Lagoa do Cerro

The entrance to the lake is difficult to find, but the walk, once you're there is a short and easy 150m. In the route from Angra do Heroísmo to Altares you will find some run down small construction to your left and immediately after a road (to the left too, see picture) You can identify it because there's a fence to a property on your right once you are on the road. The road itself turns from greyish to bright red. Unfortunately, I can't give further directions, but I believe that if you pay attention there are marks. I know you continue, hit a wall, turn left. And then, at some point, right. Sorry for that! A local guided me there and barely made it out!

Like the others said, it’s hard to find. I parked a few minutes north up the road from where google directions end (38.759328, -27.278057). There’s a small mud road there with lots of space to park. Walk just a minute down that mud road and you’ll find a barbed wire fence marked with a flag. Turn left and follow the trail flags 15 minutes to the lake. Don’t cross any fences or enter the pasture.

The lake is amazing, the downside is that the road isn't well identified, the trick to finding it is to follow the principal road that connects Angra do Heroísmo and Altares, and look for a green graffiti in a wall that says "Lagoa do Cerro" near a old ruins. The road is mostly red soil, you should follow it and turn right in the first opportunity, you will see the hiking signs!

Sla af bij bordje nummer 10 vanaf de hoofdweg de rode weg op. Rij ongeveer 1 kilometer rechtdoor en dan kom je bij de eerste afslag naar rechts. Sla daar rechts af en je komt bij het meer. Super mooi!
