I came to pacific grove to have some time to heal with my dear friend who’s father passed away. We wanted to have a special dinner and we stumbled across a gem! Our host Monica was absolutely delightful. She made sure we were comfortable and from the way she described the menu, I knew the food was made with love and was going to be amazing. I had a lobster roll. Well let me start by saying the bread was so fresh and perfectly toasted. The lobster was so fresh. It was hands down the best lobster roll I ever had. We got steak fries to share that were absolutely delicious. The oil they used was fresh and the fries were perfectly cooked. My friend got a fried oyster slider and he said it was sooo good. We couldn’t stop there lol, so we ordered dessert to share: lemon meringue with fresh berries and whipped cream - yummmmmmmmy! Overall, the experience was definitely what we needed. From the hospitality, cleanliness of the restaurant, to the quality of food, and music choice: 5 stars to everyone.

Wonderful new addition to downtown Pacific Grove. With an inventive menu, a chic interior, and speedy service we were more than satisfied with our dining experience. We had the salmon wrapped scallops, which were terrific, the salad, and the fried oysters. Everything tasted great. We'll be back.

Excellent little spot that's well decorated, has great hospitality and service, and a yummy selection of food. We love oysters and they got em! The plates are small so its perfect to order a variety. Prices are great too! Big wine list, small beer list, and Sundays are the slider specials.

I’m literally still at the bar of Poppy Hall as I write this - it’s that good. Waitstaff was as friendly and accommodating as they could be even on a busy Sunday (perhaps down by one staff), the wine selection was spectacular (I had Tressomm Falanghila and partner had Hitching Post gen red) and the food - I can already tell is going to be great. The oysters on the half shell were all SO good (Try 1 of each!)

EDIT:
We also had:
Hamachi crude
Salmon gravlox
Mussels (we ordered fresh oysters but a mix up led to these with their delicious sauce)

All of it PHENOMENAL.

Food is good, portions generous, and staff friendly. Loved the shishitos pepper appetizers. My companion had the NY Steak, which was very tasty. I had the prosciutto-wrapped trout hi, and while it was tasty, the saltiness of the prosciutto overwhelmed the taste of the fish. The chocolate pudding was sinfully delish. Highly recommended.

I had a really lovely breakfast here. Walked up on a Sunday around 11am and no wait, actually seemed quiet compared to the lines I saw at other places; I couldn’t believe that poppy hall wasn’t swamped on a Sunday because it was so delicious! (People love waiting in lines for brunch huh? Not me) I love the creative brunch items and not just the run of the mill 2 egg breakfast. The donut was incredible. Everyone was really nice and the service was great. Will be back when I’m down in PG again :)

We had two meals here this weekend: late lunch on Saturday and brunch on Sunday. Don’t go here if you’re looking for something traditional. Do go here if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary with reasonable prices and great service. The food is amazing and focused on flavor and presentation. We really enjoyed the outdoor seating and the attention of the wait staff.

I’d give 10 stars if I could.
The good is outstanding good. We had the vegetable purée and the mushroom ravioli, lemon- poppyseed cake for desert.
Everything was incredibly good!
Fresh ingredients, made with love, served with a smile!
All waiters super friendly and sweet.
Feels like family diner!
Though it was very busy, everything came quickly.
Thank you so much for hosting us!

Fun fact: You’re passing the kitchen on the way to the restrooms- tells me that they know how clean and well organised they’re working, so they do not mind guests to take a closer look behind the scenes.

We really enjoyed this place! Came here not knowing what the menu would be - they're doing a 'grazing' menu (i.e. small plates). Food, service and wine were all great! They didn't rush us even though they have limited seating. Hot tip - try the mushroom ravioli, mussels, and hush puppy and don't forget to save room for the chocolate pudding!

Great local place! Recommend making reservations. The patio addition is well made and service and food were amazing. The coffee shop next door was having an open mic night so we had some free entertainment. One recommendation is for them to add heaters if possible.

This is the restaurant to beat in Monterey. It baffles me why this place isn't packed nightly. Here's why.

Poppy Hall possesses something most restaurants in this area lack: clear, concise direction with the cooking skill to back it up. The ingredients are simple, well cooked, and the flavors all harmonize. I came in on a slow Tuesday for dinner (I'd been for brunch and that's a whole other beast) and every single dish came out coursed, and cooked to perfection. By one cook. That is an extremely dangerous man. Kudos.

The menu doesn't try too impress you with terminology. It does it with flavors and classic techniques, finished with a touch of modern style. Rustic, but elevated. The duck breast dish is a perfect example. Gigante beans and spinach, a perfect med-rare duck breast in a sauce that would make Paul Bocuse smile, and a touch of herb oil.

Service was great. Utensils were polished, napkins folded nicely (aesthetically pleasing), clear wine glasses. (You'd expect these things to be standard, but these details that are often overlooked in this area IMO). FOH staff were attentive, very friendly and so pleasant to interact with.

Décor is unique and charming. I'm coming back here. Often. You should to.

We stopped in for a snack. They had a lot of fresh local mushrooms which we enjoyed very much. The staff is SUPER friendly and attentive. The kids loved the desserts. The merengue was a favorite for everyone.

Both entrees were well prepared. Neither pork not duck were over out under cooked, starches and veg were high quality. Staff were friendly and don't their best with the small space they had. I think this place is a welcome addition to downtown Pacific Grove.

Outstanding execution of elevated seasonal California comfort foods, featuring fine local ingredients. (We met the local mushroom forager, who was delivering incredible porcini!) Great service and lively atmosphere in picturesque downtown Pacific Grove. Highly recommended.

EXCELLENT food! I have been in the area for a while, however never eaten here. One of the best places to eat. Food is fresh, and not the same old boring menu items. Service is a tad slow but it is because they are soooo busy. Make a reservation!! Thank you for your phenomenal spot. I will be coming here often.

We love Poppy Hall! The food, the team that runs it and the vibe is great. They have a cozy parklet with lots of heat lamps for Covid times.Tonight I enjoyed the locally caught halibut and my daughter had the curry cauliflower soup and "hippy handgrinade" salad. We ended our meals with their delicious chocolate chip cookies. Dawn our server was attentive and helpful all evening.
