Getting a hostel with public Bathrooms can sometimes be a little risky. This is an example of when you find a great one! We loved our stay. The gentleman who checked us in was so knowledgeable and was so helpful and easy to talk to. Just a great guy who helped with some recommendations. The room was spacious enough which was great. The bathrooms/showers were the thing we were really worried about. They were amazing! Clean and a lot of privacy in the showers which was great. You could easily undress in the private shower stall and there was even a hand sink so you can do the rest of your morning routine. Don't be dumb like us an forget soap though! Obviously since they're public there's no supplies in the shower. They have a bar and restaurant in the hostel which was awesome for a late night drink after traveling. If you have a hard time with sounds waking you up I'd recommend ear plugs as it got noisy when young traveller's were coming home from a night of fun. It didn't bother me hardly at all and my wife who's a light sleeper put in her earplugs and slept perfectly.

We stayed in the VW van for 4 nights and had a great time. We lived in a van before for 6 months so were used to the smaller space but the hotel itself was lovely, clean and the staff were attentive. We were worried about it being a bit loud considering the van is basically in an upstairs hallway but were pleasantly surprised a how well we slept the entire time. The bathrooms are downstairs and basically have to walk next to a restaurant to dive in to the toilets at night but if you can get over that, 100% worth staying here for a short trip. Very unique experience but couldn't fault anything unlike some other reviews on here!

A really cool and different place to stay. We stayed behind the small bookcase, no Anne Frank reference. Service was good and rooms were quirky. Did not eat there and the tram was about 5 minutes' walk away.

Very nice! Truthfully, and this may be part of their schtick, but it should be called “Hostel, Not Hotel.” Not that we minded at all, but everything is just a little more worn and dingy than the photos lead you to believe. Don’t misunderstood, we lived our stay, but it was very different than we were expecting. It’s also further from city center than it looks like on the map… it’s about 25-30minute tram commute… and longer in the rain 🌧, which seems to be frequent. The staff is incredible, the services they offer are great, and the inviting vibe is very nice. Special shout to Holly and to the Gentleman Kiwi whose name I did not get… extremely proud of their hard work and dedication to their guests. One note to travelers: if you need something, ask for it and wait to receive it or for the staff to come back with or without it. Perhaps something was lost in translation or culture… but regardless the effort was there, but the production of the request was comme ci, comme ça. 😉
All in all, very much recommend! Cheers!

Stayed in the campervan, it was an interesting way to spend a night in a hotel, service a bit slow at reception but probably because there wasn't many staff working as it was Christmas eve? Shower was clean enough as was my campervan, staff were friendly, didn't have food but beers from the bar, overall it was a good experience

It's in the name, this is not your average hotel! This place is very fun : It's a playful, creative, practical location and the staff (especially Aly) are super friendly and helpful. The hotel is designed to be social, you wouldn't spend all day in your room here, but you're in Amsterdam, so you shouldn't in the first place. We love Hotel Not Hotel and we love Kevin Bacon!

My partner and I stayed here three nights in the bookcase L room and we really enjoyed our stay! It’s probably closer to a hostel experience than a hotel, but we liked the ambiance and creativity of the place. We had no issues with noise at night. We only ate at Kevin Bacon for breakfast, but we wish we’d tried it for dinner! The front staff people were exceptionally nice. My partner lost something while there, and (while the item was never recovered) they were very kind in looking for it and offering to let us look in the room for it.

We stayed here for just one night, but it was a great experience. Think of this place as more of a creative hostal than a hotel and you won’t be let down.

The rooms are small, to be sure, but our was comfortable and clean.

The concept of this hotel is really unique and fun to be around.

The restaurant has excellent food and is open late.

Staff was super friendly!

This hotel is one of a kind and creative, instead of a chic hotel like many others, the rooms are very different from each other. There was a room like a dutch tram, an poison ivy, one that looks like the tall building just like New York and many more. The bar/restaurant from the hotel was very nice. We had a kevin no bacon and I really enjoyed it. They also have one in Rotterdam with the same concept but different kinds of rooms than here in Amsterdam. Love to go there again!

A fun and quirky hostel but more like a vibrant hotel. All rooms are different and hidden within the hostel. Also the bar downstairs is perfect. Will come back when in Amsterdam next.

A fun upgrade on a hostel with quirky rooms and great communal spaces. We stayed in the large bookcase room and really enjoyed it. The breakfast is large, and the Thai food for dinner is surprisingly good. All the staff are amazingly friendly and helpful.

A quirky and unique place to stay that's something in between a hostel and a hotel. One of a kind. All the rooms are different, so I can only speak of the room we stayed in - the Secret Bookcase XL. We stayed for four nights and even though the room was smaller than I'm used to in conventional hotels, it suited our needs. Spacious shower and bed, it was largely the floor space that could've been bigger.

Lovely lounge chairs in the common area upstairs and super friendly and helpful staff.

Location is quite practical in between Schiphol and downtown. We ate breakfast and dinners at various places nearby, all within walking or tram distance.

Room with bathroom and heater was nice for first night, then we were moved. Room without heater and shower was not so nice! Very claustrophobic. Communal showers looked good and water was hot. Unfortunately sealant was mouldy, long strands of hair in drain and sink!

I stayed with my boyfriend in the secret bookcase room s, the room was small but had everything I needed, under bed storage, hangers, make up mirror and fan. Maybe if you don't like small spaces then you wouldn't like this room.
Towels are provided and if you needed a hairdryer you just had to ask, free of charge. The hotel also had free wifi which was a bonus.
The showers and toilets were also clean so no complaints.
The bar drinks were nice with large variety, we didn't eat in the hotel.
The staff were also lovely would recommend.

The hostel for grown ups!
Shared bathroom was very nice and kept clean! The room was beautiful, little stuffy but thats cause there's no windows and it was 30 degrees! The staff was helpful and always more then happy to help. Amazing coffee shops near by!

Fun, quirky space in a quiet neighborhood. Beds were amazingly comfortable and the space is immaculate (even shared bathrooms were kept spotless). Rent a bike from the front desk and start your exploration from here.

A great place to have a short adventurous stay. Fun rooms with a twist. A low key minimalist approach to service that is gracious. Located near Lots of spots used by locals, but well away from the action in the old city

Everything were amazing! People were so friendly, so sympathetic… me and my wife loved the place. The best tip is to rent the bicycle from them and get to know the city! I love #amsterdam

Its the most unique hotel experience you will ever have. Each room is custom artfully designed! Heads up though, many have a shared common bathroom so if you want your own, request those rooms. Excellent staff and great food at the bar too!
