Great garden. It used to have in past some few exotics birds but they are now not available anymore. The gardens are a must see. Multiple area very peaceful and romantic. Can see rare and interesting plants. Very well maintained. There is also the starts of the cable car to monte, a bar terrace and a small museum with zoology and natural items.

Beautiful garden accessible by bus, car/taxi or cable cars from Funchal. Worthwhile to spend a few hours, lunch options available. Cable car malfunctioned during our visit, and we had to find alternative transportation, we were lucky that a cab showed up

Lovely, tranquil place to spend some time. Beautiful displays and was quiet when we visited (January) but I suspect it gets very busy in the summer! Highly recommended though...👍

What a beautiful place to hang out. I took a bottle of wine and a book. Amazing views of the harbour and the valley. Well manicured and managed. A lovely marine collection too. A bargain and well worth a visit. Would be awesome if they had a monthly or annual card so that I could afford to visit more often. Thank you for this piece of peace and tranquility 🌴♥

Although the Madeira is one big botanical garden we fighly recommend. It is not only place to see botanical richness of the island but also a great viewpoint.
If you're up for a challenge you can walk there from city center but it is not something for a weak heart and feet.

The island of Madeira is choc full of amazing places to visit. Close to the
old town quarter is the cable car station that will transport you half way up the mountain behind the town to the beautifully designed layouts of the botanic gardens The location affords you stunning views of funchal below and the sea beyond. There is a great cafe. A fantastic place for either walking around marvelling at the beautiful floral displays or just sitting enjoying the tranquil peace and quite of it all. Can get very busy at weekends especially. There is also a hair raising local bus journey from Funchal up to the gardens.

It's a lovely botanical gardens if this is up your street check it out. Only ten euros in a taxi from the city, same on the return. Nice cafe. Check out the banana trees!

A really enjoyable place to walk around, with some fantastic flowers and plants on display. It is very hilly (as with most things on Madeira!), but worth it. I bought the combi ticket (both cable cars plus Botanical Garden) which I thought was good value for money.

More of a gardener's place than the one at the top of the venicular. Definitely worth a visit..although the condition of the stuffed birds in the Natural history museum required a good degree of imagination😄.

A fantastic garden up in the hills of Funchal. There was so much variety and plenty of room to spread out. I particularly enjoyed the cactus plants, the turtles and those views. Quite tricky to get around if your mobility isn't good. We bought a ticket which includes the cable car to Monte. The cafe was delightful with good prices and great views.

Found this on our 5th visit to Funchal. Been to Monte Palace Gardens a couple of times but never got round to visiting the Botanical Garden. As beautiful as MPG but in a unique way. Great views of the harbour and many relaxing places to sit and watch the world go by. Will go again 100%.

Very nice and diverse botanical garden, go there to see all the cacti trees and flowers and plants from all over the world. You can spend a couple of hours just wandering around the garden. There are plenty of signs so the chance of getting lost there are slim to none

Absolutely beautiful! Take the cable car, don’t walk like we did 😂 stop at the cafe for a croissant, poncha, views, and maybe a meet and greet with the garden cats!

Amazing flora, amazing views. Not stroller friendly though, if you’re travelling with a baby/toddler, don’t forget to bring a carrier. The bar serves mean banana milkshake!

A really nice visit is the Botanical Garden. You will see some koi fishes, nice flowers, kind of old tile gallery, a magnificent stone and Chrystal museum and much more.

The entrance with 12,5€ is high but price is it abdd so absolutely acceptable.

I truly recommend Botanic Garden! One of the must see places in Madeira. We were in the first week of February.
Range variety of different plants not only from Madeira.

Brilliant Gardens with loads of great view over the city. It has quite a few different rooms and environments and apparently has the largest collection of tropical plants in Europe. I particularly liked the cactus/succulent garden and the palm lawn (which has a large pool full of ninja turtles). There's a wee cafe and museum, but minimum spend is 15 Euros if you have a card - bring cash! A pretty good botanical garden all in.

One of the must visit places in Funchal. There are some car parking places nearby. No need to panic about it.
