I’ve only done internet orders with John but he’s top notch. Really knows his stuff, he spends the time with answering lots of back-and-forth emails and his prices & selection are great!

Bob took my Vintage 13.5 ft. Lamiglass Surf Rod Blank and turned it into a real classic wrapped lively 12 foot lead launcher !! Very proficient builder with the patience of a Saint ! Thank's Bob

I was fishing the beach this morning and fortunately catching when my line got caught under the spool after a cast and broke. I went to grumpys and Frank refilled my spool and I was back in 15 minutes. Great service. Thanks

Just updating this review, just bought a new rod and reel from them. Seriously, everybody is so helpful and always looking out for their customers best interests.

This is the gold standard in fishing tackle shops. They have everything, and the knowledge to go along with it.

Great place to go get fishing tackle and poles and pretty much anything you need to go fishing in the ocean the prices were somewhat expensive but not that much the staff were really nice they had lots of frozen fish for bait and had a really good selection of polls and stuff for crabbing

Grumpys is a one-stop-shop that services the area beaches.. It is probably 80% fishing gear and bait, but also has a dedicated corner of beach chairs, umbrellas, sunscreen, and sweatshirts and T's, which serviced the fishermen and non fishermen in our party. The shop keepers dry (but still friendly) sense of humor had us talking about him during the whole trip. Easy parking, centrally located. Definitely will be back when we are in the area again.

Outstanding service knowledge well-stocked is my experience. Unlike most stores nowadays these guys know the products know the equipment know the fish know the conditions and are extremely helpful and getting you set up with what your needs are I’ve been fishing for almost 50 years and going in and out of tackle shops and this one’s right at the top

Excellent bait/tackle shop. There are other very good tackle shops in NJ but Grumpy’s is on another level & here is why:
- THE very best Business hours of any tackle shop in NJ hands down.
- Grumpy’s always has the shop stocked with all of the best gear. Ray is very observant of the latest gear trends and listens to what fisherman are asking for.
- Custom rod building and rod/reel repair services available a true “one stop shop”.
- Communicates new product arrivals & fishing reports etc on social media. ( also building a sweet website.

Grumpy's is there for anyone interested in fishing, great hours for early risers or if you fish at night(pretty sure they are open 18hrs a day- especially when the fish are active) Employees are educated/ very willing to answer questions no matter if it is your first time out or a seasoned fisherman. Clean well organized, well staffed shop where you can either purchase items or bring equipment in for repairs. There is just one thing I don't understand...why do they call it "Grumpy's" when every time I go in, I see everyone smiling. Got to love it!

So I got finished early today and decided to take a 2 hr and 20 minute ride to go see Ray and the crew at Grumpy's to hook me up with a new rod and reel for my upcoming fishing trip. Not only did he take care of me as he usually does, but the knowledge he possesses and the knowledge that all the people that work there possess is second to none. I drove a total of 5 hours to and from and was glad to do it. I have been going there for 12 years now and there are plenty of places to buy a rod and reel in DE, but you don't get the knowledge and expertise like you do at Grumpy's. So thanks again guys and girls, I appreciate it!

Great place to pick up righing and bait on your way to the shore.

I've been going to Grumpy's since I started surf fishing quite some time ago. Without a doubt, the best tackle shop in the area. The staff is extremely helpful, and there is never any kind of pressure to make a purchase. The shop is very well equipped for all your fishing needs. They also repair reels, and offer custom built surf rods. I've had a few custom rods built by Grumpy's tackle, and the quality is outstanding. A wide selection of 'off the rack' rods are also available for various types of fishing. I live in Pennsylvania, and have no issues driving down to Grumpy's if I'm in the need for surf fishing gear. I know I'm going to find what I'm looking for there, all the while supporting a privately owned business. Whether you're an experienced angler or a newbie looking to get into some saltwater fishing, Grumpy's has the gear that's right for you. Stop in and check them out. You won't be disappointed.

Stopped in at Grumpys this morning to get so supplies. Staff was awesome! Not pushy and had answers for all my questions. I have no experience with surf fishing and they were more than happy to help! Highly recommend this place!!!

Huge bait store on the island. A bit pricey though. Knowable about products. Selection is large for equipment. Bait needs more options like blood worms or kellies. Seems always busy too during the summer. I would rather go here for my needs vs Betty and Nicks. Guys in the store actually care about you and make sure your satisfied.

Had a cheap combo that I caught tons of flounder and blackfish on till the reel eventually gave up. Visited these guys to find a new reel and based on my budget and requirements steered me to a Penn Battle 3 DX reel. Headed to the jetty today and caught a few hard fighting Blackfish. The reel feels so good and comes with a power handle.

There are other tackle shops closer to where I live but I make the hike to Grumpys because I trust that crew as they always put the customer first no matter what level of fishing experience you have.

Excellent service..great friendly people who just want YOU to catch fish and don't mind answering any questions..not GRUMPY people in that shop.. every time I pull in the fish off the surf I'm thankful for the knowledge they gave me
