Hands the the best pizza I’ve ate anywhere. Awesome building. The Italian draft beer was good( and much needed after a 21 hr drive), the salad was great with a lot of fresh greens, dressing was great. The classic tomato pie with mozzarella was outstanding, great cheese, crust, and the sauce was out of this world. Also had a slice of canoli pie and it was good. Overall an excellent experience.

The most delicious and authentic Italian pizza I've had to date! We ordered a split medium which is 16 inches. Half margherita and half mushroom & peppers. Amazing! It was so hot and fresh. After that we ordered a Tiramisu to share. That was good but a bit frozen for my taste. Loved lunching here. The place had a very vintage vibe. Staff was polite and friendly.

Solid pizza place. The waitress recommend the PERFECT pizza portions for our hungry group of 10 people. The pizzas were all delicious—highly recommend the sausage ricotta pizza. Price came out to be about 13 dollars per person including TIP which is honestly a really good deal. Everyone left feeling very full and happy :))

We visited a bunch of the New Haven pizza places and this was my favorite. Good crust, sauce and toppings. No complaints at all. The service was great and super friendly.

We got a large pizza (half meat lovers and half cheese). There was a generous amount of toppings and they all tasted great! Will definitely be back. Lived up to the hype, unlike Sally’s.

Ordered a large cheese with half pepperoni and a small white clam with bacon. Both were excellent! The online ordering process was slick and allowed me to bypass the long line out the door (even at 1120am). They have a very efficient process for getting takeout people their food.
There are two convenient parking lots for customers on both sides of the one-way street.
Individual reviews:
Clam pizza (w/ bacon): Very clammy! It could use some lemon on the side and it's a little wet, but if you like clams: this will be for you. They aren't just strips. You'll get a variety of clam textures to include some belly. The bacon adds a little variety and richness, but (again) could use some acid from lemon to cut that and boost flavor.
Cheese: very bright and flavorful. Well balanced, tight, and perfectly cooked undercarriage. Don't pass this up. It'd be very easy to wolf down a medium size solo...
Pep: the pep is thick and very flavorful. I think it overpowered the nuanced flavors of the cheese and sauce, but it's a good contrast if your mouth gets numb to the standard pie. It's a good salty punch to contrast the soft and slightly chewy crust. Don't go more than half pie of the pep, you'll miss out on the masterpiece of the base pie.

A local very popular restaurant worthy of Michelin 1+ star performance. white clam pizza is a must try. This restaurant is deep in history and is celebrating its 100th year. Great atmosphere and vibe. Run by generations of family owners. Definitely need to check out their wood fire stone oven. it is the largest I have ever seen from east to west coast. if you come across one bigger please let me know. Even if this oven is second in size I bet you have a hard time finding one bigger.

This was a wonderful experience from the moment we walked in until we left. We (family of 4) were promptly greeted and seated upon arrival. Menus were provided immediately, and since it was our first time here, we put in our drink order while we took some extra time to decide what we wanted. We were never rushed. We ultimately decided on 2 large margherita pizzas and one small specialty pie with mushrooms along with a large Caesar salad. My husband ordered a sangria and the rest of us had sodas. The pizza was spectacular. We live in the suburbs of NYC, so we are surrounded by fantastic pizza, but this was truly something special. Obviously you need to know going in that this is coal fired pizza so it’ll be crispy but the dough, sauce, cheese, and basil were all in perfect proportion and enjoyed by all of us. Next time we need to leave room for dessert! We downloaded the app and were able to use our $10 off coupon, but we can honestly say it was totally worth the price and 2 1/2 hour ride home.

From the south and was in town so of course I had to try a New Haven style pizza. Never had a clam pizza so I tried it as well as a pepperoni. I ordered both in small. They came out in a thin crust style so they had a good crunch to them. The coal fired cooking added to the taste. Neither pizza had any of that greasy oil on them which made a great experience. The clam pizza was different but pretty tasty. I preferred the pepperoni though. The red sauce had a great flavor. Fantastic atmosphere and staff were very friendly. If you’re in the area it’s worth a try.

I can see why this place garners such hype!

I would consider Sally's to be slightly better. My fiancee and I still absolutely loved this place. The tomato pie was sensational. The pizza was also great. We both gave it over a 9.

This place is incalculably greater than Modern, which was very disappointing to both of us.

When we come back to a New Haven, we will be coming back here again.

I probably won't eat any pizza near me for quite sometime after having something like this.

The sauce is incredible. Not too sweet, not too acidic. Not too oily. The white clam lived up to the reputation and was the stand out for us. The margherita was similarly great with a super bright flavor. There's a little bit of a chew to their pie but that charred crust and the ratios with their ingredients is unreal. I'd eat it alone and be happy. Not to mention they were able to serve us within 40 minutes last minute on a Saturday afternoon. Very happy we stopped here.

We embarked on a East Coast Pizza tour and Montes made the list of contenders

Based on Dave Portnoy’s reviews this definitely was one we looked forward to

Pepes is a cornerstone in the New Haven pizza scene.

We ordered two pies: a pepperoni with garlic/basil and a cheese. They absolutely were great pizzas but for me it was a strong 8 maybe 9. The crust was excellent, no flop, crispy, buttery and flavorful. The sauce was delicious and mild.

The prices here are excellent . The salad we ordered was top notch.

The service was great. Value was great. Bathroom was clean.

This place is definitely worth a stop but not a 10. Will definitely give 5 star though since I’d like to see it closer to 4.5

We were able to be seated asap, at table 19. Our server promptly came to us, brought waters. We ordered the Sangria (adult koolaid!), which was refreshing and sweet, but in a good way. We decided to order 3 small pizzas (they have a bundle), and got the bacon with onion, the white clam pizza (enjoy while still hot, still good cold but classic can get chewy), unlike the clams at Sally's, these seemed much bigger and definitely fresh (not sure how Sally does their clam but its still good), and the Margherita pizza.

My personal favorite was the bacon and onion, followed by the clam, and Margherita.

All were delish, we really enjoyed it here.

First stop of our new haven pizza tour and they absolutely delivered. Waited less than 30 minutes to get seated at about 1230pm on a Sunday. Amazing atmosphere and food was delicious. Service was fantastic and we enjoyed every minute spent there. Watching them work in the kitchen was a treat and it's very cool to see the history on the walls and know not much has changed in 100 years.

Legendary. Just walking in and seeing the ovens make you want to try every pie on the menu. The sauce is by far the best compared to all the other great places in NH. Savory and delicious. The crust has that perfect crunch. What else can you say that hasn't already been said by others.

I guess the first thing is get here early. There is always a line outside.
Immediately, the service is outstanding. The waitress came right over and offered me a drink and help with my order. I got the original with mozzarella and a coke. The coke arrived, and it was like the food old days. Fuzzy, cold, and taste like a coke. Everybody seems to be having a great time here.
I got my small pie with sausage and pepperoni. I couldn't wait for my first bite. My review is that the pizza is good but you come here for the experience. This place takes you back in time, if you're my age. Brick oven pizza and everything slides off of the pizza when it's piping hot. So be careful.
Good pizza. Great service. Awesome atmosphere. Pretty quick with your order. Now I have to try the other place, down the road.

This is an amazing place and the pizza is so good. The service was great and we got there right after they opened so it was less crowded. We got the 3 pizza sampler and it was the way to go. The alla carne pizza was the best. I would suggest getting the original but in the large pie form, it just tastes better bigger.

Great atmosphere! Pizza was amazing and service was great! A must stop on your New England Road Trip! We stopped here for lunch on our way to Maine! Sign up for their free rewards program for $10 off! We (2 adults) got 2 mediums and had sooo much leftover to give you a reference for portion sizes!

What an amazing pizza. I'm kinda a pizza snob. I was just disappointed the day before in Long Island and this was not a disappointment. The pepperoni was amazing. Slight char just the way I like it. Tomato sauce was outstanding. The dough/crust was amazing. Staff were all smiling and friendly. I went inside to pick it up and they have these long sticks putting them into the oven. Very authentic. I was impressed with the whole experience. Can't wait to try a different kind next time. ***Update**** 11-21-23 second trip. Customer service amazing. Pizza still amazing! People were lined up outside in the cold waiting to get in. You know it's good when you see that. Everyone had a smile and was very polite. Can't wait to pass through the area again.

Frank Pepe‘s is a nostalgic throwback of a pizzeria. That aside, the pizza is fantastic. Today we had a sausage, pizza and a clam and bacon pizza. Both pizzas were outstanding. Everything you could ask for in a pizza. Dough is light and chewy with a nice crisp to it And every bite feels like the first bite which makes you go mmmmmmm. If you go to Connecticut, you need to hit a New Haven pizzeria.
