El Mezcal Mexican Restaurant

Complementary crispy chips and salsa with a little kick were a good starter. We had chicken taco salads, and will definitely be back! Good value for the money. Our server didn't seem too pleased to be at work but did get us what we needed.

Great place for Mexican food, although I can't speak for how authentic it is. But as someone who's used to food that's seasoned by condiments other than salt n pepper, this is one of my go to places in town. Serving sizes are more than enough and the staff are super nice! Love the complimentary nachos and sauce, one of the best I've had.

Loved the vegetable fajitas that come on a sizzling player.

The other food seemed strangely sweet and not very spicy. We had to ask for hot sauce to be added to all the dishes and my friend could not eat his enchiladas because the sauce on top was ridiculously sweet. I don't know if this is deliberately tuned for the locals' taste, but it is not the authentic flavour of Mexico I was hoping for.

Always good food, great service, quick at lunch. I have been eating at this particular restaurant for 5 years and the other locations in Topeka for many more years. A personal favorite.

Absolutely incredible experience!! As a person who is well versed in food of culture this was extremely great food. Forget all the negative reviews, clearly those are people who probably consume Taco Bell on a regular basis. The food and drinks were wonderful. Service was great as well!!

My daughter and I have met at El Mez Cal for lunch every other Monday since she moved to Lawrence for school. I meant to but forget to ask her name but the young lady who always serves us is outstanding. We have been there when the restaurant was slow and we have been there during very busy lunch rushes. The service is hands down the best in Lawrence. The food is absolutely amazing, both my husband and my daughter recommend burrito Mexicano, my son, street tacos, and I go for the fajita steak quesadilla. Margaritas are mixed well and strong, salsa is freaking mind blowing, atmosphere is casual and peaceful, staff are all friendly and welcoming, and I’m not gonna lie, I lay awake at night thinking about the guacamole. A++++

Ordered through DoorDash. The Burrito Mezcal was amazing. My girlfriend loved the Burrito Mexicano. Will definitely have again!

Perfect Lunch plate is the SPEEDY GONZALEZ (but ask for the enchilada to be Bean instead of beef...) That really rounds it out!!
This pic is the Grilled Taco Salad, bed of rice with normal fill, onions, green pepper, lettuce,... ALWAYS GET THE BEAN-DIP!! The improved chips & salsa are fantastic!

Great food and service! Chips and salsa are good and the salsa is flavorful but not too spicy. Ground beef on the tacos also has good flavor.

They were short staffed when we went but they still did a great job with our order and we didn’t have a long wait either.

We will definitely be going back!

Went to lunch and had the Pollo Hawaiiono (grilled chicken with shrimp and pineapple) with salad & rice. It was Amazing! I would eat that every day. I love that they put pineapple on their dishes. Service was very fast. We enjoyed everything. It was my first time and I'll be back!

We were seated quickly even though they were busy when we arrived. The server was very attentive to our needs. The food was delicious with generous portions. We will definitely eat here again.

A favorite for Mexican food, large portions, quick service and the wait staff are always knowledgeable and friendly. The menu is extensive and I've been here a hundred times or more and have never been disappointed with my meal. Chips and mild salsa served when you're seated, just ask for the hot salsa, it's house made and not for sissies. Price is average, lunch deals are best pricing. Don't miss out on a great meal, El Mezcal is terrific. I do wish they would bring back the sweet salsa.

Very good food and the service was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and made sure that we had more salsa and drinks even before we signalled for refills. Just the way a well-run restaurant should be. Thank you!

Went there with my daughter and had an amazing meal. I highly recommend the Fajitas Tropical. My only regret was my fault and not theirs and that was that I brought cash and not my card without thinking and didn't have enough to tip as much as they deserved. But they're definitely the yummiest in Lawrence.

Incredible. Best Mexican I have tried in Lawrence. Everything was so good and so fresh. The enchiladaa sauce and burrito sauce and the salsa were so fresh and flavorful I was blown away. This is my new go to.
