Pingo Doce supermarket

A fairly large supermarket, offering a much greater range of food, drinks, groceries etc compared to the many small Spa-type convenience stores scattered around the town.
And the prices are lower too.
Hot roast chicken, and occasionally some other hot takeaway food, is great if you want a hot meal but don't want to cook or go to a restaurant

An excellent supermarket for everything you could need. A superb selection of fish, meat, cheese and baked goods. Competitive price and a full range of everything we needed.

Here you can find everything you need, good price-value ratio and great deals. The employees are nice, the store is clean. I really liked it.

Make sure when you visit to go around the corner to the barracuda bar great food and lovely wine and staff are excellent

Good prices and great ready meals

A very well stocked supermarket with a wide assortment of items at very good prices. As has already been said it's the equivalent of Lidl in terms of value. Well worth the walk to get there, came away with a bag full of provisions for not a lot of money.

If you visit this supermarket be sure to have some food and a few drinks at the barracuda bar, nicest people run this place great food lovely atmosphere.

Very good - and considerably larger (and so a very wide range of goods for choice) than it's frontage suggests. Off Rua do Gargulho, under a big hotel.

Cracking supermarket near resort hotels like the vidamar serving the local and tourist populations. Seems good value with prices similar to or lower than the UK. We used it extensively for lunches. Note there is a useful delicatessen at the far back of the shop, near where the bread is located. This sells hot prepared meals etc

Best supermarket chain, found this one in Lido area of Madeira. Great prices, they sell fab fruit and veg...everything you need. Fishmongers, butchers, bakery, lunch choices. Would give six stars if poss', Didn't shop anywhere else, we love it.

This store is literally Funchal’s version of Lidl. I am glad that we found this gem of a grocery store while we was away on holiday/vacation.

Close to hotels around the cruise port. Very good prices. Huge selection.

Our local when we're on the island. Stocks just about all the food (and wine!) that you need for your apartment. Note, these supermarkets DON'T stock clothing unlike most British supermarkets. Always clean and most of the staff can speak some English and are helpful.
