I love this place. Amazing quality and great price for the quality that you get. The spider rolls and the salmon lover are amazing, but I’ll definitely be coming back to try more of their stuff.

The sashimi here is among the best I have ever had. The staff is quick and knowledgeable and very friendly. They have a semi-traditional "tatami" room that seats around 6 comfortably with a dugout for stretching your legs. Make reservations early as they fill up fast.

Creat restaurant. Creat sashimi and sushi, fish was super fresh. Melted in my mouth . And chef’s special was amazing . Taste like crunchy and yammy. Also good was delicious . New owner and staff very friendly. Everything was excellent 👍👍👍 I will come back

Since COVID, I hadn't visited nor gotten delivery from here, but last week I ordered a delivery and was blown away by the incredible quality of every dish. The Tempura was truly superb, and the Salmon Teriyaki was perfection itself (including being perfectly cooked). Bravo! I can't wait to get more.

Wow... Ordered food from them for the first time on Uber Eats, and the food is just incredible! The plating, even though it’s just a takeout, looks amazing and the food is so fresh and delicious. So glad to have them serving even during Covid-times. Thank you!! ☺

A tiny sushi restaurant like you find in every neighborhood in Tokyo. No frills, just great sushi.

Great little sushi place. It's a hidden gem. Ever since I stumbled upon this place, it has been my go to sushi joint. I've eaten sushi all over the bay area. Only a handful of those I would rate it 5 stars. This is one of them in that area. If you are into just rolls like 95% of the people then everywhere is about the same. But if you enjoy nigiri, sashimi and traditional Japanese food then don't pass up on this place.

They made sure my rolls were gluten free ( California and crazy horse), and gave me gluten free tamari soy sauce. Delicious.

Sugata changed owners years ago and I stopped going. Recently I've given it a couple tries and it's been great. The sugata bento is a great deal for $33. There's enough to feed two people. The nigiri with the bento excellent as was the dragon roll and california roll. I'm looking forward to going back.

Easily the best sushi in East Bay and beats out so many sushi spots in SF. I'll break it down between food, ambiance, and service.

FOOD - For me, a tell-tale sign of a sushi restaurant with good food is the preparation that goes into every ingredient, and especially into the little things all the way down to the grains of rice. Yes, the rice! I have been to too many "high quality" and "high end" sushi restaurants that don't properly prepare their rice. At these other places, the rice in my nigiri is often cold, dry, or simply doesn't have the right balance of vinegar, sugar, salt, etc. Sugata truly knows how to prep their ingredients and considering the care that goes into the rice, you can imagine the effort that goes into preparing their proteins.

AMBIANCE - This restaurant is cozy. It's the perfect spot for a relaxed meal and they've set it up well. There's space for 4 people at the bar, where you'd be sitting right next to the sushi chefs. I'd recommend sitting at the bar if you get a chance--it's so much fun since the chefs usually hand us random items that they've prepped (on the house!). The tables and décor throughout the rest of the space has a modern feel and they've curated a vibe that is relaxed and trendy.

SERVICE - Friendly staff, quick service. They're always looking to accommodate our needs. They'll give us hot towels for our hands right after we sit down and get us the check right when we're ready. Perfection.

Everything here is very fresh and bursting with flavor. The main chef definitely takes pride in his work. Nothing short of exceptional.

I almost cried when we opened the bag and ate this beautiful, excellent meal. Hard to believe the quality at Sugata has gone up, but it has. Thank you so much for your efforts! Fine dining is alive and well at Sugata. Best meal we've eaten in three months.

Favorite sushi in Albany hands down!

One of the best sushi restaurants in the Berkeley area. Only complaint is that I'm not a big fan of the ikura; I think the preparation is different than usual restaurants.

One of my favorite local Japanese spots. The place is so warm and friendly. If you sit at the bar the old school Japanese Sushi chefs will entertain you with stories.

They have an excellent selection of standard Japanese fair, but also some interesting veggie rolls that you might not find elsewhere.
