The food was very good. They put a spin on traditional Mexican dishes. Everything we had was a little spicy (but not too hot). I would definitely go back for those duck Tacos.

This is hands down the best restaurant in Playa & absolutely amazing for Gluten free diners….even a great gluten free beer!! Owner/Head Chef won International Iron Chef competition in Toronto last year and when you taste the food, you’ll know why! We did 5 course menu and everything made your taste buds melt! Don’t miss out on this dining experience while you’re in Playa. Rated in 2023 Mexico Gastronomic top restaurants in Mexico! Also…super cold beers! Loved that!! Service also was above and beyond. Very passionate and knowledgeable servers.

Absolutely amazing food in the heart of playa del carmen. They have a 6 course and an 8 course tasting menu with and without alcohol. We did the 6 course menu and were treated to everything ranging from octopus and marlin to duck tacos and a cauliflower dish. Everything was delicious. The staff were nice and friendly and they had bilingual staff available if you need it. Highly recommend!

amazing! i’ve traveled all over the world and this restaurant is a gem. the food is so clean, the waiter said everything is sourced locally. we got the cauliflower (peanut based sauce), the fish tacos (al pastor style), the tortilla soup, the guac. i’m so picky when it comes to lemonade and the lemonade was sooooo good. roberto our waiter was great!

Well this place its amazing with its offerings of Mexican cuisine. We came back 2nd time because the service and the food were amazing. The guys working there are really good at what they are doing. We had shrimp ceviche in coco and lime and pork in white mole and plantain pure. 2nd time we have tuna ceviche and lamb in birria. The chocolate desert also very good.
And the mezcals, these guys know what are they talking about. We had different types of mezcals and they did a very nice presentation. So it’s a highly recommended place.

My husband and I enjoyed the tasting menu. Delicious food, great service, good music at a reasonable volume. Highly recommended.

Went here by accident. I was hungry Looking for some ceviche.

Oh my god this is the best ceviche I have had and playa. Heck Mexico. Fresh mahi-mahi perfect portion the little tacos with grilled mahi on the side and the sauce and the flavors. It was all in there. Could not believe the spices and flavors in the sauce, the thin slices of cucumber, etc.

The service was perfect. Love the atmosphere really cool. And the beer was cold.

I am going here every time I want ceviche

My partner and I came here on Valentine’s and it was by far the best meal we had during our visit to Playa. The cocktails and food were so delicious(I want to cry when I think about the smoked marlin), and the service was great. If we had more time we absolutely would have gone back to explore the rest of their menu! It definitely feels like a hidden gem and a must do if you’re visiting the area.

Deserving of all the accolades. Best cochinita pibil in town. The tamarind mezcal drink was amazing as was the pumpkin seed dip. We enjoyed every bite.

One of the best meals I have had in Mexico, this is coming from a Self proclaimed foodie.
I chose it off Google while walking on 5th avenue in Playa del Camen and was intrigued. I like restaurants off the main strips since for those to thrive the food must be good. At first it seemed odd the whole place is empty and my partner had doubts but I wanted to try it.

The staff was very kind and welcoming with great suggestions.
The shrimp cerviche is the signature dish and is so fresh and flavorful. The guacamole had the best roasted vegetables in it and the fish and duck tacos are all delicious. The prices were reasonable.

The chef actually opened the place after winning Iron Chef in Canada in 2014 and this place is listed as one of the top 230 restaurants in Mexico. It deserves to be packed all the time! Just walk a few steps more and avoid the tourist traps, you won’t be disappointed.

Probably the best food we had in Playa.
You will not find the usual tourist offer of “traditional “ Mexican dishes.
Also, incredible selection of hard to find Mezcal.
This is a place for foodies, with creative and technically perfect dishes based on ancient ingredients. Can’t wait to go back and try more dishes.

We recently visited Axiote and I was thoroughly impressed with the overall experience. To start, the house wine 'vino de la casa' was exceptional and the complimentary tostadas with four different salsas were a nice touch. The guacamole was also noteworthy, with a delicious combination of radish and creamy avocado. The service was top-notch, as is typical in Mexico, and the ambience was warm and welcoming with Peruvian-like flute music playing in the background.

When it came to the food, We ordered the local fish in green dressing with pumpkin seeds and ribs, both of which were cooked to perfection. The meat was soft and tender, with a unique mixture of flavors that was not overpowering. I appreciate how Axiote has taken the traditional flavors of Mexican cuisine and created a harmonious balance of taste and texture.

I highly recommend Axiote to anyone looking for a truly authentic Mexican dining experience. The menu is diverse, offering full range of tacos, soups, and other local dishes. Overall, it was a solid restaurant that I would definitely visit again.

Absolutely incredible experience, the waiter was so attentive and explained all the food choices to us. He let us have one each of their tacos, fish, lamb, duck and pork, each so different bursting with flavours. Best drinks we have had so far which were mezcal based cocktails. Must try this restraunt if in Playa Del Carmen.

Hands down, one of the best restaurants in Playa del Carmen. Their lunch special, a 3 course meal with either a beer or agua del dia, is absolutely amazing. All their food is delicious, and has a gourmet vibe to it. The decor is lovely and you feel like you're in a high end cuisine restaurant, until you get the check and realize that the value you receive for what you spend is absolutely insane. Service is excellent. I patron here regularly and would recommend 10/10 times.

Fantastic food and such friendly staff - also gives great recommendation which is the best for someone like me that doesn’t know the food well! It’s possible to order half portions, awesome for trying different items with limited stomach space.

In the end, the shop also offered me a free desert - total surprise and so nice :)

Things I tried:
- Chamoyanda (cocktail): fruity and savory, very creative and tasty combination
- shrimp cerviche: definitely my favorite, flavorful and refreshing
- bone marrow: it was good, glad I tried it
- tacos: I ordered 3 different ones. Really loved the pork belly
- dessert: loved it! Peach with white chocolate and some cheese bits and yellow guava. On the house!!!

Went to this restaurant after seeing them mentioned in the Michelin Guide. Wonderful food, presentation and service. Shareable portions so save your appetite!

Absolutely loved this place and would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for great food with a great atmosphere. We had the best pabil tacos, and lobster tacos, and oh the pumpkin dip too! The bartender/daytime waiter was fabulous.

Add this place to your favorites now. The food is so good and the menu changes so we actually ate here multiple times on our trip. The food was so good we forgot to take pics of most of it. The people here are also super knowledgable on Mexican cuisine and honor their cultural heritage even as they play with the flavors and presentation. The food was so good it took both of us back to different memories of our childhood and neither of us are Mexican.

Authentic Mexican food. Do not be shy to try the non standard tourist dishes, the food is delicious! Highly recommend the Verde salad, the bone marrow dish, the pumpkin enchiladas and the catch of the day. All their tacos had interesting flavors and depth. Everything comes out fresh and you can tell it's made from scratch. The cocktails are original and i recommend the hibiscus flavored water as well. Definite strong 5 star for an ordinal authentic restaurant amongst all the tourist traps. A meal for two with cocktails will run you about 500 pesos.

Started out with one of the best margarita I've ever had. Tortilla soup was incredible and full of flavors. The rock lobster was extremely fresh and cooked to perfection. A very notable evening and we will make sure to come back.
