DIRTY STORE. They have a cat running around to catch the mice who eat through packages. They are scam artists as well. You are rarely charged the same price for the same product? Each cashier has his own opinion what an item costs regardless of what its rung up for. My advice to them is to spend money a exterminator with all the money you've overcharged people. If you feel like getting a disease from rodents, then shop at this store.

They take advantage of any & everyone. I've lived in the neighborhood for 7 years and have frequented the place often, it is a recurring problem.

It's predictably overpriced & much of the product is old. It's clean enough for a neighborhood store but is a magnet for the usual panhandlers & local drama especially at night. They stopped taking EBT over the summer & no longer serve deli items. It may have been health department issue or they may have been cited for other reasons as the store was shut down for about a week during that time as well.

If you need something in a pinch, shopping there can be considered a necessary evil, cuz man they are slick.

Tips for shopping here:

Avoid at all costs.

But if Ya gotta:

Don't send little kids in bc they are routinely taken advantage of especially if using a debit/credit card, or if an item isn't marked (you will definitely get charged different prices from different clerks). They also charge a .50 surcharge for cards, even the EBT when they were taking them, which I suspect is illegal.

Watch how many times they scan an item.

Make sure they are inputting the prices correctly.

Most Importantly:

Ask for a total & to see the register BEFORE paying!

Ask for a reciept Every.Single.Time.

I am not even joking a little bit. If you even try to ask for a refund when they "accidentally" overcharge you, you're just gonna get a ridiculous run around til you give up because of the futility.

I am currently disputing how they managed to charge me $13.29 for 1 16oz container of Ajax dishwashing liquid, wherein the clerk told me to come back after dark for a refund.

So yea... shop at your own risk, but preferably DON'T.

Horrible location.they overcharge, do not recognize tax law and charge merchant fees instead of taxes and overcharge their customers on items. I bought 15 items at .79 but the guy charged me .99 for each and a merchant fee and I waited to see if he would do the right thing. Definitely contacting the better business bureau. Store also has no price tags and guesses how much things are on the spot.

ALWAYS ask for a receipt and bring a calculator. They will try to cheat you.

On this evening I went to a Holy Spirit filled church in Dixwell Ave in Hamden on the drive back south bound I decided to buy something sweet and a couple of
sodas so I went to Sam's in Whalley Ave, I made a mistake adding the total in my head and the owner seemed bothered but tried to hold his composure and be polite although I apologized twice he chose to stsy on the topic. Perhaps this is why in his haste he may inadvertantly given me $2.00 less. My total came to $4.20 but he said he would charge me $3.95; all I had was $21.00 $1.00 of which I gave a gentleman that was pandering there was also a girl that was pandering and she asked me also but all I had left was a $20.00. It appears that in excitement of the discourse with the owner I put the money back in my wallet, and it wasn't until I got home that I noticed I was given $14.20. Hesistantly
I called Sam's mart to speak to the owner regarding the $2.00 discrepency, but he had left I was told by the evening shift to call tomorrow to speak to the owner. It is not really the money, but my finanancially situation that compells me to appreciate the value of a $1.00 although I do find it rewarding giving to people in need, but not being overcharged.
I do not want to personally comfront this man in fear of his human nature, I will call him to inform him of the discrepency and let him make the decision as to whether or not he wants to mke restitution.

This is not a Sam's Club. Screw them and their deliberately misleading name. I went 20 miles in the wrong direction
