I've been here maybe 5 or 6 times via scooter, car, and bicycle. Always worth the stop for a great view. Some good lunchbox and some novelty items. Personally I highly recommend the tree tomato drinks and wasabi powder.

Coffee shops, donuts, 便當, and a really yummy 烤肉店 up top. Lots of quaint souvenir shops and plenty of food vendors on weekends. This place has charm and is fun to explore… on a regular weekend. During holidays it is an absolute zoo! Best to reserve seats in the Alishan express ahead of time otherwise it is standing room only in the trains going up. Don’t miss the older lower old street. Not many shops but it’s peaceful and there’s a nice short bamboo forest trail you can follow up from the end of it back to the upper old street.

beautiful place! The train track can get packed but many people take photos and leave so others have a chance! Be considerate since everyone wants to take photos.

Lots of shops to buy food, drinks, keychains, soap etc! I’d recommend to walk around and try lots of different items! You can buy souvenirs there as well!

Hiking is also available as well. There signs to tell you how far it is and lots of different trails.

Parking: difficult! Come before 10:45 and you should be able to find parking.

Pretty small old street compared to Jiu Fen up north. You could tour this place in an hour. The highlights are the Bento set 🍱, I recommend getting the pork set as it’s really fragrant and tasty!

Perfect Taiwanese Lao Jie. Sweet delights, cooling and refreshing drinks. You have to come here to experience a narrow traditional old street. I can highly recommend the Bento just off the Main Street down some steps. Called Alishan 101 I think.

Suitable stop for those coming from Alishan back to Chiayi. We bought more souvenirs and goodies here than in Alishan.

We took the alishan express from chiayi station to fenqihu. It is an old street similar to jiufen at taipei. It is relatively small, do recommend at least 1 hour at that area. The lockers (NT$60/3hours)at the train stations are very useful and are usually fully taken up especially when you arrive by train and waiting for ur transiting transport to either alishan or to chiayi.
Famous for their donuts, highly recommend the stall at the inner part of the street(see photos), the donut w the maple sugar is nice, pls eat when warm/ fresh.
We also tried the 树番茄汁 which is a speciality of fenqihu. It has a nice guava taste w a hint of pomegranate? Hard to describe the taste but it was good and refreshing.

Awesome little spot with some great shops near the railroad station. Ate at this little place and it was good. Try the doughnut vendor if you can.

PSA I did not actually alight the bus and explore as it was raining and getting late but leaving this photo of the map I took at the bus stop very recently on December 2023 for anyone to reference if you’re planning to visit.

This place is famous for their train bento rice set. It is a very traditional lunch set that you must try if you are here. There are also a variety of other foods ranging from cronut, mochi, sausage and etc. A must visit if you are here.

Train stop on the way to the top
of Alishan. Lots of shops with local products like the famous wasabi peanuts or wasabi sauce. Some restaurants over there with reasonable price. Ice cream and sweet other desserts available Some merchandising shops there also a 7-11.

lovely place to walk around for a couple hours if you're not going trekking! i had really good kuehs from a stall here and the pork chop bento from one of the eating places was to die for (sorry idk the names, will add photos later if i rmb). the iced aiyu with brown sugar slush was great too. the donuts are apparently really good too, but the stall i wanted to get from wasn't open yet so didn't get to try. bought a bag of rice crackers as a souvenir too. it's a really nice place away from the city, would come back here again for a trek.

Got to this small touristy town via the alishan forest train.
Old Street littered with shops and restaurants like a small version of jiu fen. We ate the bento from the restaurant at fenqihu hotel, was not too bad (but not exceptional). Tomato juice from one of the stalls tasted good (from a non-tomato lover). Some cafes offer a nice outdoor seating to sip your coffee while enjoying the view (can be slightly pricey though).
There are a number of steps in this town and you can either go up through the stairs from the train station or go up a steep slope to the bus stop to catch the bus to alishan.
