This is one of my two favorite places to visit. A Michigan recreation pass is required for use. Large pines, benches along the way, a nice trail. You can make it a 2 mile walk by walking the loop twice. We saw a lot of bear sign with dead stumps clawed out and tracks, pileated woodpecker marks, and a bobcat or cougar kill right on the trail! A beautiful place. There are no toilets or picnic tables. The brown sign is hard to see from the road (F-97). The turn off is almost directly across from 603 rd. You'll drive along a small dirt road to get to it.

Nice short hike, there is a self guided hick explaining what you are seeing but some of the explanations are missing I believe you can find it online. Some of the trees are over 275 years old, over dnr testing

Perfect little 1.5 mile lollipop trail. Beautiful woods, plenty of wildlife. Perfect for short stroll or run. You can do Laps around the loop to extend the mileage.

Loved this short trail. It is 1.5 miles long, and is shaped like a balloon, with a trail that runs from the parking lot to a loop. Along the way are numbers posted with details about the forest. It is mostly pine - red and white - with some deciduous as well, and is reached by going down a 1/2 mile dirt road. The trail is easy to follow and pretty flat. I would recommend a mosquito net for your head, as it was very buggy on the hot, dry day I went visited.

Beautiful trail through old growth forest, with markers and information along the way. My grandkids (even the five year old), dog and I really enjoyed our walk. Park pass is required.

Great place to introduce younger kids to hiking. Not a lot of bugs or hills. Quick hike.

Beautiful forest. Rarely anyone ever there. Some massive red pines within the forest, the likes of which you won't find anywhere else in the LP. There is an aggressive pair of Cooper's hawks nesting within the forest as of right now (05/08/2021). The female followed me for some ways giving out alarm calls until the male came and made a few swoops at me! It took the hat off my head which I left there and made a run for my car lol!

Interesting trail. Interesting pine forest where the other trees haven't been thinned out like many of the red pine groves around these parts.

While not nearly as well-visited as the Hartwick white pines, the Roscommon reds (and whites) are just as glorious a treasure of the forests of Michigan of old. A short, level walking trail leads into the heart of the pines, marked in places with information posts and benches.

Beautiful area and nice trail through the pines. No crowds at all. We were there for a couple hours and didn't see another person.

Seeing trees that are 200 years old is inspiring.
