Red Elm Cafe

This is one of the best coffee shops in Tacoma. The staff is always kind, welcoming, and friendly. The atmosphere is light, clean, and cheery.

They have a great conference room you can use for meetings, a kid's play area, and great seating.

I love getting work done here while I enjoy one of their delicious coffees and scrumptious food choices. (Get a cookie!)

Sofie is the new owner, so there are a lot of changes being implemented. I enjoyed it because it has an old diner feel and it's open to all people to come in. It's a small business, which presents its own challenges, however when there is a change or feedback they are open to it. My favorite food there is hard, I enjoyed the Waffles and customizing, but I will say the stacks for sure. The employees there make it special, and the opportunity to help grow young employees to their career paths made my time there enjoyable. I think you can expect what you get there, its a diner feel that has a great community vibe, and it makes it special. Its hard to rate food, it says what it is it warming up food. I love to dress things up but it's food and it reheated and it also uses local business and others to support the economy. I love that. If you're a student, on the go need a quick meal to prep when you can't do it all, because no one can, it's a great stop in. I also love how passionate everyone is about the work. There are some really unique and cool people here and I very much can say it was also one of my favorite places to work at because of it.

Red Elm is the restaurant I never skip visiting when I’m in Tacoma. It’s a warm, welcoming place with great drinks and great food. The drinks are stand-outs (I like the cappuccino particularly) but the food is good and a good value. I’ve had a couple of different sandwiches and a couple of soups, and they’ve all been great. I’m not big on desserts, but people I know have tried them have also recommended them. Keep an eye out for the community events, too - the Saturday morning chess club is great.

The place is really cozy and all the workers are super chill! The waffle was super good, though personally? I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so I really shouldn't have gotten whipped cream AND chocolate chips on it. But I think it was still super good, just too rich for me (my own fault really). As soon as I sat on the couch, it pleasantly caught me off guard how comfortable it was and how I just sunk into it

Walking along MLK in the ❤of Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood, we accidentally stumbled upon this place! It's a lovely open space with local art for sale. A little play corner for the kids too (play kitchen & play sink).
We had tea....epically hot and chamomile (u fix your own sweet at a side table)

They have their own version of cake pops that's waffle based. Red velvet or chocolate and kid approved. You can have it drizzled with chocolate or raspberry sauce and whipped cream.

The owner and staff are a dream !!! So sweet and super catering to my friends 3 kids i had with me today. They devoured their treats and played. We stayed longer cause the kids didn't want to leave. Please support local. And make this a stop.it was divine!!!
A nice lady was here and she said the spinach mozz sandwich they made her was better than the chain...ahem, bucks, ahem she normally gets it from . A hidden gem you need to discover!

When i lived in Tacoma and had quite possibly the worst time of my life because of my living situation. this cafe would take care of me and i would always look forward to my day off to just have a latte and eat a yummy treat. The staff were so nice to me and kind and created such a welcoming environment.

Stopped in Tacoma for one night and swung by Red Elm for breakfast on the way home. Updated menu includes a vegan waffle (and gluten free)! It was delicious: crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Served with syrup and a strawberry sauce. There was ample seating and a children's play area. Staff was friendly and service was super quick. Highly recommend!

While visiting a friend in Tacoma, she brought me to Red Elm Cafe, and it was a treat. I ordered the chai per recommendation of staff, and was pleased to not be overwhelmed by sweetened flavors. They had hemp, oat and soy alternative milk choices. My friend ordered a drip with room for cream, a bacon and cheddar waffle, a waffle dog for her kid, and a waffle for myself. The service was excellent and friendly, and the ambience of the space was warm and comfortable. They have a room that can be reserved for meetings.

Such a comfortable cafe with adorable furniture and lovely food! I stopped in for the cherry lemonade and am so glad I also grabbed an aussie toast. Definitely a perfect complement to a grey, rainy Tacoma day. This was my first time in and I will absolutely be back soon.

Vegan and gluten free options. We had the vegan waffle and the cheesy bacon gluten free waffle. Excellent texture and flavor. Coffee was great. We will be back

A very large and comfortable space with wonderful food and staff, complete with plenty of seating and outlets for the worker on the go. I'll be happy to come by more in the future.

This place is amazing! This is my favorite coffee shop in Tacoma. Best coffee. Best lounging environment. Inexpensive good bites. Amazing baristas. Amazing gluten free options.

Warm and mellow atmosphere with plenty of seating and decor. Staff are inviting and friendly. Food was tasty and affordable, I had the sausage stack with egg for ≈$5. They've made a regular of me.

The gluten free waffle was delicious and filling. My caramel macchiato was spectacular. I’ll be back!

Vegan Waffles are really good, crunchy and filling. They made me a vegan Chai latte that was to brag about as well!
I appreciate that they accept digital payment methods like Apple Pay via square, cleaner and way easier over touching dirty cash. Good prices.

Great lil place for a quick bite! Awesome breakfast sandwiches with the best tomato soup EVER served in a cute space with great vibes and super sweet people --- will definitely be back! Also, very affordable paired with great quality ingredients is hard to come by, but Red Elm Café has nailed it ☆☆☆☆☆

What a great place in an up and coming neighborhood. This area was once known for its depressed economy but is now one of the areas on the rise. Let’s hope that it can maintain its diversity in a diverse community. That being said they offer a good selection of gluten free and vegan fair. I had the waffle and it kept me full up till dinner. Tastey and a generous portion. Definitely give them a try.
