I have always enjoyed the Farmington Canal trail or greenway since 1995, now many years later a miles longer there is even more sites and sounds to enjoy. A great community resource where you and your family can enjoy a nice slow paced walk or a brisk paced jog, run, rollerblade or bicycle ride. Many people bring along the four legged member of the family for a great way to get some fresh air and a nice exercise. I can walk through the same stretch of this linear trail and see something I hadn't seen before. Great for nature photography not to mention it's healthy. Most people you pass either say hi or a nod of the head just enjoying the views.

It is a very long walking-trekking- biking road starting from New Haven. Generally the areas close to the downtown are a bit scattered but after a few miles it is very beautiful and excellent place for walking and sports. It is very long so it is also good for biking. I didn't see the end of the road yet but will definitely see it in the future.

This trail is fantastic. It is my favorite trail for length. It is also really beautiful, yet you have access to several towns and urban centers from the trail. There are parking nodes with restrooms that are well-kept, and it is generally well-tended.

My dog and I only walk a couple sections but those are mostly clean; and very well maintained. We see lots of other walkers, cyclists, runners, etc. Since we are close to Science Park, there are multiple blue emergency call for help safety poles (not sure of the proper description or name). They make me feel safe; we walk different times a day, sometimes early morning and sometimes in the evening. Always enjoy it. Definitely something to check out for bother resident and tourists!

A unique place with a view of the Quinnipiac River. So few places you can enjoy a beer and some food in New Haven on the water but this is one of them. The place is staffed it seems primarily with people connected to all the boats docked around. This gives it some quirky personality. You also get a real sense that people are proud of what they're doing there and they take care of you. They're large outdoor area where they have plans to show movies and host community gatherings. This is a casual community place not fancy upscale waterfront dining. You can also rent kayaks from the neighboring Marina so I could see this being a good place for a date where you rent a kayak and come rack and have a meal overlooking the river.

Awesome. Well maintained. Gorgeous, smooth. Someone should tell the jerk on the dirt bike doing 30mph about the no motorized vehicles rule though :)

Great bike path. Ride from New haven to Cheshire. Continues even further but all sections aren't connected. Hopefully they will be someday. Good bird watching also.

The crown jewel of the multi-use trail network in southern New England, it connects an astounding number of scenic areas, historic districts, breweries, farms, museums and other attractions across a dozen different towns from New Haven to the Massachusetts border.

I absolutely adore this route. You don't have to ride a bike. You can walk, run, even whatever you want. Safe, very pretty view and wonderfully maintained.

Clean and easily traversed. Less hectic for those biking than the bike lanes in the road. I'm happy to have it, and live so close nearby.

The Farmington Canal, also known as the New Haven and Northampton Canal, was a major private canal built in the early 19th century to provide water transportation from New Haven into the interior of Connecticut, Massachusetts and beyond. Its Massachusetts segment was known as the Hampshire and Hampden Canal.

Great place to ride a bicycle, or walk!
Downtown New Haven, through Hamden, Cheshire, all the way to Farmington, obviously. 💪🤓😇🤘
