A blast to the not so distant past. A lot of information, photos and preserved equipment all within the original processing facility. Come and appreciate what the olden times were like - hard and laborious and quite lucky we no longer are required to take advantage of another species of this unique spec of a place we call Earth.

The museum impressively shows how whale hunting was carried out in the past and how the catches were then processed in the factory. It reflects an important part of the history of the Azores, even if it may seem disturbing by today's standards. A visit to the museum should therefore not be missed on any trip to the Azores if you not only want to see the tourist hotspots, but also actually want to learn something about the country, its people and culture. When I was there last week and there was nothing going on in the museum, I was lucky that the museum attendant almost let me enjoy a private tour. I actually only wanted to ask him a quick question about the whalers' boats and the sperm whales, but he then took plenty of time to explain lots of interesting things to me and my family using the exhibits and answering my other questions. His passion for sharing Azorean history was clear to see - a museum thrives on inspiring people like this. I could probably have listened to him for a few more hours. Thank you very much, I would be delighted to come back! Greetings from Germany, but not from the city that doesn't actually exist! :)

This museum was fantastic! Cost 2 euros to get in but worth more! Amazing insight on how they used to hunt and process Sperm whales. All the equipment in the factory is still there and intact. Probably my favorite museum of the island.

It's interesting to visit but sad at the same moment, i newer new that exists such kind of production, poor animals, it's good that this was finished in Açores many years ago, it's better to see cachalots in nature. Free entrance on Sunday.

Kids friendly and guided tours for better understanding.
Check opening times in advance.

Surprisingly interesting. Very well curated. It really looks like they just cleaned and repainted after the last day of operation on this site. Very recommendable

Great museum to learn about the history of the whaling industry in Faial. The museum is housed in the former processing factory and has a lot of the equipment in place. Entrance fee is a reasonable €2.

Nice little museum that shows all the whaling machines in their original state. Costs €2 and takes a half hour to visit. Definitely worth it while near.

The place is fascinating although the video of whales being slaughtered is a bit sad

I loved the museum, it's an awesome depiction of the work and the workers at the time in that place. I loved the scenario inside, the machines and the dim light wore awesome for some pictures I took, just awesome place.

Gives a real insight to the semi-artesenal whale hunting and processing where nothing went to waste and where man's will and skill was all that was used to catch these beautiful creatures.

The welcoming staff will let you in a building where an old factory for the industrial process of transforming the whales’ bones and oils in all sorts of products, used to be running. This factory was closed in the 1980’s but some the machinery used in these processes are still there today and give you a close up on how these products were produced. The staff is helpful and will answer your questions and help you understand the importance of these products for Pico island’s economy and exportation.

Insider tip: Please also go to Museu dos Baleeiros, they definitely complement each other.

Museum about a whale processing factory, honest story, old machines still in place. Gives a good idea of the whaling back in the day. It is an essential part of Açorian history.

One of the most mesmerizing and authentic museums related to the whaling industries in the archipelago. Museum of the Whaling Industry in São Roque do Pico is place you must stop in your trip to Pico. Remember you are visiting one of the most successful factories of whaling transformation, and the last one to close in the Azores! They've kept the original inside of the building, so with a bit of imagination, you're actually time travelling.
