I never expected to find such a beautiful dining place with such good food halfway up the mountain.

The fresh, cool air and the smell of delicious food in the open with natural lighting and surroundings are indescribable.

The vegetarian pizza and the margarita pizza were amazing! The red wine steamed rice came with stewed beef that melted in your mouth. Meat platter had a barbecued fragrance that I could not stop eating. The handmade bread was so popular that it flew off the shelves once it came out of the oven. I only managed to try the few slices that came with the meat platter. The photos do not do justice.

Everyone should try and make a trip up here to experience this!

What a great place- you would think you are in the middle of nowhere, but then there's this gem surrounded by beautiful nature.

Apart from REALLY good a la carte items, they also have a bakery and other homemade morsels in the adjacent store. The garlic bread is soft, fluffy and uses a bunch of real garlic, the raisin bread is my favorite with a crust that you will have a hard time to find elsewhere in Taiwan, when you knock on the bottom of the bread it makes the most beautiful sound of a perfectly baked loaf, also the "original flavor" longish bread is very tasty and goes very well with some salted butter.

The main dishes are bigger than expected but we finished all of them anyway because it was SO good, perfectly seasoned and with fresh ingredients. The salad dressing together with the thinly sliced cucumber reminded me a bit of Greek Tzatziki (which I like) and together with the melon it has a very interesting and tasty twist, very refreshing and with lots of herbs.

The pumpkin soup is served piping hot as it should be, with a smooth mouth feel and profound flavor.

The grilled veggies with some tasty chili oil and cheese on top of some hearty, creamy polenta/couscous was fantastic, too.

All dishes are beautifully presented, so it's also a feast for the eyes.

The pickled kumquat from the store is so nice, not too sweet, refreshing and healthy.

Make sure to bring enough cash so that You can try out everything, as prices are on the higher side.

Service is swift and very friendly.

In every case, definitely worth a visit- or actually more than one.

We have heard about this place for awhile and finally had a chance to visit. Really enjoyed Hanna’s bread, crispy skin, soft airy center without too much sweetness and coconut oil flavor which taints many Taiwanese bakeries. blending local flavors with western presentations and a tale about the union of South African lady with Taiwanese aboriginal man makes this an unique enjoyable destination.

The food is so flavorful. Besides ,the chili sauce tastes extremely rich and zesty.
I strongly suggest other customers to choose a normal day come and visit this restaurant so you can enjoy the food in a more comfortable way.If you are only free on weekends or holidays, morning is the best choice, cause some food and bread will be quickly sold out after 2:00 pm.

To Hana,
Thank you Hana .You make my day !

If you ever happen to venture into the deep mountains of Alishan and come to the village of Laiji, stop here and enjoy a great lunch!

Interesting story about the founder: Owner Hanna is a South African woman who “got lost in the mountains” and married an indigenous man from the Laiji tribe. Although the cuisine isn’t indigenous food, she uses local ingredients from the surrounding area. Mainly Western dishes, but very fresh, including the handmade bread. The restaurant has beautiful decor and it faces the Alishan River and a pedestrian suspension bridge.

A amazing wonderment in the mountains, this was a wonderful surprise. It’s located along a rushing river with a view of all the mountains and a suspension bridge. The food is all high quality, local ingredients, perfectly put together, and the service was friendly and efficient. This has become one of our top 5 restaurants in Taiwan. Plus spectacular artisanal loaves of bread to go.

The vibe of restaurant was excellent but didn’t have time to wait for a table so got take out. Everything tasted so fresh and worth the price. Milk tea was mostly milk - wish there were more tea flavor that’s about it.

For the uninitiated, Ms. Hana is a South African lady who married a Taiwanese and settled in Alishan. The restaurant has a mix of S African and aborigine cuisine with locally grown produce. The fruit tea is huge, as is the meat platter, S Africa platter and pizza. Make sure you reserve ahead as the queue is impossible. Also be prepared for a long drive into the mountains - but a treat awaits for those who venture forth.

One of the best experience I ever have in Taiwan, be surrounded by the trees and mountains. The shop owner if from South Africa, so if you try their BBQ you will feel the infusion of both sides. Highly recommended!!

The meat plate and vegetable plate are wonderful! Everything is flash and tasty I can hardly believe we could have this great food in this beautiful Mountain view so far away from city. Highest recommendation to the oven-baked bread and pizza. Nice place worthwhile to go.

I mean, we waited over an hour to be seated and another hour for our food and I'm still rating it 5 stars, so that should tell you something. This is WORTH an extra drive. This is WORTH a wait (especially with friends because this food is great group sharing food!). We live in Taichung, and this would be a great restaurant for Taichung. So for the middle of the mountains, it's FANTASTIC. Highly recommend the platters (meat and fruit/bread) as well as the seasonal salad. The pizza was definitely good, but not as exciting as the other things, especially for the pizza price. I think the pizza sauce needs a little more flavor (more sweetness and definitely saltiness, especially since they don't use much cheese so it ends up lacking a little punch. It still gets nice flavor from the wood oven, though). The fruit tea was also great, but don't forget to stir in the sugar! Overall, the location, the mountain backdrop, the rustic decor and food presentation, and the quality of the food make this dining experience a big win!
