Laomei Green Reef is located on the North Coast near the Laomei Community in Shimen District. Every April and May after the northeast monsoons die down, algae covers the neat rows of stone troughs here with a vibrant green, creating a rare and spectacular sight. As the weather warms, the seaweed gradually disappears with exposure to the sun.

I read online that the green reef is starting to turn vibrant, and I checked the tide schedule on the government website, which shows low tide at 2:50 PM on February 20th. The driving directions are straightforward; just follow the signs, and there's a parking lot nearby charging $60 TWD on weekdays and $100 TWD on weekends. There are a couple of vendors selling sausage and the locally famous Gelidium drink. Beach access is right after the vendors, and in my opinion, the green reef looks better on the lighthouse side. It also appears that there's a trail access from the lighthouse. Remember not to step on the green reef as they are very fragile.

Such a gorgeous and unique spot. The view is so worth the trip. I think the pictures speak for themselves. We went during the month of September, so there wasn’t the pictureque mist over the rocks. Fun nonetheless! Lots of little critters and fish all over the place.

It’s hard to catch an uber from here though - if you have trouble finding a car, try going to the Fuji Fishing Port and catching one from there.

Another note: apply lots of sunscreen. We went during the middle of the day and a few of us got super sunburnt.

My once in a life time escapade featuring this beach landscape. A little cloudy but a perfectly good timing that I came here at the right time. It's low tide and the green reef is showing it's unique wonders. Very nice feeling to just walk by the bay and enjoy the sound of the waves. The breeze relaxes the body and revives the spirit. Would love to come back👍👍👍
Rocks are mostly submerged when it's high tide. The rock appearance depends on the season and time of the day that you come to visit.

Very well conserved, clean, unpolluted. I really love nature the way it is. It just feels good to enjoy the beauteous of nature, to feel the summer breeze and witness the creation of God. I’m definitely coming back for a swim next time! 😎

Beautiful serene place to visit, almost magical. Algae growing on top of the lavaesque rocks that seem to have slithers like the waves because they’ve been carved through and smoothed over by centuries of waves upon waves. Doesn’t seem very impressive until you approach the reef up close but be sure NOT to step on them to preserve their lifetime (and preventing slipping and getting yourself hurt). You can walk the long stretch of beach and enjoy the scenery and go round up to the path again. Nearby are bathroom, brick wall maze, lighthouse, walking paths, a small free parking lot (and larger paid parking lot near the seafood restaurants at the harbor), and plenty of seafood restaurants. Lovely place for at least half a day trip. Kids will enjoy open space and beach.

The reef turns green from Mid-April to early May, and you may need to come here during flood tides for the best photo opportunities. This is not a big place and it’s sort of in the middle of nowhere. Recommended only when you are a photo enthusiast.

If you love to take a nature photograph, the stones with the green reefs here were beautiful. It's better to go in earlier morning to get more beautiful capture. Don't forget to release your stress here with playing and jumping in the sands 😉😉😉

This is also worth visiting for a natural green reef near the seaside of the "Laomei" area. There is not much of the green reef, but there are still visible green reefs available. Definitely recommended for visit.

Worth visiting. Be careful on the reef, slippery in some spots. Great for a short walk. Bring a hat and sunscreen in the summer. Paid parking and public toilets nearby. You might find free roadside parking on the main road on a quiet day.

Brilliant!
Green reef is very beautiful between March and May every year.
Take MRT to Tamsui Station, then take bus 862, 863, 865, 867, 877, or 892 to Laomei station. Walk about 5 minutes then you will see this beautiful view!
Enjoy the sunshine, beach, and this special landscape!

The endless sea with the covered green reef provides awesome view for everyone. So many crab comes after sunset. Best place to sit and enjoy the sunset and sunrise.

When I visited this site, there were very less people so it felt tranquil and relaxing. Went during hot summer. Blue sky, blue sea. Let go of my heels and walked bare feet on the sand... Simply beautiful!

What a lovely beachfront with a very unusual stone formation (see my photos) but be carefull of low tide, when occean receded it uncovers the the slippery stone which covers with wet seeweeds. So take care.

Very unique and beautiful coastal landscape. We went in winter which is not the best season to visit but still get to see the greens on the marine erosion landform. Just satisfying to see the boundless sea and sky.

Beautiful sight. Might be a little bit overcrowded during the peak hours. There is a free parking nearby. Easily reachable by a car or scooter.
