Wow! What an amazing dentist!! I don't particularly love dentist appointments—not only because of the standard mouth discomfort, but the fear of not knowing whether I'm going to get upcharged for unnecessary treatments and the like.

Doctors Gruntz's practice is different.

Both my wife and I have had appointments for annual cleanings/checkups and we both loved how honest and transparent Dr. Gruntz was. Coming from another dentist who had told me that I needed to spend thousands of dollars to "fix" a tooth that was not causing any issues, I was very worried about whether that would be needed. Dr. Gruntz was very honest and said he didn't think that the other dentist office was right, and that he didn't think their recommendation was necessary. He gave me an honest assessment of some possible areas to keep an eye on and didn't try to scare me into paying a lot of money for additional procedures. Even told me that he could recommend third party providers for additional treatment (if I thought it needed) who they did not get referral fees from! What a concept: honesty, transparency, and just being generally friendly and kind.

Drs. Gruntz will be my dentists for as long as I am in the DMV area—hands down. Oh, and their prices are very affordable, too. Around $150~ for a standard checkup (without x-rays).

I have had several dentists and orthodontists during the last 10-15 years due to relocating, and Dr. Gruntz is hands down the best I have been to. He is so thorough, explains everything that he is doing and WHY he is doing it, and does not upsell you on any services like I have seen other dentists do.

In layman’s terms: he’s real with you and I trust him.

I recently had a dental emergency and he made my teeth look better than they ever have, and again did not try to “upsell” me into additional services which he easily could have done.

The absolute best dentists in the DMV! Great bedside manner, clear guidance, and they don't push unnecessary procedures. They also have flexible scheduling. So flexible they cleaned my husband's teeth and then told him afterward that he was a day early. They also accommodated us with our newborn. THANK YOU!

FROM BILL ROTE. Couldn't chew on one side and pain interrupted sleep. Other medical problems kept me from seeing Dr. Gruntz sooner. Saw Dr. Gruntz and Dr. Rick yesterday morning - I thought it was impossiple for anyone to fix. After treatment, ate lunch, went to gym, ate full dinner, had a great sleep, and ate breakfast. Chewed on both sides. ZERO PAIN and NO COMPLICATIONS. Thanks so much!!!!!! I have been going to Dr Gruntz for over 20 years - he has fixed so many of my prolems and is the reason I can enjoy a meal. Dr. Gruntz and Dr. Rick have my highest recommendation.

The absolute best dentist I've ever had. They are honest about their work, talented, friendly, and don't try to sell you unnecessary nonsense.

I've been going to Dr. Gruntz (Senior and Junior!) for over five years. They are a true (and rare) example of dentists who genuinely care for their patients. They are not trying to make money off of you like many DC-area dentists are. I used to live within walking distance and then moved 35 minutes away and still make the trip because they are that good!

My dental problems are quite challenging. Both Drs. Gruntz are amazing, and have stabilized my dental condition when others (including a highly regarded, K Street periodontist) did nothing for me except send me bills totaling several thousand dollars. These guys do care about their patients and results. They discuss alternative treatments, and won't see you as just another wallet.

I have been visiting Dr. Gruntz's office for a year now and I am very pleased with the practice! They are fair and honest about the work you need, and Dr. Gruntz is very friendly and cares deeply about making sure his patients are satisfied. At one point, I had to make a last-minute appointment and they saw me the next day. Overall, I'm very pleased with the office and would highly recommend this dentist to anyone in the area.

I just had the best dentist experience of my life! Dr. Richard (son) was so kind, and honestly fun to talk to as I got my cleaning. I am new to the area and he made me feel so comfortable and taken care of! Definitely choose them as your dental providers.

A family-run dental practice that truly cares about its patients. Also unique how the dentists themselves will do all the cleaning - not a hygienist. Really good service!

I literally cannot speak highly enough about this dentist office. I have gotten my teeth done by Richard Gruntz III two times now and each time has been incredibly comfortable, pleasant, and informative. He makes sure to give honest opinions about what needs to be done for your teeth now vs. what may need to happen in the future but isn’t worth worrying about yet. He doesn’t try to get you to pay for extra, unnecessary procedures or use scare tactics, and he’s a genuinely pleasant guy with an impressive memory. Genuinely gets to know you as a person. Highly recommend!

I've been going to this office since I moved to the DC area and I've been nothing but pleased. They do great work and are honest in their opinions of what you need and what you don't in regards to your dental care. Going to dental appointments has always made me nervous in the past but visiting their office has been a completely different experience. They are very friendly and put you at ease. Also, Richard and his son (also Richard) are great to talk to!

I have been going to Dr. Gruntz since 2015 and have had nothing but great experiences. I usually see the dad but I have seen the son before too - both of them are very personable, respectful, kind, and accommodating. Jill at the front desk is also very kind, helpful and its always been very easy to schedule. I cant say enough good things about this place - you wont be afraid of this dentist! They make you feel like a friend :)

Both Dad Gruntz and Son Gruntz are awesome dentists! My first implant and crown are still great after 5 years. They suggested cosmetic orthodontics on my lower front teeth to improve my smile. I am so amazed at how easy it was, how good my teeth look, and especially how much more confidence I have when I smile! I also ended up with a much healthier mouth. I love how they helped me understand their processes and how they took such care of me!

I wrote the next paragraph over a year ago and wanted to write a review again. I have honestly never met a medical professional quite like Dr. Rick. I just got a new orthodontia device and he and his dad were both so extraordinarily helpful through the entire process. I moved out of the crystal city area and will always trek back to keep this dentist. I'm so glad I found a dentist for life - they both really are just so incredible!!! So compassionate and friendly.

I can't review these people strongly enough. I was terrified of going to the dentist because I just knew I'd get expensive bad news... but Dr. Rick (the son) was incredibly nice and patient. He's such a cool guy and did great work on my teeth. The elder Dr. Gruntz is very nice as well. They're super helpful with insurance and make the experience pleasant overall - quite a feat for a dental practice! I actually look forward to seeing them. Even once I move away from Crystal City, I will trek back to come see them for my dental work. I seriously can't review them strongly enough. They're awesome! I'm so glad I found a dentist I like and trust!!!!!!!

I second the person who said Dr. Gruntz is the best dentist in the whole world. He makes you feel special, explains his procedures clearly so you know exactly what will be done. He's extremely personable, as is his son who recently joined him after graduation from dental school. Dr. Gruntz keeps up to date on new technology. His prices are reasonable. He's a very generous, fair and caring person, and I know he has given his time and expertise to people in pain--and in need. I trust him totally. My husband and I have been his patients for about 8 - 10 years. His staff is also warm, friendly and efficient. It's actually pretty nice to go to our dental appointments.

Dr. Gruntz has been my dentist since 1993. From my first visit, he and his staff have made me feel extremely comfortable and important. Even with procedures other than standard cleanings, I have always received the best service. Never once have I considered changing to another dentist or practice, even though I have moved to Maryland. If it isn't broken, don't fix it! I highly recommend Dr. Gruntz to anyone searching for a dentist in the VA/DC/MD area, if you want quality/personable dental service.

I would give more than 5 stars if I could. Awesome Father & Son team. I had the “Father” and my daughter had the “Son”. If you are looking for a professional dentist who is excellent, knowledgeable, patient, understanding, caring, and explains everything in detail, you are at the right place. Both dentists are excellent. I used to be very nervous seeing a dentist……not anymore. The atmosphere is very friendly and cozy. The office is organized, so no time wasted. My dentist fear has been cured, all my teeth are now in excellent shape, and I look forward to my next visit. This place gets 10 stars!!
