The Reef Playacar

Just got back from vacation for 1 week at The Reef Playacar where we are members. Overall the everything went well with minimal frustrations. Rooms are clean and nice however at times we could hear outside noise and on occassion from the room next to us. I do want to comment on Marco in the main buffet dining room, he was our server in the evenings, middle dining area. He was the best server at the buffet, his service was quick and accurate. By the second day he knew what our drinks were and treated us like family.

One frustration we had was on day 1 and 2 we had repeated calls in the morning from the front desk member area waking us. After the first day I went to see what they wanted and they indicated they wanted to go over member welcome benefits. I told them I"d stop by when it worked out however they called again to all 3 of our rooms on the second day. We ended up unplugging our phones from the wall as we were tired of being woken up. We never went down to talk with them at that point. We also didn't want to be sold to again on this trip.

The rooms are a bit dated, but well kept.

The entire staff is super friendly, and all seemed happy to be at work (I interpret that to mean they are well treated)

Bety at the concierge desk was soo friendly and helpful.
By our second day there, the regular bartenders knew us by name and what we wanted to drink. Which is not important in the grand scheme but it's a cool touch that makes you feel like they care.

I prefer the adult only experience, but overall this is a nice resort and I would go back.

We have stayed at 2 of the 3 resorts in Playa Del Carmen and will continue to stay there. The staff is always friendly and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and enjoy your stay. The food at the buffet and specialty restaurants is exceptional!! The rooms are very nice and the staff does any amazing job keeping them clean!

The animation area is super fun, they always have a different show and I like that.
The experience is very nice, and the staff is very friendly, they are always with a smile, in addition to doing their best to help you during your stay, plus that on the second day the staff already recognises you.

We love it here!! Have stayed 2 times and are going back next month. Food options are good, and change daily. Staff is great.

We loved the service everyone was very helpful. We absolutely loved the service from Gustavo. He made us feel right at home. Only think I would change is the food, not authentic and was the same dishes everyday. Other than that our room was clean, service was perfect. Pool was a bit hot, I would like the pool bar to stay open a couple of hours later. The beach was a dirty, was not was I was expecting. But other than that perfect.

Service is wonderful. Perfect for families & adults alike. The beach here is perfect. It's kept very clean & beautiful!

Beautiful property and the service was wonderful.

The food was very much lacking and there wasn’t a big assortment. The bar kept on running out of different drinks.

Be careful on the stairs they get wet and slippery.

The food and service were fantastic. The location could not have been better. Just a great vacation.

Pros:

Amazing place, the ambiance and forest feel to it made it extremely romantic.
The staff was amazing and very approachable.
The room was clean and everything was in mint condition. The room was a also very big with a nice balcony

It is about 2-3 hours away from the pyramids.

It is about 20mins walking to 5th avenue.

Cons:

Was not impressed with the buffet food.
There is a lack of activities to do.

Great place to stay all day at beach and in the pools best option to live in a bumble in your vacation the personal and the service is always kind don’t forget go to the spa you deserve a massage

My husband and I spent eight wonderful days here. The hotel is in a beautiful environment, the food is acceptable. The bar mixes divinely delicious cocktails.

What was negative for us was that the minibar was not replenished daily and the wifi did not work. And on our terrace there was a very stinky smell of poop. The sunbeds could be a little more modern, and the harassing vendors on the beach also disturbed my relaxation.

We come here often and the service is top notch. So many great people here.
Fernando is #1, Jesus, Elsa, Humberto, William ,Victor,Michel from front desk and also Teresa from the spa all deserve a raise and awards. This place couldn't run without them. You make our afternoons fun and relaxing.
We use our day pass and vouchers to get food and drinks at the bars. Francisco, Antonio, Mario the barmen are always ready to help and pour a refreshing drink.
Big thanks to all the other employees we never met but smile and greet us as we pass by. Also the workers cleaning the beach daily, GRACIAS 😁

Hasta minana!!

Stayed here for a wedding. The hotel rooms are little bungalows that makes it seem like you are staying in a jungle. Once you walk towards the pool it opens up to the beach. The staff is extremely friendly and catering. The wedding was beautiful and very well setup on the beach. There is one worker names Michel that was extremely attentive during the entire wedding and made sure everything was perfect. He went above and beyond to make sure that the bride and groom had everything they needed. He was extremely professional and exactly the type of representation a hotel wants to host a wedding. Very very please with his service. Thank you for everything.

Our stay in Riviera Maya was made even more special because of The Reef Playacar. I visited with my toddler and she still calls it her home in Mexico. The staff were so homely, welcoming and friendly. I love how the villas are set in a jungle-like space. Service at the restaurant was great...we had an amazing experience! Thank you!!

Service here is phenomenal, they are friendly and treat you very kindly. The perfect location tucked in a gated community with a security checkpoint and a few feet away from the beach. The rooms are clean and spacious the issue was that the door kept sticking, the room key reader wouldn't read our card and you could hear the other people loud when they were in the hall. Other than hearing people coming in and out of their rooms at all hours of the day it was an amazing stay.

I had a great time using my neach club day pass. A little pricey if you don't drink and the buffet meals were nothing special.

They did a great job cleaning up the beach from all of the sargasso and was a beautiful place to relax.

Right on the beach with many pools and services available right there for you. Beautiful

Positive:

The food was very good
The beach was amazing
We are very happy with the service
The kids club had very nice activities
It was close to walk to the center
The entertainment was nice and not too mezzy or noisy
The following people were really amazing, they should get a raise: Odeth and Alejandro that served us at the Italian restaurant, Antonio at the Mexican restaurant, Humberto that helped us with the bags and maintenance, Alberto at the bar and Michelle at Kids Club.

Negative:

When you are at the room you here everything outside where the stairs are, you also hear from neighbouring rooms. Sometimes it felt like the room have walls of paper.
The wifi was not working most of the time in the room.
The tips are supposed to be included when you buy all-inclusive package. At the buffet it was quite clear tough that you don't get the same service if you don't tip. By saying that I still want to stress that we are happy with the service we got.
The safety box and phone in the room did not work.
