Mahekal Beach Resort

We spent the day here yesterday and got the day pass ! It was 100% worth ever peso 💯 1200 pesos per person and ALL of it can be used for food and drinks

We went to two of the restaurants and laid in the beach chairs, hammock and under the palapas all day

Food was amazing, service was great and the breakfast buffet was perfect

I went to Mahekal in November '23 and our group of 4 loved it. I felt like we had landed the jackpot of an affordable, amazing resort with beach access. The staff was always so kind and nice to talk to, everyone remembered us at every meal and bar. I didn't want to go to Cancun because I wanted a quieter experience to lounge and relax. The palapa garden view was awesome, we had hammocks, and we ate and drank well! One note is that we were content with our garden choice over beach as the beach is public access so it can get loud over there. My favorite meals were breakfast and nice dinners at the resort, the green juice was awesome. The bar will make you fresh mango margaritas! I will come back so soon.

We visited the Mahekal resort in a group of 3 young women and were blown away with our stay. From start to finish, this hotel delivered and we will be back.

Service: the staff here are amazing and so willing to cater to your every need. We did the all inclusive package and were constantly given drink refills and food extras without even asking. We felt so loved as we were greeted personally every day by staff.

Food/drink: for an all inclusive, the food was quite good and had all the basics covered. The breakfast buffet had an especially good selection. The main dinner restaurant, Fuego, is reservation only, but reservations can be easily made hours before dining on Open Table and with easy cancellation.

Rooms: our hut was very spacious for 3 women with 2 queens and a cot. We stayed in the garden area and it was quite loud with a beach club being right beside our hotel. It is also not very soundproof in the morning. This wasn’t a major concern for us but may be if you are traveling with young children.

Location: the location was fantastic being minutes walk from the main strip in Playa del Carmen. Despite being so close, the hotel felt very safe with security operating 24/7.

Pools/Beach: there were several pools and beach areas to choose from. We hopped around the resort and found loungers/extra towels free anytime of day. It was nice not to have to stress about snagging spots.

Overall, we loved the Mahekal Resort and can’t wait to return!

The resort is beautiful and the staff is so gracious. I have never experienced such amazing service! Enrique at the Las Olas restaurant was amazing, going above and beyond every time we saw him to ensure we were well taken care of. I highly recommend!

Wonderful!!! Really lovely place. Best resort we’ve been to. We got full package all inclusive but would recommend partial inclusive (breakfast included, plus either lunch or dinner) since there are a lot of nice and fun restaurants down the street and it is very walkable.

Went here for my honeymoon - we stayed in a hut right on the ocean and it was the best resort/experience I have had. I will definitely return and if you're looking for great oceanfront service, make sure you hit up Gilberto. He was great and gave 10/10 service!

I got a daypass there for 1200 pesos. In the daypass there is 1000 pesos worth of foods and drinks included. The resort is very beautiful and you can use all the pools, beds, restaurants and the beach. The personell at the reception was very kind. The food was absolutley amazing. I had one of the best burgers I ever had there:) As starter I can recommend the chicken nachos.

Summary: Our experience was above expectations and very enjoyable. We would definitely book this resort again or recommend it to others.

Location: Downtown Playa Del Carmen which is very nice. You can easily walk out from the resort and enjoy the overpriced food /trinkets hustled by the local vendors, or you can go a few blocks deeper into town and buy some of the best tacos of your life (And other things at more reasonable prices). We always felt very safe all over town both during the day and night.

Resort: The resort is a calm oasis which is kept manicured.
Lots of beautiful little paths to walk on. There is a bit of erosion on the beach which would have impacted huts directly on the beach (Don't book these as the beach is very busy and the beach hut locations are not very private). The beach is public and can get busy but this did not really impact us as we were always able to find nice sun loungers on the private section of the beach.

Food: We had the modified american meal plan (Breakfast+Dinner). The buffets were incredible with varying options and lots of mexican dishes. One of the best steaks I've had in my life was cooked in front of me by one of the workers on the buffet line - was not expecting that. We did a-la-carte one night at Fuego and it was also tasty but personally our preference was the buffet option. I would not recommend the all-inclusive to get all three meals - you then miss out on a lot of local variety you can purchase off-resort.

Negatives: Nothing is perfect. The one downside was that you have to wait to sign your bill at every meal (even though the cost is included in your package). A significant tip is expected for each meal ($10-$20). Probably a good idea to factor this into your budget.

I absolutely love this resort. Everyone is so welcoming and extremely friendly. They exude teamwork to ensure the guests have everything they need. We had a fabulous room on the beach with a perfect deck of course overlooking the ocean along with a mini pool ideal to dip in and cool down. The food was delicious and our day started with the staff knowing and anticipating what each in our group liked- my latte was delivered as was a side of bacon and more. Enrica and his team ensured our morning started off right. With several pools to choose from I loved the infinity pool where Antonio and Garbrial made sure our family was pampered. A special shout out to Antonio and Enrica for taking amazing care of all our needs. Then there is Guillermo who no matter where I was at the resort, made sure I was taking care of and happy. He ensured our visit to the Revive Spa was a 10. My masseuse was Suzanne and the other was Lilian. Absolutely
Fabulous, and the mgr is Veronica who clearly runs a fantastic team.So much so all of us went back twice. The restaurant Lunar is across the street and has amazing lobster. We also went to the Alux which is a 5 star restaurant inside a cave with stalagtights and stalagmites. This was a family getaway that made wonderful memories for each of us. I don’t want to forget Roberto who greeted us when we checked in and when we checked out. Ai highly recommend this resort and love their hospitality and staff. Thank you for a wonderful stay, you all made it so very special… merry Christmas

beachfront, relaxing, incredible, exquisite… Gilberto (Flash) & Ivan provided us with an elevated experience. We love Mahekal for all the right reasons. The resort is beyond gorgeous and very well maintained, it also happens to be on the best street in playa with a plethora of retaurants and shopping. Viva Mehekal!

Mahekal is a lovely beach resort in the town of Playa del Carmen. It is just the right size for a week-long stay - more intimate than a giant resort, but still a variety of options for restaurants, pools and activities. The tropical landscaping, clean pools, and exceptional service made for an easy escape from normal day-to-day life. Special recognition to Borenice and staff for keeping our room clean and stocked; Elizabeth for being so friendly and welcoming; and Pedro and Roberto for the wonderful service at meals. Roberto was exceptional and went above and beyond, sometimes anticipating our needs before we did (like finding an umbrella on a rainy night)! We stayed in an Oasis room, which we found to be a perfect size. A small fridge to keep drinking water cold would have been a nice addition. The resort is right in Playa del Carmen, so the beach is public, and it was certainly busy and entertaining all day long. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing beach, this is not it. There was also a bit of noise from the bars and clubs in town (our room was close to town). With the exception of Saturday night, the noise ended before we went to bed, so it was not much of an issue.

Yuriko, Litzian and Jesus at the spa were wonderful!!! A great relaxing experience with perfect massages.

Very quiet hotel once you're inside the gate - very lively outside but you hear 0 of that in the hotel compound.

The staff are fantastic - my child became sick during our stay and they did everything they can to get us to hospital and assist with local procedures and customs.

Can't praise the hotel enough - the rooms, location and food were great, especially breakfasts.

We absolutely loved our stay at Mahekal Beach Resort! It was the best resort I've ever experienced. From the moment of check in, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable (shouting out specifically the amazing Gilberto and our concierge Alan!). The resort itself was not that crowded. It felt private and personal, which was what my partner and I were searching for when choosing a place to stay. We did utilize the delicious restaurants and bars in the resort (Margs were amazing). However, we chose to not do the all-inclusive option to experience more of the local cuisine outside of the resort and we were not disappointed. Everything was walking distance and felt safe. I would ask the staff for their local recommendations for food and bars - you won't be misled! We will 100% be back - thank you for the amazing memories Mahekal!

We had our wedding at Mahekal Beach resort in January, and I could not be happier with our experience! The resort is beautiful and there were many options/spaces for the wedding events (we had 100 guests). The staff was extremely accommodating and the food was amazing, and we are still hearing from our guests about the wedding reception dinner! Any issues our guests had with their rooms were promptly addressed by the staff. The event coordinator, Laura, was so helpful and made sure everything ran smoothly for the rehearsal dinner and the entire wedding day. Alberto, Manuel and many other staff members provided phenomenal service to us and our guests the entire week there! We can't wait to go back!

still speachless. We are a family with two kids (11,14) from Germany and it took us a long time to find the right place for our holiday. So happy that we chose Mahekal. The surroundings, the beach, the rooms, pool, restaurant and-the staff— just perfect. Pedro, Luis, Eden, the chef Gonzales-just to name some-so friendly and great! The food was everyday something magic -also the breakfast. Just amazing. We love it here and we will definetly come back.

Pros: Amazing grounds, beautiful, awesome pools, excellent service from the waitstaff (Pedro was great) and from our concierge (shout out to Alan). Seriously a gorgeous hotel. Would give the staff 10 stars.

Cons: Hotel can’t control some of these but just keep in mind when you book that (1) the beach is public and gets quite busy. The hotel ropes off an area and has chairs, but just an FYI. For this reason, I would suggest avoiding ocean front rooms (ocean view is ok!); (2) We loved our room (an ocean view room) as it was close to the main pool and the beach, however since it’s was on the edge of the property, we had to deal with loud music from a club one night. The rooms in the middle of the resort probably don’t have this issue; (3) a stand alone palapa would be preferable if you want to avoid neighbor noise. With concrete walls and floors, noise travels and we had some noisy next door neighbors.

Overall we loved our stay. One of the most beautiful resorts we have stayed at with an awesome and super friendly staff.

Fabulous beachside resort in Playa del Carmen. Gorgeous landscaping and views, delicious food and exceptional service, rooms are comfortable and spacious with a private deck and hammocks. Requested fridge for room no TVs, but who needs them on vacation? Perfect place to unwind and relax

We were initially in Hut 5 which was impossible to sleep due to being beside a public access lane way to the beach where people came to party loudly at night. If booking beach front/view ensure to ask that it’s away from that access lane/road. Nothing the hotel can really do about this, being a public beach!

Staff moved us upon request but if in high season may not be possible!

Staff appear happy to have guests and are very friendly and chatty!

The beach is amazing !

Mahekal was a wonderful place to relax and unwind! It has great food (especially breakfast and lunch) and amazing choices of pools or beach to hang out by. The rooms are clean and simple. You’re also close to the action of Playa del Carmen if you want to get out and explore more! Everyone who works at Mahekal is very kind and friendly, especially Luis and Alberto, who were excellent. They went above and beyond to make our trip enjoyable. Thank you for everything! We hope to come back soon!
