Absolutely amazing! What a cool experience this was! You can go down into this underground city & see the different tunnels & caverns. And the family who own the business are truly lovely & so kind. I highly recommend checking this out!

Cappadocia is full of underground cities. This is one of the ones open to public. It was discovered in 1972 by a local farmer. The farmer was curious about where all the excess water from watering his crops were accumulating. He started digging and discovered an underground room. Later a full scale excavation revealed a whole city which could house 60,000 people for up to three months. Although only four floors are now open, the complex contains a total of ten floors, to a depth of 40 m.

A portion of series of underground city. It was rather a small settlement but great to see such a great display of old craftsman and even splendid efforts by Turkish authorities for preserving it and opening it for tourism. Loved to visit it

An exceptional place, I a really glad that I visited and walk on this underground city. The tunnels were small at some times and challenging to navigate so if you have knee problems you can only walk on the easy ones.

This tunnel is accessible while telling an interesting story. It would have been too congested for enemy troops to enter in their numbers and while bearing weapons. The creators would have been real innovative to have crafted such a fortress also with a separate port of escape.

Super cool walking through caves used in the Bronze Age! This was one of many underground 'villages'. The shop outside the entrance is run by the man who discovered them. Guide helps to understand what rooms were used for.

One of the largest cave settlements in Cappadocia.
With many levels, and with sophisticated duct systems.
We can assume it appeared in Roman times, allowing local Christians to sit out the persecution and siege.
Some part of that cave-city was devastated. We can see its far exits just after the local rural suburb to the South.

Great place and amazing insight to usage of environment for living arrangements. Great place to explore and learn. Some places are a right fit so claustrophobic prone individuals shouldn't go.

Great place! This is worth while visiting, much less crowded than the others, calm atmosphere, large rooms, 4 floors open of 10, totally 40 m deep. We met the man who discovered the city in 1972. He had interesting stories to tell. The city contains a unique pipe system reaching each of its levels. It has water well, winery and moving millstone doors.
I didn't spend much time down there, I preferred to feel my feet on the ground. This area could have been better marked and informed. A bus driver gave us a hint of the place. There is a shop of high quality regional products and souvenirs and cafe. Admission 10 TL.

If you love history and are intrigued by the how’s and why’s this is place for you. Do take a guide along to know in details about the caves. They will hep you see things that you might moss otherwise.

I was truly impressed by these caves, amazed at what human kind could achieve with very little at hand.

Please note: some of the passage ways are small and need you to bend or crawl. If you have any fear of closed spaces, or are uncomfortable with bending your back/knew and walking, please avoid.

Utterly fascinating. How could people manage to live in these tiny places, the passages were so low and narrow. Really an unforgettable experience
