The staff were very friendly and super helpful. The rooms are beautiful and very thoughtful. As I walked around the Hotel it felt like magic in every section. The food was fantastic — each course was a work of art . I would highly recommend and I would love to visit again.

I had a really enjoyable time here. The public bath/onsen was great, especially the cold water tub. The massage by Kumiko was skillfully delicate, relaxing, and customised. There was also the opportunity to chat with her shortly after while having tea and biscuit, which was fun and insightful. The hotel staff were very attentive and helpful. The complimentary self-serve drink bar was also nice. The internal garden and herb garden was good. One thing I would have liked is self-service laundry facilities because the laundry service is... expensive. Another is, you will need to take public transport if you want to go to any major tourist location around there, but because this hotel is the attraction itself, it was not that big of a concern to me. Would highly recommend staying at Fujiya Hotel👍

One of the last few great classic hotels. The hotel was recently updated to improve earthquake protection but they did not loose any of the classic features of this very fine hotel, in fine polished glory. With its location and in house facilities it really is a must for those who appreciate the finer things (though not over priced I might add). The spa is something to experience, is a traditional thermal spa, so be ready to be naked. One thing that any great traveller must experience is the Japanese breakfast here. It is located in a separate building that used to be a royal retreat. Also offering exceptional evening dining there, if you book well in advance. A taste of the past, in the present. One for that list of places to experience.

We absolutely loved our stay at this quaint historical hotel. The food and service was excellent. Onsen water in private room bathtubs. Highly recommend for your stay in Hakone.

Simply incredible hotel, remarkable service and atmosphere direct from the 1920s.
The restaurant was impressive and both dinner and breakfast amongst the best I have ever had, if not the best.

This place is just extraordinary.

The building and gardens around it are captivating, beautiful, and serene. My room in the forest wing was just great. Large window, amazing bathroom, perfect temperature, and very quick and easy access to the Onsen on the 6th floor. Everything here is meticulous and thought through.

The interiors of the various buildings feel like they are from a classic film, and whoever curated the music throughout the different spaces really nailed the experience for me. I'm not sure why exactly, but I kept getting Wong Kar Wai vibes.

The Onsen feels modern and is just elegant in its simplicity. It's on the 6th floor and has an incredible birdseye view of all the buildings in the complex below.

There is a pool but I didn't visit it.

I got a massage while here from N. Kitano (hope I spelled that right), that was just heavenly. She was very communicative (actually, she spoke better English than anyone else I interacted with here) and knew exactly what she was doing. Highly recommend.

I had lunch at their restaurant Cascade when I arrived and thought it was my least favorite part of the experience. The food for the price was just average and the waitress forgot to bring me a glass of wine I had ordered.

On the other hand, I had breakfast at Kikka-so and was completely blown away. It was one of the best meals I've had on my trip to Japan so far.

If I were to do it all over again, I would stay for two nights. The first day, I would arrive from tokyo near the check-in and spend the entire day at the hotel, remembering to get a reservation at Kikka-so for dinner. The second day, I would wake and eat breakfast at kikka-so and then explore Hakone to my hearts content, returning to the hotel that evening to enjoy the time here once again.

Side note : the beer was just okay

Fujiya Hotel is currently at the top of my favorite hotel list! The hotel itself is just like a museum (and they literally have got exhibits inside) with over 140 years of history. Nice ambience and everything looks so classy.

We booked a corner room in the garden wing and it is literally my dream room (yes I have a bit of obsession with the nostalgic Japanese-Western style). Took so many pictures - I saw some local visitors literally brought professional cameras there. This proves how beautiful the hotel is!

The service is top-notch - every staff is super well-trained, speaks good English and make you feel welcomed.

We had (my birthday) dinner at Cascade. The place and the dishes are both amazing, food mostly tasted good. Then we also had a drink at Bar Victoria, chill but the drinks were alright. Had a fancy Western breakfast at The Fukiya the following morning.

They also have a public bath there - not huge but surely enough space to relax and the amenities are good too.

Absolutely beautiful spot, the architecture of the building reminded me of "Spirited away".

The service was excellent and we got a few beautiful gifts to bring back home.

The chocolates were delicious too! The selection contained dark chocolate ganache with Cointreau, Vietnamese coffee, dark chocolate with sake, white chocolate with pear puree, extra bitter ganache, white chocolate with red apple puree, white chocolate ganache with raspberry and Uji matcha ganache.

Do not miss staying at this hotel while in Japan, it was a highlight of our trip. We have never stayed in such a luxurious and gorgeous hotel. The staff were so friendly and we just loved the feel of the place. Just wandering through the garden and various accomodation buildings, taking time looking at the museum, and experiencing the beauty of the surroundings is worth the money. Our room was beautiful. The Onsen experience is superb and we also had massages at the spa which were well priced. We enjoyed cheap happy hour cocktails in the bar. Breakfast was a little underwhelming but the beauty of the dining room makes up for it.

Having tea and cake at Fujiya Hotel was a real treat, man. The vibe at this historic hotel was so chill, perfect for a laid-back tea session.

Their tea and cake options were seriously impressive, and the way they presented it was top-notch. And taste-wise, it was absolutely on point. Every bite of that cake was bursting with flavor, and it paired perfectly with the tea.

The staff were super friendly and made our visit unforgettable. It's a bummer we didn't get to see Mount Fuji, but the whole tea and cake experience at Fujiya Hotel was so enjoyable, I'm definitely down for a return visit.

Onsen is super good. Bed pillows could be bigger. Must try their restaurants although they're expensive

The onsen here is the best bathing experience I’ve ever had. The process from start to finish is first class; it was a truly tranquil and luxurious experience that I will never forget. I also had a shiatsu massage, which was 10/10 - it was perfect.
The hotel itself has an old worldly charm and understated luxury. It is very comfortable and kept immaculately.
The restaurant, Cascades, was a slight let down - the dining experience was fabulous, but the food was not worth the prices. Paying that much, we expected high quality cuisine - it was a bit dull. There are many restaurants nearby, so it didn’t dampen our time here.
Overall, I absolutely love Fujiya Hotel - the gardens are spectacular, every window or door you look out from has another incredible view, the town is lovely and the decor is fabulous. I would come back to this beautiful hotel!

The Fujiya continues to wonderfully capture the feel of a 1930’s hotel with the conveniences of a modern one. It is fantastic to see that all of the character has remained even after the complete renovation. I could hardly tell the difference from my stay in 2008, in a good way. The addition of the spa and onsen bath on the 6th floor of the Forrest Wing closed the biggest gap in the Fujiya’s service. The staff continue to be friendly and helpful, and the dining experience is unique. May it continue to be such a special place for many more years to come.

The only thing to be aware of is some rooms are initially rustic in their design, and so may have fewer outlets and lighting then a more modern style room.
