Grendel's Coffee House

Great mochas & breakfast bagels. Friendly, professional staff. I highly recommend Grendel's if you find yourself on east Burnside & hungry for breakfast or thirsty for coffee.

I’m a tourist from SC. I ate at Grendel’s every morning during my trip. The food is GREAT, and so are the lattes. I particularly liked the egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches.

Staff is friendly, too.

We were at Portland Tennis Center for a tournament and we wanted to find a place for coffee. We found them on the map and decided to give them a try.
The shop has a welcoming atmosphere. They have some unique flavored coffees that are amazing! Some of the best coffee I've ever had! Go out of your way to give them your business!! 🙂

A very cozy coffee place right close to a few hotels/motels on Burnside. The coffee (simple brew that I always get) was tasty. The best part was the toasted bagel, they really put some attention and effort in making that the best toasted bagel with cream cheese that I've had in a while. Thank you!

I went during off-peak hours and had a great experience with friendly staff. The Mayan Mocha is interesting and delicious of you want to change up your coffee routine, and the humble deli sandwich (which you fill out a paper form to order -- fun 😊) was prepared with care.

I went in October and they went all out on the macabre decorations. But perhaps the most important detail was the shoegaze background music, which sets the tone of the vibe. Do recommend.

Good food and coffee, staff is friendly, and the music selection is wonderful. Warning their horseradish sauce packs a kick, which I happen to like, though it might be a much for most people.

One of the best places to eat breakfast and grab a coffee. The staff here are always so friendly and helpful with the menu. The egg sandwiches are soooo tasty! And they make one of the best London (Grendel's) Fog I've ever had. 12/10 would fly back from NYC to have breakfast here again.

Nice local coffee shop with a variety of sandwiches, some danish, and a friendly vibe. Many of the customers seemed like regulars and were greeted warmly by the baristas.

Stopped by while visiting from NJ and omg they are the best! They have the best coffee and food and staff is so sweet. Would go back to Portland just for Grendel’s!

Very affordable, very good service. Great tea, and coffee. Bagels , sandwiches, and oatmeal to have breakfast. A+++.

I came in today on a rainy day. The workers were kind and chatty. Both drink and food came out quickly and both were delicious. I will definitely be in more :)

Very pleasant coffee shop with friendly employees, unique and tasty specialty coffee drinks, and good breakfast. I had yogurt, which was unsweetened, and the sausage and egg sandwich. The sandwich felt homemade, not greasy and microwaved. Will definitely return next time I'm in town.

This coffee shop is fantastic! The breakfast sandwiches are delicious and customizable, made to order with fresh ingredients. There are rotating coffee specials and fresh baked goods.

A quiet location, with efficient staff who make great coffee. This was a nice relaxed way to start each day of my holiday in Portland - the coffee is properly delicious and the staff know their job without fawning or being sycophantic. A nice, low key coffee shop!

A real coffee house with a lot of charm. Perfect place to start your day. Something you just cant find at the big franchise. Everytime I am in Portland i stop by. Coffee is strong and staff is extremly friendly. A lot of outlets so if you want to charge your laptop or phone this is a good coffee shop to do so.

Even with a packed house the service was great. The cold brew was fantastic and it’s hard to beat at $5 breakfast sandwich.

Probably the best matcha latte I've had. And they've got tables and chairs outside where I can sit with my pup and work.
Obviously Burnside is a very busy street, so the traffic is a little noisy if you're outside. But any place I can bring my dog, even if it is just outside, is a great place in my book.

Such a nice spot! I went with my family and we all got drinks and treats at a reasonable price. The customer service was awesome, I saw one of the staff members run out after someone when they forgot their drink just to give it to them. I ordered a cold brew coffee and I was pleasantly surprised to find COFFEE ICE CUBES?? It's genius, that was the coffee never gets watered down. I would highly recommend this cafe. :D
