MadMarket Restaurante

Booked online after seeing the menu outside the shopping centre. The decor and ambience is lovely and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The food was perfect, all very tasty. We shared a meat and cheese board and mussels to start. We then had a main meal each....chicken, steak, squid all amazing! We also shared a couple of desserts. The drink and wine variety is extensive and the staff are more than happy to explain everything! The best meal we've had in madeira!!!

Definitely one of the best place to try grilled squid in Madeira. Generous side salad and very tasty. You will find also vegetarian options.

Desserts - wasn’t my favorite but maybe It was a wrong choice.

A hidden gem in the heart of Funchal. (Can be a bit hard to find as it's inside a small shopping centre.) If you're looking for fast food, you may want to go elsewhere, but if you want excellent and interesting Portuguese dishes cooked from scratch, served by a staff who are helpful, friendly, and funny, this is the place for you. Plenty of selection for both carnivores and vegans. Good, hearty dishes that won't break your wallet. And a special shout out to the lime pie!

Hands down the best restaurant we visited in Funchal. Great food, great wine and beer selection and friendly and helpful service. It was so good, that we returned there for a second visit.

The absolute best thing on their menu is the Black Scabbard Fish. It is really well prepared and everyone who tried it was really impressed. It was really, really delicious, and I don’t normally like fish.

We also had, over the two dinners there, Portuguese Steak, Braised Tuna, Octopus “Micaelense” style. They were all really good and we can truly recommend all of them. They all come with great sides, either a fresh salad with iceberg and mango or boiled vegetables (xuxu, carrots, broccoli).

From the appetisers, we tried the Sauteed Shrimps and Octopus Vinaigrette and the Cheese board. While they were okay, I would not consider them a highlight on the menu.

The appetiser that truly stood out was the “Alheira” scrambled eggs. It was a really interesting dish, not what I expected at all, but had a unique taste and texture and was a great addition to the dinner.

There is also a great selection of local craft beers.

We cannot recommend this place enough. When visiting Funchal, it should definitely be on your must-visit list!

We had a unique experience at this restaurant which serves a variety local food. The staff was professional and nice while the serving was outstanding. You can also pick whatever bottle of wine you wish from a pretty amazing collection of wines!
We chose octopus, codfish and the portuguese steak. Excellent choices, everything fresh, Kid friendliness and good value for money.

A quirky restaurant in a spacious shop!! We loved finding this unique restaurant the 1st night we had the place almost to ourselves but on our return midweek it was very busy. Staff were great but pushed to the limit in terms of numbers..they needed at least another waiter/ waitress & a welcoming host! The food was lovely, the drinks with no listings other than via a Q R code were copious in choice...but pricey. Its here the money is made! The staff are very knowledgeable about their wines!!Even drinking water was charged which in all Portuguese restaurants is common but sad practice. If you arrive after 7.30pm expect to wait but as a fabulous experience it's worth it.

The food was incredibly tasty and the service was great! :)

We had a charcuterie and cheese board to start (still dreaming about that pineapple jam), followed by tuna and some black scabbard fish for the main. It was so good, I would absolutely have it again!

We also ordered house wine and were given two different options to try so we could choose one we liked better (it's small things like this that make it even better).

I know the location seems weird, but once you are there, you completely forget that you are in a mall. Instead you are surrounded by shelves and shelves of Portuguese wine ('cosy' doesn't do the justice) :)

The hidden gem in Funchal!

The Food was outstanding and the staff was very welcoming.

We had red and white house vine as well as braised tuna, espada maracuja abd a starter. Everything was spot on and we also could taste two different house wines before choosing one.

The prices were reasonable and all in all we had a good time!

Upper flor in the shopping center . Modern design restaurant, good service. From one side you will not regret it ,from another it will not blow your mind…We had a grilled octopus as a main dish and octopus as a side. It was prepared as it should be. Sometimes food or place will make you to feel some emotions , in this case it was properly prepared food, without any emotions…

Very very tasty!
I ordered the tuna and the octopus and they both come with sides and salads and boiled vegetables.
The portions are big and they come very warm.

Unequivocally one of the best Portuguese restaurants on the island. It was so good that I forgot to take pictures, but I'll update this review when I go next time.

I forgot the name, but some incredible vegetable dish of eggplant + courgette + cheese
Black scabbard fish
Chicken in coriander sauce

Kids loved it just as much as the adults did. We'll definitely be back!

Hidden gem!! If you want to have an amazing dining experience, enjoy a perfect meal and be looked after so well- you have to visit this gorgeous place! Within 5 days in Madeira , I have been here a 3 times- definitely worthy! Many thanks to Anabel, Mara and Roberto for doing such a great job and sharing their food knowledge .

Me and my partner ate here a couple times during our trip and the food was yummy every time. One time my partner’s tuna was a bit overcooked but they immediately made a new portion which was perfect.

I was searching for restaurants on Google maps I am so glad I found this restaurant. It's a bit hidden in a shipping mall but it is so worth going there. The food was delicious - the best I've eaten on the whole island. The ambience of the restaurant is also special - there are tables among wine cabinets. It is also reasonably priced. Also the desserts were delicious too.

I had to eat here twice as there were so many delicious things on the menu to choose from. The location is a bit hidden in the mall but once you are in there its very cozy.

We had an amazing dining experience at MadMarket Restaurant in Funchal! We discovered this place on Google Maps, and when we arrived, we were impressed by the ambiance, decor, and the friendly staff.

The star of the show was the food – we ordered 'Moqueca de Tofu' and 'Caril de Grão' and they were both absolutely delicious. The meal was so satisfying that we didn't even order dessert.

In addition, we found a bottle of Port wine in the restaurant that isn't available at our usual grocery stores, which made us quite happy. We were delighted with the quality of both the food and the wine. The service was surprisingly fast, even though we went for a late lunch.

We can't find anything negative to say about our experience. It was a delightful culinary adventure, and we highly recommend MadMarket Restaurant to anyone visiting Funchal!
