A landmark over 500 years old.It stands majestically by the river, like an old man watching history.

Nice building. At the light festival season from December till January very nice nightlight. Even more impressive with the view from the water

Beautiful fortification tower built in 1516. 100 years later the tower was no longer used for its original function and a turret with a clock was added by architect Henrick de Keyser.
The tower is called Malle Jaap which means "Dumb Jaap" in Dutch. It refers to the fact that the bell of the tower and the clock never worked in unison.

One week in May spent in a lovely basement flat, within100 meters from this tower was wonderful. And to see the beautifully lighted structure and listen to the soft hourly chimes at night is a memory not forgotten!

Bike city, too many people, can't really drive, pretty impossible to. People also either take trams or walk a lot. People are friendly when you ask questions. Good eating spots around the tower. I went and did canal tour around the city, pretty interesting. Amsterdam is beautiful. And lastly check out the red light district.

Very scenic old fort tower converted to clock tower

Great shopping values. The downtown next to the central train station is closed for traffic and houses thousands of high level shopping stores with great restaurants and play area for the kids. Almere is a short train ride from Amsterdam worth the trip!

We've been here the second time and I love it! There is really nothing to do, but the Montelbaanstoren is worth a visit merely for it's beauty.

The Montelbaanstoren is a tower on bank of the Oudeschans – a canal in Amsterdam. The original tower was built in 1516 as part of the Walls of Amsterdam for the purpose of defending the city and the harbour. The top half, designed by Hendrick de Keyser, was extended to its current, decorative form in 1606. Since then the tower has been 48m tall.

If you walk around Amsterdam step by step like me then you can see here and others abd take a brake with a coffe on bullewart cafes.

Nice place to go for an early morning walk or an afternoon chill. Would recommend to anyone with a sightseeing interest
