Viva Azteca by Wyndham, A Trademark All Inclusive Resort

We came and spent 5 nights to escape the cold. We were delighted with the friendly service, cleanliness of the resort and the service staff did an exceptional job taking care of my wife's dietary needs (Celiac) including a personal tour of the buffet with the chef to show her what was safe for her to eat.
We loved spending time on the beach, especially sunrise with a delicious, fresh Americano in hand.
We visited town on a couple occasions and enjoyed shopping and eating at local establishments.
Overall a good experience!

Traveling with family of nine, all adults. Staff were very attentive, friendly and polite. Check in and check out was a breeze. Staff were also very helpful with booking our transportation for sightseeing and shuttle back to airport. They also easily accommodated my parents with mobility issues to a ground level room so they didn’t have to climb the stairs daily. Food was great and lots to choose from. Location was in a gated neighborhood with a market for shopping right across the street. And also walking distance to city centre of playa. Highly recommend!

An amazing stay at this hotel. The staff was the best thing about the whole experience. They are helpful and always have a smile on their face. Big thanks to the staff at the bar, restaurants and cleaning. To mention some of the great staff: Ricardo (bar), Diego (Bar), Jesus (security), Brian (restaurant), Luis (bar). Beach is amazing and clean. I recommend this place.

I have been going to this resort since 2019 and have always enjoyed my stay. I have seen many improvements and changes that have made it exceptional, Many of their employees are great hosts and care about your stay. They try to make your stay as perfect as possible. I have noticed that the food at all restaurants has come up in quality and flavors. The rooms and public areas are clean and welcoming. There are always a few things I wish I had when I stay, better toiletries, more drawers in the rooms. There are a few outstanding individuals that have taken very good care of us and our needs, George - in the pool bar area -- He is exceptional. Alexander - Club Viva - work with us to make our stay exactly how we wanted it. Nexcy( spelling) Concierge -was outstanding on follow up and care of a problem we needed solved. She went above and beyond to change a reservation at the last minute for us. I have had the pleasure of observing the General Manager, Leon taking great care of this resort and it's guests. He appears to be very detailed on every little thing and also respected and liked by the employees. He is implementing new things, like a show out at the pool, which was absolutely sensational. This resort and it's great beach area is well worth a visit.

I spent 5 days with my family and we loved the hotel. The food is really good and the beach is beautiful. Very family friendly. The service goes above and beyond. We would definitely recommend it.

In January I was in this resort for 5 days it's an excellent place the rooms are very clean the food it was perfect. Also I have to say thank you to the Activity group they were very professional.

Incredible relaxing resort located in a gated community. Very safe only vacationers and resort workers allowed inside. Asteka is perfect for relaxing, music lightly playing and away from bedrooms, dance entertainment at night everyday while we were here. The access to the pool and ocean is perfect. Beautiful white sandy beach. Rooms cleaned everyday.
Met Mouadh from the entertainment team and our young pontoon boat driver very nice and friendly all the people working here. Highly recommend and will visit again 👍

Such a great hotel. Friendly staff. Some of the cleanest amenities I have ever seen at a hotel. The beach is beautiful. Entertainment is festive. Food is good! Just remember different cultures will not taste like your food back home, so kerp an open mind. Would recommend and will definitely return again. No issues communicatiing with staff and everyone is very helpful. Excellent wifi on the grounds. I am currently in my room on the 2nd floor and have no issues. I am still here, until Oct 9th and could not wait to share my experience.

We haven’t been to Viva Azteca since the pandemic shut down and renovations. They did a good job of updating the resort.
Check in – As members we don’t have to wait online in the lobby but can check in at the VIVA Club lounge. Ruben was very efficient and helped us book all our dinners at the Specialty restaurants. He also told us about the Members dinner on Monday night that was nice. Live music and a good meal.
Rooms – our family shared an apartment unit on the second floor overlooking the beach and ocean. Very nice view. The rooms have been redone and look great. The beds were comfortable, the pillows nice and soft and most important the A/C worked well. Had to raise the temperature because it got cold at night. The bathrooms are nicely equipped with a rain shower head and a handheld spray. There is a lighted make-up mirror and good towels. The rooms now have Nescafe coffee makers which make a nice cup of coffee in the morning. One big change the resort made (which I applaud) is to eliminate disposable water bottles and put a water carafe in each room and filtered water fillers in the hallways. The other big change was to replace the old door key card locks and use a chip in the wristbands to now open the doors. Seems like a small thing but not having to worry about bringing a key when you leave the room is very nice. The room had two beach towels (orange for members). You can replace them anytime you want at the towel stand on the beach and if you need more as a member, you just ask for them.
Beach – The beach is gorgeous. Wide with lots of soft sand. There was no seaweed whatsoever the week we were there. The sand goes well into the ocean so you’re not stepping on coral when you go into the water. The ocean was 84F. The seating area of the beach is well shaded by lots of tall palm trees and palapas. Getting a chair is no problem anytime so no reason to get up early to claim a seat unless you want the front row. As a member there is beach drink service Jorge did an amazing job making sure drinks came at regular intervals. After awhile he knew what we wanted and would bring them without asking.
Food and Bar – We found the food to be very good. The buffet had lots of options and changed daily. The bread and desserts were exceptional. As a member we could order a la carte menu for breakfast and lunch. Rene is a fantastic waiter and very friendly. Bernardo served us a few times and he was also excellent. We had delicious and well-presented meals from the menu (that changed every day). Members can book specialty restaurants every day, which we did. We ate at all the specialty restaurants except Viva Café. Our favorite was Xul-Ha. The sauces they had for the dishes were spicy but great. Our least favorite was Bamboo. We enjoyed the food, but the portions were small. Wine is available at all the restaurants. The specialty restaurants have a modest wine list for purchase. The house red wine is tough to drink. The white and Rose are much better.
The main bar has a member’s line which is very time saving near show time. As a member you can also select top brand liquor for your drinks. Every night there was a different special drink being offered in the courtyard and a couple nights there was live music during dinnertime.

SCUBA – We like to SCUBA dive and there is a dive shop right next to the towel hut. Mizra is very helpful and friendly. He really takes the time to make sure you understand what the program or dive is going to be. The dive boat picks up and drops off divers right in front of the resort.
Overall, we had a super vacation. Being a member certainly takes the experience to a higher level. If you’re not a member you can get the same experience by going to the VIVA club lounge and sitting through a 45-minute presentation. Even if you don’t join, they will give you a wrist band to let you access the member privileges.

Amazing hotel just got back,
Rooms were very nice had lots of room and from our balcony we could see the animals playing. The staff were very nice and friendly and there was entertainment crew aswell to take part in activities.
There were shows every night that were brilliant and on Saturday it was a circus show at the pool. We are definitely going again for my 16th birthday 🎂.
Lovely hotel

Spent a gorgeous 9 days here...location was amazing, close to good shopping. Always lots to do even for free! Food was amazing especially the restaurants, friendly staff and service. Only thing would be a plus is to have a beach bar...quite a walk from the beach to the pool bar for drinks and long wait. Otherwise family friendly, great nightly entertainment. Would definately go back again!

This is the best place to relax and vibe the weather is so nice and pretty. I love how there is all-inclusive food and drinks they are really fast they don’t take their sweet lovely time they make it quick. I definitely recommend for families we went with a family of four two adults two kids. Just the right amount of space you’ll need. The buffet is so nice there isn’t a huge selection but there is still and ton of food to choose from. There are night bands and parties which I love so much it’s relaxing and nice to enjoy. This place is not overwhelming at all. Great place to stay to relax and chill in a tropical environment. Love it so much. Thank you for your service ❤

First time we stayed here, it was very nice and we'll be back! Max the volleyball guy was fantastic with his "beeps" before each serve. The food was very good also, with a different theme each night. Don't bother with the speciality restaurant reservations, we managed to get in to all 3, despite them being "booked", only to discover there were only a few tables filled each night. Maybe staffing issues? The food at the speciality restaurants were ok, very fancy, took a long time (hours at each place) and not much food, so we always had to go to the buffet afterwards. I'd rather have skipped the speciality restaurants and spent that time on the beach or by the pool, but it was an ok experience. The shows are pretty good and entertaining too. The main beach is awesome, full of palm trees and chairs. The main palapa by the pool is huge and never more than a few minutes for a drink. On Mexican night, they have local vendors set up shops in the courtyard outside the buffet, the best shop is the guy that finger paints beautiful scenes onto tiles, we bought several of those. We also spent some time at Viva Maya, their sister property and can say that azteca is much better. Viva Maya allows smoking by pool and beach, very loud music by pool, beach not as good, although Maya buffet is very good.

This was My first vacation, and I have to say.. best place to stay in Playa del Carmen. The service is amazing, the staff is so friendly. I have to give tons of credit to the concierge Uriel. He went above ans beyond for My family and I to make sure we had the best trip possible. Him, and the amazing staff are one of the biggest reasons I will always recommend this place, ans come back in the future. Amazing ❤

We are a party of five ranging from 7yrs-70 and we have all enjoyed our stay at Viva Wyndams Azteca wonderful family hotel. Fabulous beach lots to entertain you or equally good if you just want to relax under the palm trees.Hotel staff are amazing they give off such a happy vibe they make you feel so welcome.

This is one of the best all inclusive hotels I’ve ever been to and the staff is always kind and willing to help.

We were a family of 4, two boys age 7 and 10. Viva Azteca was simply AMAZING in all categories. The hotel is immaculate, the staff attentive, the food fresh and varied and the beach beautiful. The pool is a good size for the kids, not sure it’s big enough for adults if you’re a pool kind of person, but me and my Husband are beach people and the beach did not disappoint.

Our room was spacious and very clean, we were on the ground floor facing the pool (room 2111). If the standard of cleanliness for daily room upkeep is as good as the cleaner we had, Cecilia, you won’t be disappointed. The beds are very comfortable, with high quality mattresses.

Some people on previous reviews have rated the pre booked restaurants over the buffet, but apart from the Mexican restaurant, we were actually more impressed with the freshness and variety of the buffet. There is an outside courtyard area outside the buffet which is beautiful. Again the staff are fantastic, but Daniel and Gerardo were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and you were waited on as if you were Royalty!

All in all, this hotel is of a high spec in all areas. You won’t be disappointed. The staff are an asset to this hotel. I hope the Management acknowledge them accordingly.

Hotel was very clean and staff was very friendly. Great beach in front of the hotel. Having the kids club (free kids care) on site was the biggest win for our family. Our 8 and 10 year old boys loved going there and we loved getting some alone time. You can drop them off just about any time from 9 AM to 10 PM. The buffet meals were decent and the restaurants were good. It was hard to get reservations for restaurants, but on multiple occasions we were able to get a reservation by checking in the afternoon after others had cancelled. Some of the daily activities on the schedule did not happen for inexplicable reasons, so check with front desk to make sure it's actually happening if you are planning your day around one. The resort is within the larger Playacar area which has guarded/controlled entry. Very safe location with a 3.5 mile loop that is good for walking, running and biking (free bike rental from resort). There are even a few Mayan ruins you can explore for free. We would certainly stay here again.

Viva Azteca was an absolutely amazing resort! Very clean, wonderful food choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone there was very professional and polite. Super close to the city center. Tons of activities to do at the resort. 10 out 10 I recommend. I definitely look forward to visiting again!
