One of the main features of the restaurant is the setting, with a view on the beach and the sea. The restaurant was a bit more expensive than what we were used to see in Portugal but the fish was absolutely fresh and the waiter would bring it to you to show it and for you to choose. Extremely good, suggested for lunch if you are staying on the beach next to it!!

Good quality food in an impressive setting, views to a super beautiful sea. They take their time to serve your food, but the waiting is definitely worthy. I just hoped they had a bit less tables. The place was a bit packed and noisy, but overall an excellent experience. You can book your table in advance to ensure you get your chance to try this bit of paradise.

Absolute gem , so happy we made the trip along the coast to this restrauant, somewhere I’ve wanted to do for a long time! The service was first class and the food excellent, we went for the prawn cocktail starter and the sea bream which didn’t disappoint, the fish was from the catch of the day , delicate soft white fish absolutely delicious!
Certainly worth booking as this restaurant is one the Portuguese know about and now everyone else is finding it !

Amazing location! best spot for a restaurant I have ever seen. Need to book ahead but if you do you get the best experience. The food was amazing and came out really fast. The service was fantastic and overall every one was super helpful and friendly. It was a tight squeeze though so not very baby friendly. They had one high chair but it was occupied.

It was our first time at this restaurant. From the moment we were greated and showed to our table to the end of our meal, I could not fail the service, attention to my guests and I, quality and taste of our dishes. Simply the best restaurant I've visited so far in Algarve. Will definitely visit again. Highly recommended to gourmands and people who can patiently wait for their fresh food to be cooked in front of their eyes ☝

5 star views, we only had drinks though so cannot comment on the food. We had no issues with the service as some reviewers have mentioned, but we did come at an off time

A truely unique dinning experience, Andre guided us through the dishes he had. Delicious, served with pride in a very special location.
Well worth a visit!

It's one of my favourite places to go—a hidden gem. The atmosphere is fantastic. If you stay at the Prainha Clube hotel, I would recommend you visit Caniço - it's a lovely walk down the beach in the mornings. They play great music during the day, which mainly serves typical food - but does it well. Don't be frustrated by wait times; they can get busy. Just have another drink whilst you wait and enjoy the music and the outstanding views of the beach, the sea and the rocks. I love the way it's built into the cliff edge. Sometimes, in the evenings, they have a DJ and a light show against the cliff face, again a great vibe.

I've read the recent reviews and maybe because it was a slow day, I cannot confirm the negative experiences some previous visitors had. Really friendly staff, very helpful and patient when recommending the dishes. The food was great, tasty, we had fish and seafood, made really classy. Yes, expensive, but hey, the spot and view are worth the extra money. Really pleasant experience.

apart from fresh fish, Canico serves meat and 4 vegan dishes such as Tahine, paella, risotto and mushroom crepe.

Prices of the main courses range from 13.50 - 26 euros.

The service is friendly, but has to work too hard. And too often take the stairs because the bar is downstairs and the kitchen upstairs. Logistically a challenge! At least 1 waitress should be added, mr manager!

We start with a nice white wine.

Next comes bread with olive oil and salt.

As the main course, paella (13.50). What a beautiful and delicious paella! We lived in Barcelona for 2 years, but this one is at least as good as the original Spanish paella! Highly recommended!

As a side we have a beautiful colourful salad (4.20) and boiled Portuguese potatoes (3.50).

For dessert we have the drunken pear (4.50) with cinnamon and a delicious Port. Yummy!

The decor is simple but beautiful.

A unique small restaurant/ beach club with good service, great views and delicious food for a fair price! Many beach clubs can take an example from that!!!

Highly recommended

Had a wonderful, fun experience with my wife & daughter..menu was a little tricky given the beautiful fresh fish was priced by the Kg, but chef was very helpful, and patient. We were given the best seat and sereved really well by all staff. Guinness, on draft would have been icing to the night, maybe next time. Abrigado

Fresh seafood nice and friendly staff
This is a luxury restaurant so is the view and the price. I loved the risotto, the shrimp and fish were the catch of the day and also tasty. What I didn't like was that they brought the appetizers themselves but charged us (although the price was OK, it's not right to bring something that appears on the house and then charge for it)
The olive oil was great so we also bought two bottles right away
All in all it was a great experience 👍👍

Fantastic experience at Caniço. We had to book in advance to ensure you get a table at the restaurant. The experience is grande as we see the fresh catch of the day and receive suggestions on how they recommend preparing the food, plus if it's enough or too much. Super friendly and welcoming. Would definitely go back again.

One of my favorite restaurants in the Algarve. Seafood and fish are very fresh. The dishes are made from local products and are made respecting and making the star element shine. The service is very personalised I will come back and recommend.

Wonderful little place on the beach built into a cave. The food is good and fresh, though not mind blowing, but it is tasty. If you’re looking for exceptional/unique food don’t go there, but if you want some very good food in a great location with a good ambience and very friendly service, come here! Good for groups! And they have a few vegan dishes too, yay.

Came here for lunch twice. The location is unbeatable with spectacular views of the rocks, ocean and beach. The black spaghetti with prawns and clams is very good. The staff is not particularly warm or friendly but we didn't mind so much as the atmosphere and food was the focus for us.

Phenomenal view. It is tucked in to the seaside cliff using an elevator to get part of the way down. Food was okay, but not Michelin star since 2019.

Great service and experience. Fish frenzy. This is not your typical beach bar. Best after 7pm. Do book.

Sandwiched between two cliffs and the view does not disappoint. We knew we were in for a treat as we entered the elevator to take us down to the tunnel leading to the restaurant. We had just finished a 2 hour kayak on the ocean to explore the caves and read about this place in a travel magazine. The lad allowed us to go given the middle of the afternoon (otherwise you will need reservations as it mainly serves the resort) We sat in the lower tier, view was ok but suddenly the second floor was opened and so we scrambled up and secured seats with a better view. We started off with mojitos which were delicious and fresh. Bread, olives and a variety of salads arrived for us to nibble on. I opted for figs, prosciutto and goat cheese, my brother had the grilled calamari and my sister-in-law enjoyed a non fish meal which completely slipped my mind. The food was so fresh and delicious, and the million dollar view just added to the taste and overall experience. We are living the dream folks!

I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE HIGHLY ENOUGH!! Do yourself a favour and please go there for dinner. Seriously.

(I have lived in Portugal for over a year and coming from hospitality management myself, sadly I have to say the level of customer service in this country is average at best)

The staff at Caniço exceeded all expectations!!! Firstly, they squeezed in my last minute booking (I do recommend reserving ahead of time though) and I was warmly greeted by name upon arrival like an old friend and given the best table available. The waiter presented a tray of seafood options of the day to choose from, it was so fresh that the lobsters were still alive and moving on the platter.

All the staff were extremely helpful, friendly AND KNOWLEDGABLE, from the host to the pass waiters and they were constantly checking in after each course. My waiter even refrained from recommending a wine until he saw what food I ordered, so he could match accordingly.

I can't even comment on the superb location and view, just look at the photos, it speaks for itself.

Food= delish. I just got some oysters, scarlet prawn (carabineoros) and tiger prawn plus a yummy dessert that was the love child of a blackforest cake and pavlova.

A special thanks to Antonio and Felipe who made the evening unforgettable. I will be back for sure and recommend this place to everyone I know.

Can't wait to visit again next time I am in the Algarve.

PS- To address all of the negative reviews out there, the Algarve is notoriously busy in the summer season and I think any restaurant would struggle to keep up during these times. Be kind to your wait staff, everyone is trying their best and I would always recommend to call to confirm your reservations hotel or restaurant at least a day or two before arriving, this is standard practice in Portugal.
