Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park

It is a fairly decent park. It has a small bike trail. Bbq ready. Fairly busy. Only issue is the trash from the local homeless folks. The city keep up fairly well, though. Has a small simple playground with wood chips Also has a covered picnic area, good for parties. Includes King Kennedy Center. The bathrooms are also open 24/7. Rare these days. My favorite feature is the dog drinking fountain and faucet located in the center of the park in between the playground and the picnic area. And if you are a baseball or horseshoe fan you will love the pits and the baseball fields.

In February 2021, this park was was officially renamed after the highly honorable Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Big thank you to the Modesto City Council but this wouldn't have happened without the vision of Mr. Sebastian J. Jones and the tireless work and dedication of Amanda Duran.

We attended the Juneteenth Celebration today. What a great mix of local and nearby talent! The 2-day celebration started Friday with a youth talent show and continued Saturday. Many people were at the park. All aspects and amenities of the park were being put to full use. Great weather, food and people, all at Mellis park.

Friendly neighborhood park, with lots of trees, a beautiful playground, it has a Boys and Girls Club right inside the park, baseball and softball fields, along with a large entertainment gazebo and barbecue area, to have events, plenty of parking. Park is located next to the West Modesto Community Center which has lots of resources and events for Youth and Seniors scheduled for the community, and around Modesto.
Mellis Park also has the Helen White Memorial walking trail, which is a half mile walking trail with sitting areas along the way.

The people there are very respectful and you definitely don't have to worry about your child...a safe place!

It is a big part that houses the lot of them lower class citizens of Modesto and surrounding areas it is a great safe haven for those who are looking for a place to spend the day

Great Park. A lot of memories of playing here as a small child and walking through on the way to jr. high.

Great experience....I met an angel I'm attaching myself to...Angels of Hope Homes for Women....a divine appointment.

Keeping it real on the west side N.A. & A.A. MEETINGS Friday evenings. Not sure of time. Think it's around six or seven pm
