Easy access airport with a small cafe, rental car stations, and tourist information booth. Everything is under one roof. Outside there is a bus stop and a taxi area. This is a very small airport with few daily flights and limited bus service, so during off-season (roughly November-March) you might have to secure a taxi in advance (the information booth can help you).

The only airport on the island, it's around 10km to Madalena, they have a bus but it leaves 10am and 2.55pm otherwise it's a 2 hour walk along the coast, taxi, or rent a car. I did the walk along the coast and it was worth it.

I remember when the airport was built. I have gone back every few years and I am amazed how big it has turned everytime I go back. Every year looks like it has been upgraded. Love going back home!! The view from the island is breathe taking. It has been a few years since I have been back, but it would be nice to have more duty free stores inside.I wish there would direct flights from where I live so wouldn't have to have have long layovers on other island to b able to get to Pico island.

The airport on Pico is situated 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) from the urban center of Madalena, at an altitude of 34 metres (112 ft) above sea level. It is divided between the two civil parishes of Bandeiras and Santa Luzia on the northern coast of the island, located along the regional E.R.1-1ª roadway between Madalena and São Roque do Pico.
Managed by SATA Gestão de Aeródromos, it has an 1,754 metres (5,755 ft) operational runway (oriented 09/27), with a width of 45 metres (148 ft). The runway is illuminated and can handle evening flight operations (although rare), using VFR or IFR flight rules, while approximation instruments are based on PI locators. The installation of an ILS system was adjudicated around 2010.

at the last minute at check in I asked for the myway service for people with reduced mobility. they were very kind, they arranged a wheelchair, an escort both on and off the plane. extremely well organized service and friendly and patient assistants. Would 100% recommend
