Old Chicago Pizza + Taproom

Me and my boyfriend came down from Minnesota to Iowa for a concert on May 30th. We stopped by on May 31st before we drove back home and during the time there was a few tables and not crazy busy. We got some cheesy garlic bread and pretzel sticks to share and got some pomegranate lemonade and another kind. Then for the main course he made himself a meats pizza then I got the Farmers daughter. Omg, I would be crazy if I didn't say my pizza was absolutely amazing! Everything tasted so good, it was hot, so cheesy, etc. Plus a day later it reheats in the oven perfectly! 4 slices was a perfect amount for me because they are such big portions. I enjoyed the whole experience and our waitress was so kind. If I ever come back down to Iowa I'll definitely be coming back!

I've only been here a few times (5 or 6, I think) as of this posting, but everything has been great each time I've visited. The food is great, the service is excellent, and the beer selection is vast. Even the vegetables I've had as sides were nice and crispy.

We brought a group 6 and on a Friday night, two kids and four adults. We were looking for something to accommodate a larger group and something for the kids. It turned out great. Not too busy. Good staff. Good food. Very happy with our visit to this OC.

My wife and I got takeout from here for the first time on 10/27. It was so good, and the employees were very helpful. The calzone is great. We also recommend the Pepperoni Rolls & Garlic Bread. Will definitely return.

Old Chicago is a large national American Italian pizza chain, however, placed in a relatively small college town like Ames, it feels rather special. There is a large number of beers on tap, and plenty of food to choose from on the menu. The best part, the college students tend to not visit this place, so we really like coming here to get away from the college scene. We tend to stay away from the deep dish pizza... In fact, we usually have our Tuscan Chicken on their crispy thin crust. We often eat at odd hours, so having both the regular happy hour and the late-night happy hour is a great perk. The Ames location has ample parking, the crowding isn't too bad unless there's a football game in town, and the service is good.

Amazing. Best pizza I've ever had. I ordered the cheese only pizza with hand tossed crust and I absolutely loved it. There wasn't many people so I didn't have to wait at all to get in. The only complaint that I have is that the wait for the food was a little long, about 20 minutes, but the pizza was so good I had to give this place a 10/10, definitely recommend

My friends and i use to have a weekly meet up during happy hour at Old Chicago. Great atmosphere, drink, food, and service.

Great food, good service. A bit expensive but it was worth it.

Had the Tuscan chicken with spinach on thin crust. It was really yummy. Rachel was very friendly and very helpful. Thank you Rachel for helping us find a great pizza. Definitely will make a point to come back.

I went during an event called kids build their own pizza. It was a nice idea and I gave it a try. They allow up two 2 kids pizza with each adult entry. The cost of the kids pizza is $2. They bring everything as show in the picture below and then after the kids put the sauce and toppings they take it to bake it. This is a limited time event and it went every Monday only from 4 to 8 PM. Call before going to make sure it is still going on.

Food was way better at this location than at some of the others, service was fast and friendly, and the place was super clean

Our food and server were great. My girlfriends and I had a lot of catching up to do, lots of talking. Our server let us take all the time we wanted, no push or impatience. We were in the dining room, no one else there so we weren't causing people to wait.

The best calzones in the state. My friend had the chicken fried chicken, which was also very good. Unfortunately, construction in the area makes it a bit difficult to get to at the moment, but the food is so good, it was worth the 40-plus mile trip from Des Moines.

This was our first time here. Great beer selection. The pepperoni roll appetizer was a big hit.

Good experience. Pizza could use a couple more minutes in the oven. Service was solid. Not overly attentive, though.

We ate old Chicago in Ames Iowa on July 27th Heather R. Was our server. We had our usual tall order of bone in wings firehouse sauce! These were the best usually we have to ask for more sauce! Not this time for dinner we I had penne Alfredo awesome, my husband had the firehouse calzone! It was awesome, he always needs extra marina sauce but loved all the peppers on it! We stop at the old Chicago on road trips I like the beer selection and my husband is a PBR kinda guy and he can enjoy a beer while I enjoy the wide variety of craft Beer!
We usually always stop in Ames either on our way to our destination or on the way home! Great place and awesome service and food!

We love the tavern thin pizza. They were really busy. ISU graduation weekend. But we had great service and food is always consistently good!

Great food, great service, very responsive to needs and was quick to help point out specials and local favorites.

I really enjoyed weekdays lunch menu. Price was resonable, it included salad as well.

The service was amazing. The waitress didn't come 1000 times interrupting our meal. I went with several co worker's. She didn't even ask just filled our drinks no problem. I waa comfortable and the food was AMAZING 👏. Keep up the great work 👏. Great atmosphere and great experience
