A Refreshing Escape from the City

Qingtiangang Grassland is a must-visit! Rolling green hills, fresh mountain air, and a chance to see grazing water buffalo create a peaceful, picturesque scene. Whether you're looking for a relaxing walk or a more challenging hike nearby, this is the perfect nature break near Taipei.

Tips:
* Weekdays are less crowded.
* Weather can change quickly during winter – bring layers.
* Respect the wildlife, especially the buffalo.

The view here is breathtaking and spectacular, especially during golden hour. I would say it’s one of the most romantic scenes that I’ve ever seen during my lifetime. Moreover, it’s hard to believe that you can reach such a paradise costing just an hour of driving from the city.
However, there might be a long line waiting during the weekend. I suggest to park further away at 冷水坑parking lot and then take a transfer bus. It’ll be a lot faster!! Also, the public transportation is a great alternative, you can take a bus from 劍潭 MRT station directly. Anyway, bring a picnic mat with you would be a even better idea!

Absolutely beautiful place, I could spend hours here walking the trails. We went on a Friday and it still took around 15 minutes to enter the parking lot - we had to wait for other cars to exit before the parking lot attendant lets the next car in. Can't imagine how busy it would be in a weekend. Tons of people lining up at the bus stop as well. There is an overflow parking lot but it is a long walk to the grassland, maybe 20 minutes at least. Recommend going early. Not to be missed!

A calm and nice place to have an easy walk. You are lucky you might see some buffalos. Most of the time the place is cloudy. But on a sunny day it's very beautiful. Inclusive for children as well.

Also the place is beautiful during the sunset or even after sunset.

Very beautiful and easy hike. Views are very good for photos and to enjoy while walking. Access is via public buses or you can drive too. Very easy to get here with small local buses. Just check with the driver as some buses diver their route. The place is very well maintained, very cleaned, and good quality of the paths. There's also wc facilities

So worth your morning time. Highly recommend going anytime before 10am because buses get crowded and after 10am the morning mist goes and it’s not as epic . Temperature is also very nice. Takes 1 hour to loop.

We had an excellent time there. It was a bit hard to reach the place with public transportation. We took a mini us from Jiantan MRT which was packed solid, so we stood for the 40- minute ride bring poked in the ribs by other passengers. It was worth it as the grasslands are a beautiful place. The visitor center had a very informative set of displays in Chinese and English. They're are no paper maps so you need to take a picture of the trails. If you don't have much time there is a circular trail which is flat and easy, right in front of the visitor center. For the trails, walk past a temple and a monumental gate. The trail system starts after the gate. We saw a lot of water buffalo up close, closer than we wanted even! As they were right in the middle of the trail, we went around the best we could. The scenery is fantastic there. Even in dry weather, the steps were very slippery in the wooded parts that don't see much sun, so be careful. I had good traction trail running shoes and yet I almost flipped s few times. The locals all had trekking poles.

It was a great small trail ! I didn’t have much time and could do the full trail in about 1h while taking photos and relaxing. It was nice to see buffaloes.
To get there and come back, i took the 小15 minibus. It was crowded and had to stand for 45 mins both ways.
I don’t think it’s the right mean of transportation during weekends as it was like this on a week day.

Amazing place to visit tricky commute with the bus and knowing how to get there. On the way back we got a shared taxi which was very convenient compared to the bus queue and system (a bit hard to follow). The place itself is amazing, we did a small lunch picnic with 7/11 food we got with us, some wine would have added to the vibe even more 😛.

Highly suggest checking the weather and making sure it doesn’t rain. A lot of different paths to take. There’s a path that goes down to a small waterfall, I would just skip it. Path is uneven and can be rough. Going down all those stairs is easy, but coming back up is a pain especially if it’s hot and humid. You will find some bison along some of other paths while hiking up the mountains.

Amazing place. I always like to go there for picnic 🧺 and for relaxing. I feel like I’m somewhere in the mountain around. Feel nice and free. It’s like mountain adopt you in it’s womb.

it's my 3rd time visiting this amazing place ..it's better to have ur own car or motorcycle because it's a bit far from the city and commuting is a bit hassle but nonetheless it's worth it...i'll definitely go back

This place must go and have a very nice view, but need to ensure the nice weather, else only see mist. Morning time to early afternoon is better. If use public transport, can direct going there from MRT jiantan (R15 剑潭)by taking small 15 (小15) number bus.

On 25 Dec 2023, even though it was the coldest day of my trip in Taiwan, I still visited the famous grassland on Yangmingshan. If I visit Taiwan in summer or autumn, I would have stayed on the grassland longer because I could have enjoyed the gentle breeze instead of the prolonged strong winds.

Very beautiful park. There is an easy walk trail. If you prefer a longer route up in the mountains, there's also a route for that.

For the easy walk, take the Qingtiangang circular trail. Half of it is walking on the grassland, the other half is walking on the stone steps. I think it is better to just walk in the grassland back and forth instead of taking the whole circular trail.

Getting here by bus S15 from Jintian mrt station.

I got there through public transportation which is a little bit challenging but okay nonetheless. It was a shock to us that the temperature dropped to 9 degrees in what was supposed to be a forecasted warm afternoon. It’s beautiful and worth-visiting. If you are visiting Taipei, this one should be part of your plans.
