University of Illinois - Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics, 1409 W Green St, Urbana, IL 61801 is housed in Altgeld Hall. It's an old and historic building on campus. Wonderful learning spaces taking you back in time a hundred years to simpler times for classrooms.

Such a beautiful place on the inside! The mathematics library is a great place to study without having to interact with frat/sorority people.

This building has beautiful design from the outside, resembling a castle or something out of Harry Potter, and the integrated USPS office makes it super-convenient for mailing stuff. The math library is also a great place to study alone. Parts of the interior looks pretty nice with the decorations, wood and marble. The design and the bell tower are what make this place stand out from the rest.

All of that aside, the rest of the place is quite dirty. When I had my first class in the lecture hall, my eyes could not be more disgusted. It's a plain grey drab lecture hall in which almost half of the desks on the seats won't stay up, and the floor constantly looks like it hasn't been cleaned in ages, and so as the seats. I wouldn't be surprised if someone finds a cockroach crawling around the place or a bedbug in the seats. The light in the back occasionally flickers and flashes and when the radiator turns on in the winter, it sounds like someone in the back is hitting it with a baseball bat. The bathrooms are truly disgusting and cramped.

It's a damn beautiful building from outside, with a nice bell tower, but God does it suck to have classes there. It's always hot and smells weird, not to mention that the lecture hall as so many broken desks that people have to use lap boards.
