If you are into history, especially the military one, you should visit this fort. It was built at the end of XIX century and looks strikingly modern and European for that period of time in China. Apparently it was a German engineer responsible for the construction. The gun was armed with some impressive German and British cannons. Combined ticket with Santo Domingo cost mere 80
TWD and it is open on Mondays when museums in Taipei are closed.

I really enjoyed this historic location between Tamsui and Fisherman's Wharf in Taipei. This is a really well preserved fort and was well worth the uphill walk to reach it. I was rewarded afterwards by a great cup of coffee and good food at 'Love Coffee' next door. It was a bonus that the ticket I bought at Fort San Domingo also gave me access to the fort here at Hobe.

Fascinating part of Taiwan history. Well preserved and everything open to the public. There is a TWD80 entrance fee but this also covers access to Fort San Domingo and other historical attractions in area.

On the hillside above Tamsui river. On the way to the golf course and Cloud Gate Theatre. Lovely old fort used to protect Tamsui in days gone by. A hidden fort sunk in the ground but sporting long range guns that can reach up to 11km distances. Nearby parking is available or it’s a short walk from either cloud gate or the riverside. Worth a visit and not as busy as I’d expected. Access is also free to Tamsui residents when showing your ARC card or a small entrance price gains access for non residents

Friendly and welcoming staff. Interesting place for a quick visit if you’re in the area. Kids love the interactive activity even though they had no clue about the answers.

There's a walking path from Fisherman Wharf to Hobe Fort. It's a stroll up a short slope to the shrine, quiet and calm woth lots of old trees and two Red Silk Cotton trees - blossoming in Spring. Beautiful crimsons.
There's quite a crowd in the morning when the weather is good, i.e. not raining.
People come here to play croquet.
I bring my dog here for a run.

Unfortunately it was raining, but a woman in charge of this historic site gently explained in English. 謝謝

You can purchase one ticket to visit several different locations. Hobe Fort is now a peaceful historical site with trees on the top of the facility. There are several buses to reach this site if you don't want to walk too far.

This is a small Fort, designed to attack boats coming from the sea, it is quite small but I really liked it has interactive games to submerge the visitor into the place 😉

For some reason, I really like Huwei Fort. It is a rather ugly, but historically significant building with a wonderful courtyard full of wax apple trees.

Perfectly preserved fort (that never saw any military action). Head here instead of the tacky 'attractions' near the river.
