In Playa Del Carmen you’ll find Coco’s Cabanas, a mini resort of sorts that also offers diners to come in without staying there overnight. Chas found this spot while vacationing here and loved the area so much that he rented an apartment nearby and flys down often from New Orleans to stay there.

We started with some Mezcalina’s and fresh house fried tortillas with salsa’s. The chipotle salsa and the avocado with cilantro were a nice change of pace from your normal salsa verde y rojo. The chips were clearly freshly fried and tasted great even without the salsa’s.

Our appetizers were a baked Camembert with fruit and tortillas, a sopa azteca, and fresh tuna tostadas. The Camembert was quite good as was the soup, but these tuna tostadas were one of the best appetizers I’ve ever eaten. Everything on them worked so well together and you could add a splash of soy sauce and it was even better! I’d order these as my meal at 90% of the spots in the world and leave happy!

Our entrees were a grilled pichana as well as a lobster pizza from the wood fired oven. I love cooking pichana and don’t see it often on menus when I go out so that was a nice treat. The temp was perfect for what we asked for and it was seasoned well. The potatoes that came with it had excellent flavor as well. I could take or leave the corn haha

When Chas told me he was eating pizza in Mexico with lobster on it I said “dude, what are you doing with your life?” He said just wait til you try it. He … was right. The lobster was delicious and buttery, the sauce had great flavor, and the cheese (which was not mozzarella) worked surprisingly well. I will say that I normally like my pizza crispy and this was missing that element…but the flavor more than made up for it.

Add on to all of this the fact that you’re surrounded by a beautiful pool, swings over the sand, a nice bar, and the owners dog is always nearby to say hi to haha. One of the easiest ones yet. Coco’s Cabanas in Playa Del Carmen - Didn’t Suck!

Beautiful Tropical oasis! (Read below if coming from the Beach) we did not stay here but definitely would. We looked at the rooms and they look beautiful. We have been here a few times over the years and it never disappoints. Sylvia the owner/host is so super nice and well spoken English. The drinks are awesome and the food is amazing. We love their wood/coal fired pizza! Can’t go wrong with any one of them. Coconut shrimp was amazing and I could go on and on. Again… this place is so cozy and romantic with the best tropical setting.
**Note: It’s not easy to find walking from the beach anymore as another complex has blocked their direct walking access which is really a bummer for them. Look for Mvngata Beach hotel …we walked straight through this place from the beach to the street with no problems. Go left down the street and left again at the next street, it’s a very short walk and so worth it. Also could try walking through Petite Lafite next door to Mvngata.

This is the best food you will ever have in Mexico.
The Host, Sylvia is the warmest, most amazing, just incredible.
The staff if available, careful and feels like family.

You have to try everything on the menu.
I wish I could say I had a favourite, but everything just exceeded our expectations.

One last thing…
THE BEST MARGARITAS YOU’LL EVER HAVE IN YOUR LIFE.
It’s a promise.

I have been visiting Cocos Cabanas a few times in the past few months from the USA.
I'm not even sure how to describe my satisfaction in every part of the services.
Well, the food is amazing, I cannot put it in words (everything on the menu)
The services are outstanding. You are really able to tell that everything is about the customers. They are very respectful, extremely friendly and on top of everything.
I love the atmosphere of the place; the units are quiet and totally designed for relaxing.
This is the place where you can really enjoy your time without any interruptions.
I love it and can't wait to go back!
(Everyone should visit this place even just for a dinner and drink)
Thank you so much for amazing time!!!!!!
See you soon Cocos :)

We found this lovely property on Airbnb. We arrived after dark in a rental car and were welcomed with a lovely drink an immediately sat by the beautiful pool for dinner. Signage on the highway was accurate as was the signage to the exact property-which is super helpful wen arriving after dark. The pizza is really good -authentically wood-fired and the staff were all very welcoming and super professional. We were personally greeted by Sylvia, the owner, at our dinner table. The rooms are lovely. Small thatched roof appearance, fun circular shower, very comfortable and clean smelling bed (the tropics can be musty but this place is super well kept.). Quiet mini-split AC. Quick and super cool for great sleeping. Breakfast was also tasty and the staff are very patient with our non-Spanish requests. I highly recommend.

We stayed at a nearby resort from April 20 to 26, 2023. We had heard about the amazing pizza that Cocos served so we decided to try it for lunch on April 24. From our resort (ORP) we walked down the beach. When we came to Cocos Cabanas sign, we walked by a pretty sketchy house until we reached a locked gate. From there, you have to ring a doorbell on the gate. An employee came out to meet us and unlocked the gate to guide us into the restaurant. We were 20 minutes early before they opened for lunch. We were treated very, very well. We were allowed to order drinks while we waited for staff to arrive. Beer and refreshments were cold. Salsa and chips were delivered to the table as an appetizer. We each ordered a pizza to see just how amazing they are. When they served the wood fired oven pizzas, they were hot, fresh and delicious. We were completely satisfied with the meal and overall dining experience. We probably would have ate there again had we not been staying at an all-inclusive resort. We were guided back out to the locked gate by the manager and he thanked us for visiting.

We loved every part of our stay at cocos Cabañas! The bungalows were private, they were air conditioned, so close to the beach, and the staff was incredible. Not to mention the amazing food as well! It was the perfect place to stay!! Cannot recommend enough!

The atmosphere, live music, menu, drinks, and lights were exquisite. This is a hotel, but also a very romantic, intimate dinner spot open to the public. We had an amazing time! It’s especially fun for birthdays! It was my boyfriend’s birthday and they went all out. The lights were dimmed, they placed a sombrero on his head, and had everyone singing a Mexican version of Happy Birthday. It was a truly special, fun moment. Thank you for the experience and the Tequila! We will be back.

Everything everyone says. Terrific food. Beautiful location. Friendly people. Good service. Ate here 5x in 2 weeks, and tried about 1/2 of the extensive menu.

Standouts are: the Aztec soup, ahi tuna, tostadas, shrimp in chipotle sauce, baked camembert, chile poblano, and the Braised Beef Roulade.

Drinks are also good. Pro tip: ask for a few slices of jalepeno in the Margarita.

The pizza is also good, if you're getting a bit tired of Mexican food.

The flan is to die for! Also good coffee.

We were staying at a nearby resort and had read good reviews about this place. We got tired of our resort food and decided to try Coco's. We were met by extremely pleasant staff. Marco was so attentive and funny. We enjoyed locally brewed beer and freshly made margaritas. The food was amazing. The best seafood we have had so far. I chose the catch of the day which was grouper and it was fried to a delicious crisp. My wife had their coconut shrimp which was accompanied by a delicious seafood alfredo fettuccine. We felt at home! They also had a rescue dog named Molly that we enjoyed petting and a couple of parakeets with babies that we enjoyed watching. The price of our meal was higher than we expected but it was too good to complain. I'd say give it try for sure if you want to enjoy a tasty meal with super friendly staff.

We were staying at a nearby resort and decided to venture off dinner. This place was pleasant surprise. We had the lobster pizza, which was outstanding. The servers were great and the owners introduced themselves to make sure everything was to our liking. They had a saxophone player as well that created a nice atmosphere. Definitely a great place to experience some local flavor!

Incredible food and perfect service. The servers didn't hover, but noticed when the bugs were bothering me and brought me bug repellant. The drinks were fabulous too. The atmosphere was fantastic, didn't even realise the music being played was a live saxophone player until I looked around. So glad I'm staying nearby as I'll be back again.
If you're lucky and come on the right night, Marley might join you for dinner.
Quiet, comfortable and homely.

Beautiful place somewhere on the far side of Playa del Carmen. it is very quiet there, but rather small. Although the latter contributes to the charms of the place. The hostess and all other hosts are very kind and will help you with any questions you have. The rooms (cabañas) are beautiful and makes you feel like you are in the jungle. But you still have all the luxury you need. The restaurant is also small, but the dishes are very delicious.

Had dinner here while staying at a nearby resort. The place is great. The pizza was outstanding and the atmosphere was a perfect break from the busy resort.
The owner's son even gave us a ride back to the resort as we had a hard time getting there even though it was within shouting distance.

It is absolutely worth the trip and can't recommend it enough. If you don't go you'll miss out on a great experience.

This is a place you can feel home away from home no matter how many miles away! The people are friendly. The restaurant service is awesome and food phenomenal. Sylvia is a very humble person to her guest and you can see everyone loves her! The rooms are private and cute! Would comeback in a heartbeat!not to mention the beach is steps away!

I really can't say enough about this place! I had such a great time. The owners Helmut and Sylvia were so wonderful and they had a really great staff. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. The food was so delicious that I really didn't want to eat anywhere else. My room was so cool and I really loved the atmosphere. This is exactly what I was looking for when I booked a room there. When I arrived, my towels were made into the shape of a swan. It was so beautiful there and I was able to relax and enjoy myself. I really liked that there were only 5 rooms, so it was like a private hideaway. I found it very interesting that people staying at all inclusive resorts came to eat at Cocos Cabanas when all of their meals were included at their hotels. I love everything about this place and would definitely recommend it to everyone I know. I would love to stay there again!

A great experience for those looking for a true Mexican beach experience (not the Hyatt!)
This boutique hotel is impeccable, so clean and every detail is exquisite.
Food is nothing short of AMAZING and we enjoyed the weekend entertainment...a saxophonist and some Xtabentun on ice...the perfect day!
