Mary Star of the Sea Church

If you are visiting Cancun, you have to make this a part of your trip! My wife and I were staying at a nearby resort on vacation and found this church when we were researching a place to attend mass. It was an unforgettable memory to experience mass in such a peaceful setting. I was worried that the setting would be a distraction but I found myself completely mesmerized. I would travel back to Cancun just to visit this parish again. You will not regret making the trip!

Absolutely breath-taking place to visit. There is an overwhelming sense of peace when you are there. Any visitor can feel an emotional gratitude for having stopped at this location. The entire church is under a straw hut and does not have any enclosed walls. Anyone can come and worship. It is common for taxis to be waiting outside. It was built on the side of a small cliff and you may admire gods beauty he has created while listening to inspirational sermons. There are steps where you may walk down to the water and sit the rocks or sit in the small sand area. The church takes donations and there is a small box onsite for you to do so if you like. There is a prayer wall where you can see hundreds of prayers written on silk ribbons. I highly recommend making this a stop on your vacation.

Mass for a small group, was in English at 930, can hear the waves, open with thatched roof.

You don't have to be religious to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of this place. The only thing happening when we walked through was someone working in the garden. I was deeply touched - Mary's beautiful energy is very tangible here. I almost can't believe it exists as it does. I don't want to use the word "magical" because it is, after all, a functioning Catholic church with a priest and mass and everything, but... regardless of what you believe, you'll know what I mean if you visit.

LOVED my experience during Mass at this church. Being able to worship the Lord, outdoors, with the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea for a $5 cab fare from my hotel was, priceless. Mass, of course, was entirely in Spanish, but the vibes and the people and the music and the fresh Caribbean made my Sunday obligation into "not to be missed" life experience.

What a wonderful way to celebrate God and community. We were able to be present during the commissioning of about 20 young people who were making a mission trip over to Isla Mujeres. We always go to these new churches expecting just to celebrate Mass. We always return knowing we've received way more than we've given.
