Forsyth County Building Inspector

I'm just a homeowner working on a major reno project. Too much red tape in permitting, people are great though, but wanted to chime in and agree with Brandon that the inspection team is good to work with. They don't let anything slide and nobody has memorized the entirety of current codes, so if you're doing something weird, be ready with the rules you're relying on for a pass, but they all seem to be quite reasonable and more important helpful in finding out in advance how not to screw up. I'm about to have to make a change on my project that'll cost me $1k+ for a code requirement, but I found out before it'll be $2k, and I think that's great. Would I rather not spend $1k? Absolutely. Is the rule requiring the change dumb to me? Yep, it is, but those are the rules these guys are required to get people to follow, whether they seem worthwhile or not. I do know I wish the prior homeowners in my house had followed more rules, because they cost me a lot of money during this reno. These folks are trying to keep that from happening to other homeowners and keep us safe. They also answer my questions so I can try to save money avoiding mistakes. That's 5* to me.

Forsyth County paperwork may not be so simple, but the people are awesome. They are always friendly, and want you to have what you need from them. They clearly relay their requirements and are patient to let you get everything in order.

Inspectors are bad. They don’t tell all the issues up front. They will come say one item failed then come 2nd time say something else is failed where they could point out these at first go around. And they are not clear.

there's has no sense of customer service no regards to do business, staff has no ability to keep their opinions silent I've never delt with such low IQ individual I know the county has better to offer come on it's 2019 in America

Horrible service, one moment they tell you one thing then you go do inspections it's something else. They don't specify anything about 3rd party inspections and makes you guess what you have to do. Next time you want to do anything that requires a permit here, my recommendation is, don't.
