A worthwhile experience. Two hours in sulphate water baths definitely makes you feel stronger. As you can see from my photos, it’s a little imposing. The place is packed with older Chinese people; just chilling out (excuse the pun) I was the only foreigner there.

Lovely place, amazing scenes, Japanese influence is obvious. The library is gorgeous. The food was amazing. A short hike to enjoy the views and a very hot spring to see on the way. Had a lovely time here.

The place is open to the public and you can pay to buy a swim wear if you didn’t bring one. It's a small place and secluded. Definitely a must try place in Taiwan.

I’m shocked at all the previous reviews at this place for peoples negativity.
As guests in this country, being a tourist in taiwan, just follow the rules and what you’re told as a tourist to do.
This hot spring was a great experience, and I myself am a white foreigner.
It costs 60ntd ($3) for the entry ticket and 20k ($1) for a locker. It’s so cheap, can’t complain.
Yes, like previous posts, I also got in trouble for wearing the wrong type of swimming shorts, but I acted calm, and the employee was very kind about the situation. They have swimwear for sale to match their clothing policy, costed me 290ntd ($14) for a pair of shorts.
So considering the whole experience only costed me $17, I can’t complain.
The water starts at 45degree in the top section and each pool gets colder as it goes down. There is also a cold spa to sit in.
Individual private showers available separated by gender.
I will also point out that I was by far the you best patron here, being 29yo, I would say the majority of patrons are Taiwanese elderly. I was the only Caucasian here at the time.
They do close for 30min intervals throughout the day, so be careful of that and don’t enter just before a closing interval.

Proper Swimwear required, they will not let you in without them and beach swimming trunks aren't allowed. Short or long leg speedos only for men.

Very nice though.

Nice place for a warm/hot dip to relax the stress and toxins away. Great for your skin. Acid hit springs ♨. The cool water isn't cold enough during the spring and summer months, but the hit water is very 🥵!

My favourite hot springs.
Be aware when visiting that you must have a head covering such as a material hair cap and that your swimmers must be made of swimming materials. No quick dry board shorts for example. There will be some available for purchase if you don’t have them.
Protocol is to wash throughly before getting into the bathes, then wash you feet before entering each pool, each time.
Hottest pools at the top and gradually cooler towards the base.

I loved visiting the hot spring! It was an amazing experience and it was relaxing and quite fun to try out the different temperatures. I had such a good time and even went twice!!

To what some other reviews address: do make sure that you don’t arrive just before a cleaning break. Showers are cold, but I really didn’t mind I had just spent half an hour in a hot spring. Swimwear is strict, for women a simple bathing suit is perfect, men more Speedo type shorts (they’re the same price there as most other stores). And yes, you might be one of a few foreigners there (December), but what do you expect when you travel somewhere else. Everyone, including staff, was super courteous and nice :))

This is my absolute favorite place in Taipei and you should 100% get your friends to come with you!!

First some technical advice:
- entry is 30 NTD
- bring a lot of water, you’ll need it!
- bring a towel to dry
- you can shower there so you might as well take some soap with you
- you need a bathing cap (or random cap 🧢) to enter the cold pool (prob. 20 NTD there)
- for men: you need a special “hot spring” bathing suit. You can also buy it there
- for women: old men could be staring

Now let me try to describe it for you. (No pictures attached as it is prohibited 🚫 ).

You arrive in this magical place and stumble upon a series of constantly fuming pools, all connected with each other and looking like they were inspired by an unknown gloomy magical type anime. Showers and changing spaces are old, but functional. After changing into your bathing suit, you plunge yourself in one of the pools. The hottest ones are the ones on the top, where the temperature can reach 45/46 degrees. The lower the pool, the cooler the water.
People are relaxing, seamlessly chatting with each other and counting the adventures, or problems, they encountered since the last time they saw each other. Some older people sit outside, rhythmically hitting their legs, arms or back to smoothen their blood flow, while scouting the hot springs for lost tourists they can make fun of 😂.
An old men exits the upper pool. His whole body is red as a shrimp as he probably spent the last 10min boiling in the 45 degree pool. Beware! Do not try this yourself as you will probably faint before reaching 5 min! These people are trained professionals, as some of these old rascals come here at least 4 times a week.

The shrimp man then goes on and plunges his hot body into the cold pool, situated near the stairs. The cold water cools his skin, his body, and lastly his mind. He’ll stay there, happily chatting with whomever wants to talk, until he’ll start shivering and repeat the whole process.

It’s truly a magical place with very sweet people who’ll gladly help you improve your Chinese ;)

Hope this review can convince you to try this place out!

Thank you for a really beautiful day. The water is lovely, clean and everybody was nice and helpful.
The bad reviews from tourists are embarassing and mean. If you don't like experiencinh something you are not used to, you probably shouldn't travel!

The Beitou Hot Spring (or Xinbeitou Hot Spring) you’ll definitely want to visit if you’re spending winter in Taipei, there are enough fascinating cultural and historic sights at this Taipei hot springs to warrant a visit in any season. Beitou Hot Springs are located at Xinbeitou MRT station. You’ll have to get to Beitou station first on the red MRT line, then transfer onto the 2-stop pink line to reach Xinbeitou. Beitou is the only metro-accessible hot spring in Taiwan. Beitou Thermal Valley (also called Beitou Geothermal Valley or Hell Valley) is a second, highly acidic “green sulfur” hot spring that is a major tourist attraction in Beitou and the source of the hot creek running through Beitou Hot Spring Park. The spring water is high in radium, which in the past underwent a corrosive reaction with the andesite rocks on the river bed about 150 meters downstream, creating layers of cream and white diamond-shaped crystals named Hokutolite or “Beitou stone”, the only mineral in the world to be named after a region of Taiwan.

You will need tight fitting shorts as a man - board shorts won't work but they are very open about that and offer cheap options to buy. Worth a visit

Very good experience for 80 pence.
Hot and cold plunge pools. The water has some healing minerals you feel fantastic after.

Great place with a local vibe. Visited March 19th.
1. I wasn't asked any single question when entering. Just tapped easy card and went inside.
2. Yes they require modest dress code. The shop is available by the entrance (around 500 for lady swimsuit). Locals actually follow it and even half of men wearing caps. There were foreigners with opened minimal bright bikinis, they stayed 1h+ and no one told anything to them.
3. Place is crowded with local elderly, staff doesn't speak English, but I think it's great that there's a possibility to enjoy hot springs for 60twd (1.8€). If you need privacy and elegant style - plenty of hotels around.
4. No one is staring at foreigners, even girls with bikinis. Some people are talking loudly, but there are no more other inconveniences.
5. Bath temperature is the hotest on the top, and goes down to bottom, showers are cold but it's exactly what you need when exiting hot salty bath. Don't plan to be showering and washing body and hair there. Shower cabins are for quick change of clothes.

Recent updates, Oct 2023.
Payment is by Easycard at the entrance, no more payment by cash.
They will check your swim wear before you enter.
If you wish to soak in the cold pool, you have to wear a swim cap.
They have installed a new water dispenser. That's a huge plus.
I work in Taipei and come here every Friday.

What to bring:
Towel, swim cap
Swim wear, no beach shorts
Slippers for the toilet.
Easycard for payment.
A bottle of water .

Summer 2021 - They have upgraded their shower cubicles and added a shade for the lower level pools as it would get really sunny in the summer. Toilets used to be smell of urine a mile away- now it's much cleaner -no more smells.

Other than that, everything remains very much the same. 60NTD for adult, students and elderly half price.Entrance fee is minimal compared to what you'll have to pay at the resorts nearby. that fee is for a session of 2.5 hrs. Check schedule (photo uploaded) to plan your trip. You can pay cash or with easycard.

I'll always drop by each time I'm in Taipei. It's a short walk from the Xinbeitou Metro station. There is a clear map in the station and along the way. It's well signposted and you can always ask someone on the street. Show a photo of the place if you can't speak Mandarin.

They have four pools of hot springs of different temperature and 2 cold water pool. Always shower and wash your feet before getting into any pools. They are quite particular about cleanliness.
If you have hair touch your shoulder you must tie it up or risk being shouted at.

There is a locker for your stuff. The lockers only works with coins you can change with the person selling tickets.
Oh you must bring your own swim suit or buy from them. Bikinis are allowed
Beach shorts for men aren't allowed. You'll need tight fighting spandex shorts or Speedo. You also need to swim cap now. They sell swim wear for men and ladies. Their selection might not suit your taste. And you don't want to waste your time and trip there.
There are shower cubicles, bring your own toiletries.

Go early and avoid weekends
Its a tourist attraction it gets too crowded. After the dip you can walk around the area lots to see and eat. Tryout Taiwanese beef noodles - most stalls do it well. Most restaurants in Taiwan are good I haven't had any bad experiences eating there for the last four years

Very nice and relaxing public hot springs. The price is very affordable with three pool with different hot temperatures and two pool with cold water: these 2 are the most important ones and you should cycle between each pool starting from the bottom also follow the spring etiquette to fully enjoy and feel like brand new one done!

The pools have different temperature, so everyone can go there. Mostly Taiwan people, all friendly and helpful.
Note: only tight swimming shorts are allowed. Women has to have one body suit. Not separate pieces. If you don't have as shorts, you can by there for around 200 Taiwan dollars.

Bring swimming cloths and swimming hat which they allow. You can easily find the info on the Internet. It's hot springs and also cold water place together. Recommend to bring your towel, and some coins - 20 NTD for lockers. Entrance fee is very affordable: 60 NTD (kids for 30 NTD).

Too interesting a public hot spring. Even though I did not go in. Man the crowd was real! While walking we could see the inside of the public hot spring with so many people! Luckily they weren’t naked haha! But I’m sure everyone inside is enjoying themselves.

I recommend for those who does not want to do a public hot spring. Many hotel offer hour rate hot spring and it’s quite worth it.
