Tradewinds Motel Rockaway Beach

I’ve been visiting Neil at the Tradewinds for more years than I can even remember. Longer than 2 husbands and 3 children ;) through the years I’ve seen the improvements and the new ideas Neil has implemented. I always appreciate the cleanliness of the rooms and the availability of the small but very useful kitchenette. Beds are always changed and clean, I’ve never found the rooms to be uncomfortable or unclean.
Wonderful views, friendly service, fair prices for beach front and I always feel safe here too!

Wonderful budget-friendly room with fantastic location and superior customer service by Neil and staff. Very kind to accommodate our work schedule. Beds were clean and comfortable. King room upstairs; kitchen needs supplied and the room had a fantastic view with expansive sunset. Some minor cosmetic flaws if you're particular, but for the price we were satisfied.

Room was clean, looks right out over the beach. The kitchenette had good pans and utensils. Bed was firm but not too firm, extra blankets and pillows are available in the room. The shower was terrific, nice pressure. If you have a problem climbing stairs, request a 1st floor room,the stairs to the second floor are a little bit steep.Have stayed here before, and will stay again. Photos are from the balcony.

My husband and I just spent 10 days here. We LOVE the Tradewinds Motel, the owners, and staff. They all work so hard to ensure that you will have a wonderful time. There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes here. Taking care of any place that is directly on the beach is a huge commitment and under taking. The salt air destroys things so quickly. The owners work so hard to ensure that things are updated, repairs made, and if you have any issues, all you have to do is talk to the owner. The rooms are warm, comfortable, and have everything we need. The beds are very comfortable, the showers are wonderful with there double shower heads and we have never ran out of hot water! TV's are wall mounted with a great picture, furniture is comfortable and in great shape, the balcony's all have a spectacular view and you are a few steps from being on the beach. The Tradewinds Motel has it's own beach access. The rooms smell wonderful as no smoking is allowed in the rooms. We cannot wait to come back! Thank you to Neil and his staff for making our time here so very special and wonderful!

Excellent place to stay! Clean room, steps to the beach and the owner is an amazing guy! We checked in late, right before closing and he gave me the key and said “go watch the sunset before you miss it, I’ll come find you”. We were traveling down the PCH. He gave us advice, told us the best places to stop and even came out to say goodbye when we left. If I’m ever in this area again I will definitely stay here! Wish more places were like this!

What a gem! We are driving down the coast and found this spot to spend the night. Rooms are very clean, beds are comfy and the owner is an absolute gentleman. We’ll be back next time we’re in the area!!

The owner was absolutely amazing. We arrived 9.50pm, 10 minutes before checkout closed after a very last minute decision to visit the coast only to find we had booked for the following night by mistake. The owner sorted it out for us without any issues, when he definitely didn’t have to fix our mistake. He was extremely kind and very friendly. Made what could have been an awful experience, into a wonderful getaway. The rooms were clean and cozy, with all the amenities we needed. Thank you for contributing to a lovely memory! We will definitely be back!

If you are looking for a place with luxury items like room service, spa treatments and a pool, you won't find it here. What you will find is a nice maintained oceanfront property with recent updates like remodeled bathrooms, kitchenettes (not all rooms have kitchenettes though) new carpeting, new furnishings, new tv sets etc. There's no air conditioning, but the winds off the ocean at night cool you off really quickly! The upstairs beach facing rooms have balconies that you can sit on, sip your beer, coffee or whatever drinks you can desire while viewing the gorgeous oceanic horizon! The downstairs beach facing rooms have decks that allow instantaneous access to the beach, and yes you can sit and lounge on those as well. The fireplaces are wood burning and are out of order. I suspect this is due to insurance and liability reasoning as I have family background in insurance policy underwriting. Also the rooms are non smoking. The only issue I have, (and it's not even an issue with this place but it's an issue with beachfront properties in Oregon in general) is a lot of people like to come to the Oregon coast and burn Driftwood on the beach. Burning driftwood smells, but burning Driftwood that has been drenched and is damp with salt water stinks even worse. Be aware of that wherever you go. The place is within easy walking distance of a local restaurant called lakeside hideaway which has killer clam chowder and chef salads, and another place is Dollar general if you need to get last-minute items. My son and I had an excellent stay! Great experience! The room was wonderful and the view amazing. I loved that we could walk right down to the water on a clear, solid path. The building and grounds are very well maintained and the flowers are beautiful. The owner/office attendant takes excellent care of the property. I also left my pillow by accident and they are mailing it back to me (pillow from the chiropractor I can’t sleep without!). We will definitely come back! Thank you for a great time! Gonna book again and bring the extended family next time.

We have stayed here several times. I love the xiew! Right on the beach. Close to shops. The rooms are very clean. The front desk is friendly and helpful.

This place was great to stay and had 3 adjoining rooms for my family. Beautiful ocean views and only 10 stone steps to the ocean. It was perfect to be able to spend time together but also have separate spaces once the doors were shut. The kitchens were very small but great for reheating and even some light cooking. Kitchens had enough bowls, plates, silverware and cups as well as pots and pans but no cookie sheets, so plan to bring one if you need it. The rooms were super clean which was great. Some wear and tear on the rooms such as minor peeling paint and screen door was difficult to open. But overall a great place to stay!

It's nothing fancy, but I didn't need the fancy. Just a beautiful view and a door that opened up right to the beach. It was amazing to wake up and walk the edges of the waves. It was fun to see everything that washed up overnight

We've been coming here for years and I didn't want to share this place with others so I never wrote a review...BUT I will do so now to give a fair account of the place. What I appreciate is that they seem to update the decor every few years: Carpet, bed, adirondacks, bathroom tiling, lamps and T.V. have all upgraded in the past 5 years. Internet access is great once you click on the 'proceed to internet' button after typing in password. Streaming and cable have had no lag. We've never had trouble with noise either. The bed is SUPER comfortable and the place has always felt safe and clean. We love the kitchenette because it makes the trip more affordable.
Is everything perfect? No! Some guests have burned driftwood in the fireplaces (against the posted rules) and as a result, the salt has then eroded the chimney. As we all know, the Pandemic has left the workpool short-handed so it takes awhile to fix. Do you want to ding them for this? Or do you want to handle this with grace? I choose grace because these are some hard-working folk who provide a wonderful getaway experience...and not everything is in within our control...as we've all been reminded of late. Be warned however that Neil, while very patient, will also not tolerate bigotry...which is another bonus to staying here: Your fellow guests aren't lame.

This was a wonderful find. Every other place I called was full and I stumbled across this hotel. It was the best thing that I accidentally found!

I got an oceanfront room at a very reasonable price. It was a suite with a kitchenette that I could then make dinner and save a little bit of money. The young man At the front desk was very knowledgeable about the area and was very helpful.
I truly enjoyed my stay and would absolutely recommend to anybody in the area.

We had a great time here and the owner was so nice. Views from the rooms are fantastic and you can walk right onto the beach.
Can't wait to come back.

Had a great time on a 5-night vacation to the Tradewinds Motel in Rockaway Beach. The beach was a short walk, the room was great and the manager, Neal, was the best. Loved having the kitchen and the balcony with amazing views. Will look forward to returning on our next vacation.

I absolutely LOVE this place! It has become our absolute favorite place to go when we take a trip to the beach!
Our room is always very clean. And during this Covid-Time, I had no doubts that they would go the extra mile to ensure they are very very clean. And they do!
This place is like a hidden treasure! I love opening the sliding glass door and hearing nothing but the ocean. Standing on our deck just feet away from the beach, nothing but ocean for miles.
The beach rarely has many people on it so it is very easy to remain socially distant from others.
But it all starts with Neil. He is just the best. Him and his staff are always friendly and accommodating if we need anything.
This has been my favorite visit so far.....

From the bottom of my heart and soul, I cannot thank you enough for what you did for my boys and myself. Going above and beyond and out of your way when you didn't have to. We are so grateful and we will never forget your compassion and kindness and making us feel worthwhile and welcomed!!

We love this place! The rooms are steps away from the beach! Always clean and staff are polite. If you are looking for a clean place on the beach without many amenities, this is your place.
