Senkei gave us a free upgrade to a traditional style family room called Chisen on the first floor and it was really spacious with a private onsen. We didn't get a good view of the river but it's alright. Everything was clean and the futons were really comfy. The public bath on the ground floor is really clean and they have this horse oil shampoo and body shampoo that's HELLA AWESOME like my hair and skin felt so moisturized and smooth after using it. You can actually buy it at the souvenir section at the lobby and I regret not buying it cause I couldn't find it anywhere else during the rest of my trip in Japan (T-T)

Breakfast and dinner was served on time. Food variety was great and the portions were so big most times we couldn't finish the food.. There's a wide variety of dishes as well but it may not suit your taste if you don't enjoy very traditional Japanese cooking.

Mmm hospitality is good, there's this nice granny who's really sweet and patient with explaining everything to us. The location is so so. I think most rooms don't really get a nice view of the river and mountains as they're blocked by other buildings but accessibility-wise, its a walkable distance from the train station so all gud.

All in all, would def recommend esp considering it is much more affordable that other ryokans I found in the area.

It's very unfortunate that two vastly different hotels share this pin.

We had an unforgettable time in the ryokan, basically the highlight of our 2-week trip. The staff was very welcoming on the check in. The 2 rooms had a beautiful design, they did look a bit old, but were perfectly clean and functional. A special thanks to the guy and the girl who brought us meals and made our beds, it was a pleasure to talk to them. The meals were delicious, but definitely unusual for us foreigners. The baths were not very big, but the view from the open bath was breathtaking in the fall. Little bridges that connect different buildings were a nice touch. The staff also had a decent English and helped us with planing our routes for exploring Hakone.

So, make sure you are booking the right hotel and have a great time!

Man this place was good. Need to go back to fully explore it. Got to try the 2 bath houses, they were fantastic. Tried as best I could to tolerate the water temperature. When we entered our room we were blown away, it was like the 70s all over again, I like these places that preserve their style. Was well looked after and the staff were so nice. I think there is a bus service which made things easier getting back to the station.
The location is also perfect, the river is on the other side and it is so serene, you can easily walk around aimlessly and enjoy the place.

Traditional rooms are very cozy, the staff is very friendly and always trying to make an effort to understand us. We had a small accident during our day trip and were late to the dinner time, but they were very accommodating and served the dinner when we arrived. We had our first onsen experience here and enjoyed it a lot. The food is amazing, even though some dishes are quite challenging (read as: different) for western visitors, we truly had a remarkable experience. We will definitely come back here if we travel back to Hakone in the future

This place blew us away! We stayed in the Yamagaso annex in the Chouji room. The area was great, a nice walk or bus ride from the station. Then the room, we were very impressed! Traditional style with the tatami mats. We had the half board which included breakfast and dinner. The amount and variety of food was spectacular! The staff were super friendly too, everyone we met was great! We used the private bath, public bath and the outdoor bath at night which were all very nice and relaxing. I'm not sure how this place could be any better for a relaxing few days in Hakone, would definitely come back every time!

Senkei was a lovely ryokan to enjoy Japanese hospitality! Compared to other Hakone ryokan it's an affordable choice and still offers the amenities expected in a resort town. The food was incredible and we enjoyed getting to eat in our room. The outdoor onsen is lovely and offers spectacular views. The only thing lacking at the outdoor onsen is body wash etc (this is on offer at the indoor onsen downstairs). Staff were lovely and patient with us. Highly recommend!

I have absolutely no complaints. The service was amazing and the old lady who served food was so sweet. The private onsen was clean and refreshing and using the rotenburo on a rainy night was just perfect.

Relaxation and tradition was at the forefront of our experience at Senkei.

The location is around 15mins walk from the train station. It has free shuttle service in the morning. On the day of check-out it's rain and early morning, they offer out of schedule shuttle for my family. How nice of them.

We stayed in the traditional Japanese room and they definitely worth it! Lots of space, balcony, terrace. Japanese traditional sweets and tea everyday. Breakfast it is definitely worth it to try at least once. I would not advise it everyday though. We had dinner once and it was also great food! Very typical. Only drawback is tha the outside spa is always for women in the evening and for man in the morning. I think it would be worth to swap the slots sometimes. Definitely reccomanded though. Please note that we had some friends in the normal hotel room and the room was exceptionally small and they did not enjoy it. Therefore, if you decide to go here spend the extra money for the traditional Japanese room.

This upscale ryokan (Japanese Inn) is located alongside the Yubataki Road across from the Sukumo River, about a 15 min walk from Hakone Yumoto train station or a short taxi ride.
It's a place for people seeking quiet respite. There are only a small number of rooms, all very nice and spacious (the ones on the 3rd floor even got a sunroom), so most of the time you use the large bath or the outside bath, you can use it alone or with max one or two other people.
The large bath (one each for women and men) are spacious and clean, but the highlight is the outside bath on the rooftop which faces the mountains surrounding Yumoto. The little Zen rock garden in front of it and the beautiful scenery lend it a superb atmosphere.
There's a little coffee shop at the street corner where you can get a nice, cheap breakfast.

We booked in the premium room Yamagaso, its literally a Ryokan. It has a kitchen, lounge, separate bathroom, makeup area and toilet. We had the privilege of the private Yamagaso onsen. The service was superb, we left our luggage at the reception because we rocked up early, when we checked in, our luggages were already in the room. The lady who was dressed in traditional kimono showed us to the private estate, she brought us tea and Japanese cake . Everything was really perfectly set up for us. The price is on the dear side but it was worth it since its for our honeymoon. Thank you 仙景 to be such a 仙景。In English the name of the hotel means the heavenly place.

Loved this place, hot tubs and massages made for a very relaxing couple of days. Sadly didn't get to see Mt Fuji, to cloudy but nice trip around using freedom pass.

Staying in the adjoining ryokans is pricy, but absolutely worth it. In-room service was incredible, the hot springs and baths were great, and the whole atmosphere was relaxing af. Do it.
