Tranquility and Culture Unite: Tongva Park

One of my favorite Parks in LA. Near the Metro Expo Line, Santa Monica Pier, and the beach. It's a well designed modern park with nice water features and some great views of the Pacific. Great place to relax and lots of activities for kids. There is a playground, water to wade through and a splash fountain in the summer. Lots of benches and some picnic tables. The park is a model for low water use plants and all the water is reclaimed, cleaned drain water.

Tongva Park, nestled in the heart of Santa Monica, California, offers a serene and culturally rich experience that is sure to captivate visitors. This beautifully designed urban oasis effortlessly combines the natural beauty of its surroundings with a deep appreciation for the history and heritage of the Tongva people.

Geographically, Tongva Park benefits from its prime location near the Pacific Ocean, providing stunning views of the coastline and allowing cool ocean breezes to permeate the park. Its meticulously landscaped gardens, lush green spaces, and tranquil water features create a sense of peace and tranquility amidst the bustling city.

Steeped in history, this park pays homage to the traditional land of the Tongva people, who have inhabited the area for thousands of years. Enrich your visit by exploring the park's interpretive signage, sculptures, and artwork, which beautifully highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Tongva tribe.

Visitors can wander along the meandering pathways, discover hidden nooks, or relax on the grassy lawns, all while taking in the breathtaking views of the park's unique geometric structures and native plant installations.

Children can let their imaginations run wild at the imaginative playgrounds, adorned with whimsical sculptures and interactive elements that encourage creativity and play.

With its well-maintained facilities, serene environment, and historical significance, Tongva Park is an absolute treasure. Whether you're seeking relaxation, education, or simply a moment of respite, this park invites you to embrace the beauty of nature while honoring the spiritual legacy of the Tongva people. A five-star experience awaits you at Tongva Park.

If I could give 9 stars I would, an incredibly creatively laid out public park with climbing equipment and slides like you've never seen before (check out the pictures). There are lots of bushes and trees, whisking you way from the bumble of the city. There are plenty of quite places to sit and read or just close your eyes.

There have lockers and bathrooms as well - and you are just beyond the Santa Monica pier.

This is a great park located on Ocean Avenue really close to the Santa Monica Pier. My wife and I walked near this park other times, but this was my first time walking into it. It is great for families because they have slides and splash areas, and there are some great architectural features. I found it very tranquil, and I especially liked the platforms with views of the beach and the pier. It is worth spending time there.

A good use of space between the Santa Monica City Hall and the pier.
On crowded Sundays, we’ve parked by the City Hall and walked thru this pretty park to get to the pier and beaches. We’ve even stopped here to eat our take-out’s from a nearby restaurant, and then watched the sunset!
The exotic desert plants were very well maintained. There were trash containers strategically placed, encouraging users to pickup where they left off! The grounds and restrooms are well kept.
The artsy design of objects, seating areas and bordering made for a unique park setting, as well as the playground structures and mildly inclined, simulated (soft) rock climb steps, placed for kids to play on.
Families with children were playing here, despite a small homeless presence, tho they didn’t seem to be bothering anyone.
I did see surveillance cameras mounted here and there, instilling a sense of normalcy in an otherwise uncertain environment.
After all, this is a great little public park for everyone to enjoy!

I bring my son here all the time to play! It's a fun park for kids with slides and jungle gyms. It's also beautifully landscaped. I used to walk around this park and sit on the benches and watch people before I was a parent. So the park is for all ages. I recommend going early on the weekends because parking isn't easy in Santa Monica.

Fun place for the whole family. The kiddos will enjoy the splash pad and playgrounds and the adults and grab some shade and have a nice picnic. Doesn’t hurt that the Pacific Ocean and SM pier are across the street!

This park wasn't there few years ago. It's nice to walk into some green after a visit from the beach. It's so big that you can walk to through the park from the City Hall to the Pier.

We walked through this park on our way to Santa Monica Pier, as there was parking on the other side of it. It was very beautiful, with winding trails separated from each other by gorgeous landscaping, allowing for private walks. The succulents were huge and awesome, really great example of the possibilities for Southern California landscaping. Also has a water play area, and some sculptural observation points with good views of the pier.

Exceptional city park dedicated in 2013 and named after the local Native American Tongva people who have lived in the Los Angeles Basin for thousands of years. Full of art and beautiful garden spaces and a modernist jungle gym. Don't miss the public art piece Weather Field No. 1.

Nice park with sits that overlooking the Santa Monica beach, pier, city hall. Tongva sits at the southern tip of the picturesque Pacific Coast Highway, which extends up the shore to Big Sur, San Francisco, and beyond, and Olympic Drive, a local three-lane street, was extended along the park’s southeastern edge. One unique art piece is Weather Field No. 1, by Chicago-based artist Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, comprises a field of 49 stainless steel poles with weather vanes and anemometers attached as you can see in the pictures. Another unique piece is The steel cocoon-esque pavilions, pictured below, and play structures were fabricated by Paragon Steel in Los Angeles.
