As a cat lover.. i loved this village so much. It was just a few minutes away from shifen.. there a lot of chonky cats in the area and they were very very friendly.. also the cafes up top were cute, had good coffee plus cats 🥹 there are stores that sell treats for the cats if you wish to feed them..

If you are cat lovers, this place shouldn’t be missed.. so many cats willing to be pet and waiting for food. U mag bring or buy cat food there. It was raining but the cats still waiting for food, it’s like they know rain or shine they have to entertain.

Must-visit village on the Pingxi line or direct from Taipei main station on the local train. It isn't as tacky as you'd expect and is actually really cute. Cats are everywhere and everything is cat-themed. The shops sell really creative gifts too. Not ideal for people who have cat allergies though as cats hang out even in restaurants.

Visited at 31 December 2023. It was drizzling, and the wind a little bit strong. Probably 10-12°C. Everywhere you go, you'll see cat ❤. It's 12 PM but only 2 or 3 cafe that open, maybe because of rain. Not much tourist too. Recommended: 217 cafe, the food was good, kind host, and you also can buy cat souvenir to support local shop.
PS: many dry food scattered around the village, but you may need prepare some cat snack first to attract the cat 😊. Available at local shop, or you can bring it from home.

Good place to visit if you’re a cat lover. You can also visit a museum for an old coal mine. Recommend to come early in the morning and after finishing the walk go to Jiufen old street for an afternoon walk and lunch there. Check the weather before coming to the area though as it often rains around here.

Went on a day where the cats were extremely active, friendly, plentiful, and affectionate! The previous time I came here, I didn't see much cats, but this time round made up for it. Didn't have to get any treats to be welcomed by them. Some cats are still skittish, so while visiting you should still be alert and respectful of their body language.

I love this place. I played with almost all cats. The cats are mostly tame. Just bring some mud/jelly stickas for them, you can enjoy sit among them. 100% free tickets. Just take local train from Taipei Main station to Houtong only around 50NTD one trip

Went for the cats, stayed for the scenery and historical site. The cat village side was a bit underwhelming for me personally because I didn't intend to feed the cats nor go to a cafe. There were quite a lot of cute cats though :)

Then the other side of the village was surprising! It featured an elaborate air-conditioned (huge plus) exhibition with artefacts of the coal mining history of Houtong.

It was a pretty fun experience. It was raining so the cats where huddled around the town. Lots of shops and places to eat. The cats were pretty cute. You can buy churu to give the cats for 100$ for 4 sticks

Cats everywhere!! Super friendly and chill cats as long as you respect their space. If you sit peacefully enough, some might come and sit in your lap. They sell little food bits and cat treats to entice the cats as well as a ton of cute cat merch. They have cafes and coffeeshops further up the village but honestly alot of them are pretty expensive and didnt seem that worth it. Groundfloor shops were decently priced and also had more cats heh.

The cat village was really nice. There are definitely plenty of cats and cat-themed products to buy.
It is a good spot to spend a few hours and then carry on to another location like Jiufen or Shifen.

A paradise for cat lovers. The cats here are wild cats but they are friendly. We came on a rainy day so just a few cats around. More tourist than cats seen. Haha

Nice Small village. A must if you are a cat lover. We saw an average of 50 cats within 30mins there.

There are alot in the courtyard opposite the train station if you drop there.

Walk across to the cafes so that you can enjoy a cup of coffee with the cats inside the cafes.

Just becareful when you open the doors as the cats inside may run out.

Most owners discourage that.

If cats are your poison, then you won't give this place a miss!!! I visited after 5.30 p.m. on a rainy day, but yet, I was able to meet the cute kitties and feed them. The place itself is filled with so much positive energy. The staff at the station were also quite helpful even though they weren't able to communicate properly in English. This is an offbeat place that is not on the list of most of the tourists, but if you're a cat lover, a visit Houton Cat Village should top your list!!!

Came here while it was raining but was still lucky to see many cats! The cats are well loved and taken care of. Most of the cafes have their own resident cats too. If you love cats, definitely stop by here at least once and support the local shops!

Was a bit skeptical about the number of cats before I arrived due to lackluster google reviews. However I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer number of cats and cat related things. Tip: look at a crowd of people in a random spot. You will likely find a cat there.

The pedestrian overhead bridge itself has cat ears! Once you cross the bridge, follow cat paw prints to discover the area. Some areas are quite dilapidated but don’t let that stop you from exploring!

There are some restaurants for you to grab a bite too. Overall a great place for cat lovers meow

We went there in the evening when everything was closing so definitely different vibe, but still great one. Loads of cats everywhere, great views, definitely worth visiting.

Beautiful river, lots of cats, and a lovely little neighborhood. This is also a cole mine exhibition.
