed. Food was generous and delicious. I had hash browns(perfectly crunchy on top), 2 scrambled eggs, 2 bacon and a grilled biscuit(surprisingly delicious). My husband had the Reuben sandwich(huge) on rye with fries(crunchy and really good). Their sweet tea was a raspberry tea and it was good. They have a great menu to choose from. Also have drink specials like the Plant City Sangria. Everyone was super attentive, happy and nice. Definitely will go back. Other people's food around us looked really good too. Especially their cheeseburger. Overheard two patrons telling the waitress that they drove down from Ocala to eat there. The one said it was her second visit. Very clean. Tables fairly close together because it's a small place.

So I started to hear about this place through facebook and decided to give it a try. I must say I like the inside decor but let's get down to the food. I've seen so many pictures on social media that didn't compare to when the food came out my family and I where overwhelmed at how big the portions of food are. After about 20 minutes or so of eating I was seriously stuffed!
I highly recommend you give this place a try! The staff was friendly and the place was very clean.
One thing though expect to have leftovers.
My family and I will definitely be back!!!

As far as locally owned joints go, this one is doing thing right. The service is great, the atmosphere is cool, the food is excellent, and the portions are HUGE! Turnpike's is serving up some of your traditionally favorite sandwiches, sides, burgers, salads, and breakfast all day, but each dish looks like it has been supersized! We ordered the Pretzel Bites to start. For our meal, I had the Chicken and Pastrami Melt, and my wife ordered the Philly, both with their house made chips and a side of ranch. So let's start with the pretzels, they were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, I think that they may fry them instead of baking, or maybe they do both! They came served with stone ground mustard, and cheese sauce. The chicken on my sandwich was beautifully grilled, and then topped with fresh sliced pastrami, melted cheese, jalapenos, and then drizzled with spicy mayo, did I mention it was as big as my arm! My wife's Philly was everything you would expect, flavorful thin sliced ribeye with peppers and onions, topped with melted provolone! Their house made chips remind me of the crispy ribbon fries you get at a fair or carnival, dip them in ranch or ketchup to your taste and you'll never want a bagged potato chip again! Now this place also serves up some tasty desserts, but if you plan on eating a full meal and still having room for dessert, then you better skip every meal before you come, or share your entree. Unfortunately we didn't do either and left too full to even try. Oh well, it just gives us a reason to go back.
