A charming escape with sky lanterns! Shifen Old Street is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Taipei. The unique atmosphere of the old street with the train tracks running through it is unlike anything I've ever seen before. The highlight, of course, is releasing sky lanterns, which is a magical experience. I also enjoyed browsing the shops and trying the local food. Overall, a delightful and memorable experience!

Was brought here by our driver after visiting the shifen waterfall as it is very near.
Our driver recommended us to check out the hot air lantern and I'm so glad he did. It was a gorgeous sight seeing the lanterns fly up.
The old street is lined along the side of a railway track. There are shops selling the hot air lantern where you can write your wishes on and the staff will assist you in photo/video taking and lighting it up to fly. There are also food stalls and souvenir shops.
You can light your lantern on the railway track when the train is not using it. And once the train is ready to move everyone runs up onto the street and watches the train pass by in their face.
Would recommend to check this place out for the experience and fun of it

Little town with characters. Just need half day to roam around this town. People or tourist releasing lanterns was the highlight for me. Came during public holiday and it was really packed with people plus at that time they had to close certain outbound route due to a train incident. It took hours for us to leave the town using train. Regardless it was a fun town.

It is a small cluster of shops located beside a disused set of train tracks. People go there to set off lanterns. There is not a really good time to go there, probably at night to get the full effects of the lanterns being launched. We went there in the late afternoon when there were still a lot of people there launching their lanterns. You can go to any shop providing that service, or if you are there with a tour group, your tour guide would probably assist you with that. There is a shop selling roast chicken wings recommended by our tour guide, but we did not ry it because it was not halal.

This place is very cool. Fireworks can be bought along the train tracks and you can set off at the bridge. Make sure you go early to paint your lantern as the area closes up early. Last train is after 8pm, so I suggest your there by 6pm latest time to enjoy the area

Write ur wishes put up a sky lantern! Pray for it to come true!n🇹🇼👏🥰🤩🥳
Watching the train going through the mini tracks with quaint old shops surrounding it’s a work of art and survival! Beautify but too packed and crowded at the same time.

Definitely a must see spot when you visit Taipei.

I didn’t release the lantern however I saw the vibe there it’s amazing.

Do watch the space while u release it. If u are releasing near tree it might stuck and your wishes would burn with will hurt your sentiments. So just be careful while selecting the place.

It’s was 250$ for 4 colours.

This beautiful spot lets you write your wishes on lanterns and release them into the sky, a unique way to send your hopes and dreams upwards. Just be mindful of the active train track running through the middle of the street! Keep an ear out for the horn and stay safe as you enjoy this magical experience.

Quite a nice place to relax, make wishes and perhaps feel hopeful. Also, if you are one of a person who likes to have a little 仪式感, certainly this is the place to visit.

If you stay long enough, could have a close experience with train literally passing you by inches away from you, of course slowly, and with ample warnings from the shop owners.

Sky lantern is the major activity here, plenty options here. Prices do not vary much. There r some snacks and food available around, but without much variety.

I do hope there is a team there to keep the area clean from fallen lanterns, else it is a shame to have the great environment littered with burnt lantern around.

Didn't expect it to be this amazing but Sky Lantern experience on Shifen Old Street to kick off the New Year was the best decision ever. Lots of food & retail shops available on both sides of the train tracks. We got lucky and saw the train pass by during our visit!

Recommend to book the Day trip via Klook for some nice discounts for all activities.

I wasn't able to really check all stores because our travel guide directed us to one already but the whole concept of lantern thingy is such a joy! Such an unforgettable experience. Will definitely go back with my partner.

I usually never go to the first tourist shop but if you are interested in the lantern release, go nowhere than the first shop in the street, right when you can cross the rail.
You'll have the whole background for yourself without any other tourist for you and the lady was ON POINT. So good at taking picture from every angle, she even took picture while taking the video. She was the best !
For food, once you've crossed the rail, continue the street and when it goes up, go to the one on your right side. Very good food for a very cheap price.

I have been here like 3 times in total…but this time is probably the busiest I have experienced! Advance ticket purchase is not needed, the easiest way of getting there would be taking the train from Taipei station to Ruifang and then switched to the local Pingxi line to Shifen. There is luggage storage place at the station at an affordable price, but the station only opens till 8pm, so it’s important to do a little research on train times beforehand. The train schedule is also rather infrequent, so it makes sense to check the schedule in advance.

The old street is packed with multiple vendors and tons of tourists trying to find space to make a wish by releasing a wishing lamp into the skyline. It’s around NT $200(single color)-$NT250(multi-color) for one experience, definitely a worthwhile experience to spend some time to write down your wishes in a traditional way.

We went here from Songshan station (Green line)

Travel time is around 45mins-1hour.
You can ride the TRA or take a bus going to Shifen Old Street.

The cost of Lantern cost 250NTD.
A lot of foods and souvenirs are stalled everywhere so we ate first before flying our lantern.

After eating, we went to the bridge and enjoyed the view of flying lanterns above our head.

Shi fun train station with a hanging bridge traverse over both side of the small traditional village full of snack and souvenirs. The signature is to wrote your wishes on the lanterns and let them float up the sky.
Lanterns are priced at 200nt each and 250 plus for multiple colors. Each color represent a category or wish.

Must see to light and send up your wishes. This place was so remote a long time ago this was a way to let others know they needed help. Now a tourist trap, but fun. Just down the road is the waterfall too. I like the suspension bridges. Watch out for the train and is another way to this place since driving and parking are hard. Try to get a driver, taxi, for the day.

I love this place. Very authentic and the food by the stalls are all delicious. I love the beef braised noodles, the chicken wings stuffed with rice and a lot more. When going to the waterfalls make sure to try the food here.

Came here with the intention of capturing Ghibly scenes and live in that moments. You’ll definitely have lots of beautiful photos here and memories as well. It’s raining quite a bit on the day we came but quickly stopped when we reach to the top so we still can take pictures with clouds and it looks even better. Around here also have restaurants, coffee shops and tea shops for you to buy souvenirs.
