Tzunun Restaurant

Was at John Muir and stopped here on a whim with the spouse. Had no idea such a great place in this strip mall. Food was awesome, servers were nice and attentive. If we're ever in the area again I'd stop by.

Came here for lunch with the family. I recommend coming early as there is limited parking. There’s indoor and outdoor seating as well as at the bar. If outdoors, you can watch sports on the big screen. We ordered an assortment of appetizers, entrées, and deserts to share. (It’s nice to treat the family once in a while. 😍)

Margarita was delicious and the kids loved their strawberry lemonades.

I give props to our server, he kept dishes cleared as we ate knowing we were eating family style and not individual meals.

To start: Guacamole with tostados. Fresh made guacamole! Great with the rest of the meal too. Beef empanadas were hearty and the fried squid and octopus were tender and delicious. The oysters were so fresh and tasty! The sauce it came with was a nice savory pairing.

Entrées: The crab taquitos were fresh and subtle in flavor. We really enjoyed the Arroz La Tumbada with its nice kick of heat, full flavors, and assortment of seafood. The Chicano Burger and Fried Chicken Sandwich really had the best punch of mouth watering flavors.

Dessert: Strawberry and chocolate gelato was amazing! Flan was pretty good and the Trés Leches cake was hearty and delicious. I wasn’t expecting the sauce or reduction that came with the churros. It had a hint of alcohol to the chocolate and raised the churros to another level.

Over all, everything was delicious.

Great atmosphere but what really stands out is the food. Bold flavors, interesting dishes.

I really liked the location, the restaurant atmosphere, as well as the outdoor seating. I loved the music they were playing, but what I really enjoyed was the food. My friend ordered the Surf & Turf. Their presentation was outstanding. My friend gave me a bite and the steak was tender and super flavorful. Overall, the dish was delicious.

Pleasant Hill, CA. Tzunun exploded on the dining scene in 2022 and quickly became a foodie destination in Northern California for its vibrant cocktails and visionary dishes inspired by the less-well known regions of Mexico. Its young chef and owner, Jesus Wence, focuses on sustainability and modern Mexican cuisine. His family owns the popular Wence’s restaurant and they hail from the Mexican state of Michoacan.

I sat on the rustic covered deck outside which still felt like an upscale space. Service was flawless, Angel and his team were all professional and genuinely friendly.

The wild mushroom tacos were perfectly seasoned, deftly put together so each ingredient shined: the thick, soft house made blue corn tortilla had melted mild cheese on it so the moist mushrooms didn’t make it fall apart, and the julienned deep fried crispy leeks added a touch of salt and oniony flavor. I could eat those every day.

Oh, the blue corn is gluten-free non-GMO heirloom corn imported from farmers in Mexico whose families have farmed for generations.

I also tried the Mexican street corn ribs and the house made potato chips (they were out of yucca chips) with organic salsa roja. I’d have to say I like my Mexican street corn homemade because I shamelessly slather on more mayonnaise and Tajin. Since you have to eat these with your hands you might not want to order these on a date. But this is a family restaurant (fur babies and children enjoyed the deck with their loved ones today) and eating with one’s hands is a delight for the young at heart. The corn ribs had wonderful flavor. The potato chips were generous in portion but not salted so the salsa roja came to the rescue. It was very good.

You can confidently bring your foodie friends to Tzunun for a fresh culinary adventure. Highly recommended.

All pros, no cons. Tzunun is a great place to wear a collared shirt out to dinner, or go have a casual bite and drink. Their bartenders and cooks know what they're doing and the serving staff provide wonderful service.

Small menu, but enough variety for a large party to all have a different experience.

When you go, I recommend coming hungry and trying multiple items!

Service was very good. I recommend the paella. Parking lot is ample and easy to get a tablet as long as you arrive before 6pm.

Loved every minute of the experience. Kinda loud, but it’s because it’s a small place. Tacos were so good!!! Will become a regular.

Still is such a wonderful place to be. We experienced the patio, my goodness, it’s so pretty.

Tried this spot for dinner with friends. It was absolutely delicious! I had the mushroom tacos and they were fantastic. My partner had the mole it was rich and super flavorful. The service was as impeccable as well. We will be back for sure.

Had the ceviche, mushroom tacos, mezcal margarita, and so much more. Everything was incredible. Enjoyed sitting outside too. The patio was great.

I got the surf and turf. Loved the skirt steak and the crab chili relleno. The sauce was super delicious. My Lady had the taquitos Dorado and loved them.

Delicious unique Mexican food. The flavors and quality of food will have you leaving your plate clean.

One word - delicious! From the drinks to the food, everything was great. Presentation was also on point and so was the service, which is hard to come by these days. You need to try this place out if you haven’t done so already!

I stopped in here after my appointment. Let's just say that they must have found a sweet spot for their oysters TODAY! First time here and I enjoyed a Hibiscus Mojito and a couple of the $2 Happy Hour Oysters and they were absolutely delicious. So fresh! Served with pickled onion and sauce. It tastes like a Banh Mi without the bread. I will definitely come back to taste more of the menu.

I shot a wedding reception here last week. The rib eye was out of this world! Loved the little back patio balcony space. Wait staff was pleasant and accommodating.

Overall this place is great. Love the bar area. Ambiance is perfect. Not too loud, not too quiet.

Service was outstanding. They gave us new plates and silverware after each plate.

Delicious food and great cocktails ~ including a nice variety of wine. Artisan-type food.
This is a place to go to if quality and freshness of food/ingredients are your priority.

The food and drinks were excellent! The portions were generous, and the waitress was very accommodating. I had the mussels and enjoyed the left over broth I took home with toast in the morning. Then, I had the ceviche which was a beautiful plate of mixed seafood accented by sliced watermelon radish and various other veggies. There was so much food! Also, the strawberry margaritas were fresh and tasty. For dessert we had flan which was a perfect bite with the sliced strawberry on top and dolop of whipped cream.

This place is a great, higher-end Mexican food restaurant. They’ve got a great menu with plenty of variety.

The service is a bit slow, but very friendly.

Food was delicious. We loved the queso with chorizo appetizer.

Their tacos were yum!

Would for sure go back. Especially for the queso dip. 🤤

Gerardo was amazing! He took the time to share the specials with us, dazzled us with a drink display (Tulum Nights). The food and drinks were delicious and the atmosphere is top notch. Would come back again and again for special occasions. They also offer happy hour.
