Mozambi

We have had an absolutely fabulous evening. Our host hosted to the mostest and explained every dish in great detail, and all of his recommendations were excellent. I have to join the rest of the guests on here to praise the crab curry (beautiful delicate flavour with lovely flaked almond rice and orange/carrot salad). We only intended to pop in for a main course, but ended up having four (!!) and do not regret a second of it because every course was delicious. Can't wait to visit again! Thank you for having us ♥

Incredible flavours and ambiance. Got the piri piri shrimp and quails to start, and for mains we got the crab curry and the monkfish + shrimp rice. The photos speak for themselves, we licked everything clean 😂

If you are in Alvor, it's a MUST try!

The starter prawns were amazing. The sauce was brilliant. Got a lot of crab meat with the curry and had great taste. The sweet and sour sauce with the chicken was delicious. Only thing is you can expect to be on local time and might have to wait a bit for your meal. The chicken quality could have been a bit better as was a bit dry. Funky interior and family run restaurant. Good to mix it up from what's on offer elsewhere. Great value for money.

Our new favorite. Garlic mushrooms to start. Go easy on the hot sauce. Vegetable curry and countryman steak and mushroom sauce. Decadently good. Plus house wine. Everything was superb. We will definitely be back.
The decor is awesome. Like a gift shop or museum. Really loved the lamps. Huge outside terrace for when the weather is better.
Kitchen opens everyday at 13:00. But during slow times the front doors may be locked. If you want to eat before 18:00 you should call ahead and they will be waiting for you.
This is probably the best place for vegetarian options in the whole Alvor, Portimão, Praia da Rocha área, at least from what we have observed since October.

Mozambi is a fantastic dining spot that offers an unforgettable culinary experience. Our meal was exceptional, featuring perfectly cooked shrimp and a delicious curry crab that was bursting with flavor. The service was equally impressive—attentive, friendly, and efficient. We highly recommend Mozambi for anyone looking for great seafood and top-notch hospitality.

Highly recommend the garlic piri piri prawns!! So delicious, me and my husband said they were the best flavouring prawns we've ever tried.
We also had the crab curry dish with rice and a refreshing carrot and orange salad on the side which was all lovely. Portion was enormous though and we really struggled towards the end.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and so much effort has been put into it.
The owner is very passionate about his restaurant and made sure all customers in the restaurant were happy. He took time out to explain the dishes and the best way of eating them for the fullest flavours.
I recommend trying this place if you are spontaneous in your food choices and want to try something new.

Dining tips from the owner that elevated the taste to another level.

1. Don’t drown the rice in curry, eat them separately
2. Keep the clay pot lids on to preserve the warmth
3. Have the orange carrot salad in between for freshness
4. Enjoy the meal!

Learned a bit about Mozambique 🇲🇿 from the owner:
1. Former colony of Portugal for almost 500 years (1498–1975)
2. A lot of trading with India
3. Mozambique cuisine is influenced by the Portuguese, the Indian and the Chinese

Go there and follow the recommendations: we had prawns and garlic mushrooms for starters and the famous crab curry as a main dish. Excellent taste, very friendly owner, exotic ambiente.

A lovely little restaurant with very nice African decorations. I decided to try the crab curry as it was recommended by other reviewers, and I can add to that. Amazing food and staff!

One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been in. The restaurant owner will attend you with a kind smile and advice you on every dish, 10 out of 10 service. The food: crab curry and picanha are two must. Best picanha I’ve ever eaten, and the crab is simply unforgettable.
I would have never thought on going to an African restaurant on my Portuguese holidays. But I couldn’t be happier I’ve gone

Where shall i start?
The place was very well decorated. When you visit a foreign cuisine place you usually see ovelwelmed areas with all kinds of staff. This place was the first that alla the staff in there was perfectly positioned. Made you feel that you enter a museum.

The food... oh my god! Please have the crab curry... please! a dish one of a kind perfectly served with sweet salad and rice.

The people... a family that made you feel like home. The old gentleman took time to explain to us how to taste his food and he was very polite and friendly. The lady who took our order made great suggestions and we left the place full and happy.

I would definitely go back and if only it could deliver in Greece!

We had the shrimp cocktail and the crab curry and it was Exceptional! Wonderful host explained the proper way to eat our dinner and to get the most at out it. Great atmosphere and music. Highly recommend!

We came for the bacalhau and it was good 😋 the owner suggested us the caril the caranguejo and it was the best caril ever 👌👌👌 you must come. You feel you are eating homemade food in a family home. Highly recommend

Delighted that we added a new Alvor restaurant to our repertoire, Mario at Mozambi is a character and offers a great little dining experience (he's the good looking lad on the right). Our party of 6 had shrimp for starters and the crab curry for main course. 😁👌

In the center of Alvor, you will find this local gem called Mozambi. If you go for a calm and relaxed dinner this is the place. Not overpriced and with a great vibe and cozy environment with lots of decoration from Africa roots, you will feel great. They have also a tv playing some Sinatra/jazz that gives you that tchill vibe. From the friendly staff to the great food, if you are in Alvor this is one of the places you must go. Everything was good, but the Crab Curry was really different and good. Don't forget to try their Oranges from Algarve, they are great. I cannot give other evaluation than 5*'s.

Great place to spend an evening in good company with background music and the sound of running water from the beautiful fountain. The broth from the shrimp was something incredible wow we wanted to take that home. Definitely need to dip your bread into it.

What an experience! As soon as you enter Mozambi, it is as if you have stepped foot into another country. The restaurant's decor is beautiful and offers its customers the atmosphere of the Mozambican culture.
The food is at a phenomenal level with Portuguese cuisine and other Mozambique-specific dishes such as the delicious crab curry. I have nothing to point out other than positive aspects - portions are also big and worth your money.
They also have a TV where they showcase live concert music according to the client's taste.
A true 5 star service and staff friendliness. I will be back without a doubt!

Beautiful restaurant both inside and out. Very tasty food with excellent portion sizes. I had the fried shrimp for starters, the crab curry for mains and the homemade chocolate cake for dessert and thoroughly enjoyed each course! The cherry on top is that the family running the business are super hospitable and friendly. Best meal in Portugal so far!

What a find having passed this restaurant for years and never been in. Wonderful food and what a lovely host. Fully recommended. We were there for 6 hours.
