West Rock State Park - Lake Wintergreen Parking Area

It's such a lovely spot for a hike. The view is absolutely stunning! There are three areas for parking, and a portapotty, as well as a trash bin at the entrance. There are also two picnic tables and wooden structures you can find on your adventure.

Our third time to this beautiful serene lake. We've mountain biked and hiked to a beautiful lookout. Today the lot was full to capacity with cars parked outside the gaits but we only passed by 4 or 5 people. The place is huge with so many off trails. We stayed on the main trail which had some areas of mud from rain earlier in the day and a mild upgrade at one point since we had to take the lower level at the bottom of the falls because we had a stroller and the trail narrows and gets really rocky for about 1/8 of a mile. The baby fell asleep with the bumpy ride and the little dog was able to keep up and even waded in the stream I included a pic of. It took us about an hour and was a very enjoyable. Very well kept and clean.

I love it here. Way less busy than east rock, so it's comfortable visiting during this pandemic. You can easily wander off into the woods via several different marked trails, or you can just take a loop around the lake. It's beautiful, easy to navigate, and definitely worth visiting over and over again. And super pet friendly!

Parking lot was pretty tight on a saturday. Awesome trail system. White to red and red/white is a great 1.5 mile loop around the lake. Red/white part is very rocky and rooty and something out of a dream. Ended up taking the green trail to the cave and overlook. Spent about 5 hours here hiking.

Nice trail. Well kept with friendly hikers.

Today was an awsome day. We have a group of 19 people, and the weather was fenomenal. We wanted to visit the waterfalls and they where roaring crazy, thanks to the rain last night. 🍁 We did the white and purple trial. A little moddy because the rain, the leafs are to slepery and you have to pay attention or you will flip very easy. 🍁 West Rock Ridge State Park is a public recreation area located in New Haven, Hamden, and Woodbridge, Connecticut. The state park is named for the 400-to-700-foot trap rock West Rock Ridge, which is part of the Metacomet Ridge extending from Long Island Sound to the Vermont border.

So beautiful! Can’t believe it’s just a few minutes from New Haven.

it's absolutely gorgeous here, although i visited in the winter and it was really cold. they have little benches for just sitting, relaxing, and looking at the water. also many trails !

Wonderful place to enjoy hiking in any season, spring summer fall or winter, it's lovely just to walk around or even seat somewhere near to the lake and enjoy the view. Don't miss it.

This is a beautiful area to walk, walk your dog, run and hike. Many different colors in all seasons and different animal sightings. Summer seems to have a tick season which we have started to avoid the last four years but this landscape is beautiful and if you can you should definitely visit. It takes about 30-40 min to hike to the top depending on route taken. There are a few trails going up or down or around the west rock so there is something for everyone.

Great mini hike for youth and family or couples

Very easy and beautiful hike! This park is very dog friendly and we saw so many dogs here. I will be back for sure. There are so many trails depending on how far you want to go.

Great trail for hiking or biking. Bring your dog and/or kids

Great hikes and kayaking if you have grade school aged kids. It's so close to the city but feels like the middle of nowhere, a nice convenient escape.

This was my first time here. I took one of my clients so we could relax and eat lunch at one of the pic-nic tables. It was absolutely beautiful and plan on trying the hiking trails in the fall.

Best trails to run on in the state if you don't mind getting a little Muddy. Just embrace the nitty gritty.

Even in the winter this is a great spot for hiking. The trails are quite flat, thus making the trails nice and relaxing for a stroll or for walking the dog.
