Peoples Pantry

The Toms River community is fortunate to have such a great pantry for those who need food assistance. Great staff and volunteers here, too.

My experience with the People’s Pantry has been nothing but Good in all respects. Whoever it was that gave it a bad report and said that the food wasn’t any good and made them sick…can’t you tell if food wasn’t any good…If in doubt, throw it out! If not for the food pantry, I would not be eating. Sorry that this person doesn’t appreciate it.

The People's Pantry is a friendly place that serves our community in these hard times. Unlike some other pantries, People's allows you to maintain your dignity. They also don't make you fill out all types of forms. They give you a nice waiting room to sit down...but they're quick! So you will NOT be there ALL DAY! When I'm not able to go myself...my mom can go for me. We sometimes pick upgroceries for a family in my neighborhood..WITH NO HASSLE.

Love going there to get food but sometimes the food has expired so I think they need to check the dates more often but other them there great ....the women who help you shop are very nice so I will see you next week 😊

They got a good thing here!! They're all willing to help, the food is the best from a pantry. Then Soul Kitchen, never had a meal that I didn't like. You wouldn't know it was healthy!! It's amazing. And a great resource center, can make copies and fax for free...

I went there to donate surplus canned goods that I did not need. I found the staff helpful and friendly. The Pantry provides food to those who need it most...a very honorable service.

If you are in need of a hand, this is the place to go. Super friendly and treats you kindly. Thank you for all you do ❤

What a great place. If your out of work and having a hard time getting financing to cover all your needs. This place is a Blessing. The workers are friendly kind and understanding.

I have been going here for the past 4 years, about 6 times a year. In all that time I have never gotten food that was bad.
The set up is 1000% better than any other food bank, as you actually select your own foods, and only take that which you will eat.
Milk is always fresh, never frozen, eggs are fresh (to test your eggs freshness place the uncooked egg into water, if it lays at the bottom it is fresh, stands on its end, still good and fresh tasting, sits in the middle of the water, smell it when you crack it open, smell silver do not use, and if it floats up to the top of the water, it has gone bad).
The meats are frozen, at the grocery store before being donated to extend their shelf life.
The fresh produce is always best used within the week, except potatoes, which have lasted me more than a month, if I remove them from the bag.
Only once did I have a bad experience with a volunteer there, and the next time I saw the woman she actually apologized to me for it. (We all have our good and bad days, I had caught her on a bad day)
They had changed from a walk in anytime to appointments certain days, and I did not know it and came in because while I was moving I had lost a lot of food, and that was the only time I did not select my own food. In the emergency box was a chicken, chopmeat, pasta, potatoes, canned vegtables, chili, beef stew, soup,egga and some apples.
If you need to go to a food bank this is the best one in ocean county to go to. I do recommend that you go here the 'beginning" of your shopping cycle so you can purchase food around the staples you get, and stretch your money further.

I love this place they make you feel at home never nasty well some have their days but sometimes what they have to deal with is out of control but I have my favorites and they know who they are they always have great food better than most food banks i love eileen she is the best person ever and her staff is amazing ive been going for almost 8 years now

Just to follow up with what the one person said about expiration dates. They have nothing to do with the safety of the food. Expiration dates do not mean that the food is spoiled after that date. It just means that the manufacture can not guarantee the nutritional values after that date that are stated on the label. The food is till safe to eat. Google food SELL BY.

They were very kind and generous with all. I got there 1;30pm so much of the good snacks gone but I still got a great amount of GOOD , healthy, Food. Btw nothing was even close to being expired so if it ever was a complaint the issue was early rectified. Many resources available as well as this is not just a good pantry. Housing assistance referrrals to job and resume writing training, utility assistance etc..tax prep. All via literature and referrals done right at thar location. God Bless all who keep this running as it's very much needed im Ocean County as much as any other county.
