Beautiful trail with amazing view on top. 5.6km on way, the first 4km is just purely going up in the shade while the last 1.6km is purely stairs. Quite windy but hot on the top. Long hike also (it took us 5.5h in total for 2 ways), so bring food, snacks and lots of water (you can get more water at the church)

May take 5hours or more to climb round way, the weather is cool in January and has not rained fortunately. The landscape is extremely amazing, fascinating destination. Green world and catholic attractions. Highly recommended to visit. Bring water and warm clothes ~

Was raining when we got here.
It's a long trail, elevation picks up a little more after 3km. Be prepared for this section.
We didn't get to see the awesome view, was misty up there.
Restrooms are available mid way.

Started my hike at 8am and reached the Sacred Mother Hut at 9.30am. Its a safe vertical hike with no obstacles. Wore my 550 nb sneakers but was able to climb without slipping. Thank God for the weather and clear skies. Tried to continue to the peak and climbed using the ropes but was too scared to encounter snakes and other animals so I gave up. Encounter many friendly aunties and uncles. 🥰

When I started, I met a Grandpa near the church at the bottom and said bye thinking he would take his time to hike. When I reached the top, I saw him right behind me. 😅 He told me he is the 庄主 of the mountain/church? and he hikes almost everyday.... Respect

a pair of shoes that fits and handles slippery muddy surfaces well is necessary if the matcha cones at the peak is your goal. i don't exercise at all and struggled to catch my breath, wondering how i'd get back down in my sneakers, throughout the last 1.6km up (a pair of cheap gloves proved helpful later for slippery downward-sloping steps)

from wufengqi parking to the peak, this is the approximate time i took: 0845 - 1125; return: 1140 - 1410

the locals are super friendly with fellow hikers. they use poles for support and recommend it (although i saw a couple of chirpy, seemingly featherlight boys who casually bounced their way up and down completely unfazed by the elevation/ground condition. they even dressed like they're running in summer and carried absolutely nothing). i saw recommendations for bringing a good amount (1.5l) of water online but i didn't and wouldn't - i only drank about 200 - 300ml throughout since it was winter and perspiration was minimal

Awesome and challenging trail. You'll hate yourself for doing it, but it will be all worth it once you get to the top. It has beautiful views of the Yilan plains. You can see the valley and green the mountains extending all the way to the horizon towards the north and east. The tail has parts where it's very muddy and slippery. It is recommended to wear good shoes or hiking boots. Hiking poles always help, but I've seen many people doing fine without them. I can very hot. A hat and enough water will help. It was the hardest hike I've done so far in Yilan. If you're moderately fit, you'll do just fine. I'll definitely go again to try to improve my time doing the trail. And there is also another trail that starts at the top that seems to offer more amazing views.

From the road below the church this is around a 6 hr hike. I'd consider this moderate to hard for persons not used to hiking on hilly terrain. It is basically an ascent all the way with the final stretch to the peak being mainly on stairs cut into the hillside, initially through the jungle then through more open terrain before reaching the top. Hiking sticks/ poles strongly recommended for stability and to ease the stress on the knees. It was very warm when we started the hike but at the peak it was windy, foggy and drizzly. Took my wife and I 6.5hrs (we are in our mid 50s and are city slickers from Singapore where we have barely anything that qualifies as a true hill). Definitely a worthwhile hike for that view at the end. Don't do this trail if you are unfit or have lower limb osteoarthritis!

5k one way. First 3.4 K are wide agriculture type of road. Gently uphill with some shades. Pleasant walk. Last 1.6k is straight up with stairs in between. Along with stream and water. Nice and beautiful. It can get slippery. Towards to top the view opens up. It become short bamboo meadow field. It’s almost like walking at the ridge line. Not easy hike, moderate. If you are in good shape, it’s great, if you don’t exercise regularly, it can be very tough. View on top is absolutely amazing. Layers and layers of mountain that’s what the Taiwan about. Highly recommended. We walk with 5 years old, it took 5 hours back and forth.

One of the great hiking trails in Taiwan. Need to clim lots of stairs. A bit windy on the hilltop, better to bring a windproof jacket and some food. I’ll definitely visit there again.

This place is amazing. Small chapel, a little too modernised for a church with legacy but still a good place to see. There's a visitor book for you to write a short prayer. Too bad it was filled up and I didn't get to write mine. The church is only a little walk from the start of the trail. The real hike probably starts from the church itself. Hike further if you have the ability. You're gonna hate yourself for a bit for even doing it but when you get up there, the breathtaking views would probably thank your initial resistance.

I’m a hiking beginner and I think overall it’s a good hiking experience. Views are awesome and facilities-wised I think is enough for the majority. Suggest to wear proper shoes bcz it’s really muddy and slippery.
